Which KG should go for if my daughter falls into cat 2 and is aim for esf primary or other Int'l

Esf will categorize the student into cat1-non Chinese speaking, cat2 Chinese speaking. Priority of interview will given according to the cat!

I don't know what's the exact priority... I can only share my own case to you. I'm Cat 2, we have been invited to attend the "play vist" at Tsing Yi Campus today.
If you ESF primary is your target, i will suggest you to get a place from K first.

BBKate, really depends on how badly you aim for ESF primary or RC/DC! I would suggest you go for ESF kinder if the above 3 are your top target, otherwise, don't think much difference in going either Anfield or ESF! I had exactly the same choice you got last year and I finally went for ESF just because I think a happier school suits my girl! But I still worry about primary especially knowing how low the ratio the ESF K2 students got interview from ESF primary! Anfield you still get a backup as most likely they will reserve a place in their primary, but not the case for ESF! If you go for ESF, what I suggest is you should prepare to apply as much backup as possible as there is nearly no way back to local stream after 2 years in ESF and without a good backup plan, you will be in a very risky position! And even RC offers interview to most ESF kids, the chance of getting in is not as high as they intake quite some local kinder kids with great English level(which is super common now)! Good luck!!

Hi, I'm planning to enroll my boy in both ESF kindergarten and anfield too... If I really go to ESF kindergarten, what other backup plans can I have for the primary school? I'm really worried now that kindergarten doesn't have advantage anymore... :;pppp:

Thanks for your info. My daughter can speak fluent English and I believe that if interview is given, there shouldn't be any problem; however, I heard from this year K2 parents that no one in Cat 2 was given a chance for interview at SJS. Hope that chance for RC is better...

I think ESF has decided (remember receiving their newsletter this year) abolishing the Cat1/Cat2 system.

Although ESF will abolish the Cat 1/2 system for year 13-14 application, I doubt what sort of assessment will be used to decide interview opportunity. There is no clear definition.

The interview for sure is to access The child's English level and ability to communicate and understand; however, not every applicant has a chance to interview. without Cat1/2 system, everyone should be have equal chance, except those have priorities, like sibling, child of ESF teacher & etc. and my question is what kind of judgement ESF will be used to decide the applicant's interview opportunity ?

I am not quite sure but perhaps they may maintain the current system. that means the computer may assign a number for each applicant and the first 100 (or 200) may have interview chance.

Thanks for ur comment. As one of my fd was being a TA at SJS, she said some students even dun know how to write their chinese names. I aim at find an IS at shatin for my boy, RC & SJS will be my choices, so I'm going to review the comments fr different sources for these 2 schools.
