An odometer registers the number of miles traveled by counting the number of times a tire turns. Adam's odometer is set for 18" diameter tires, but he decided to put 16" diameter tires on his bike. After a long ride, Adam's odometer said that he traveled about 47 miles. how far did Adam really travel ?

selena has a 1 meter cube box filled with 1 centimeter cubes. 2.7% of these cubes are solid gold. selena wants to build cube that will hold these gold cubes. what size cube does she need to build ?

In my day and age (talking about 35 years ago), these maths questions might appear in Form 1 or 2 in secondary school.

I studied half my primary and highschool in Canada. This would be avout Canadian grade 9-10 (yes, also back in the 80's)

It really depends on your kid's class/math teacher. Problems at such level of difficulty appeared in my daughter's class in Year 4 or 5 IB (or Grade 3 or 4 US system or local system equivalent), but reappeared in later years when other teachers introduced these topics. In my daughter's class, her teacher even gave them hard problems in topics of Combination and Arrangement at Year 4, but of course, back then, no matter how hard I tried to explain to my daughter, she still did not get it. This is why sometimes I prefer local way of math teaching. It's more easy to follow.

我朋友個仔對數學好有興趣, 她自己買一些練習畀自己五年級個仔做, 本練習標籤是比4至8年級學生. 朋友想知究竟對於一個五年級小朋友做這些數學算是容易?普通? 定難?
