My question: what is new since 20 August 2012?

From http://www.esf.edu.hk/our-school ... licy-and-procedures

Effective from 20 August 2012, interview priority is given to:

1. Children of ESF teachers;
2. Siblings of children already attending an ESF school.

then to:

Category One

Children who speak English as a first or alternative language but do not speak Cantonese and/or read and write Chinese characters.

Category Two

Children who can access the local system but who also meet ESF's entrance requirements.

Within each category priority for interview will be given to students who:

1. are attending an ESF Educational Services Ltd Kindergarten (for Year One only)*;
2. are former students returning from a period overseas;
3. have a parent who is a full-time employee of ESF;
4. are the children of former ESF students.

Doesn't seem any different from what it has always been.

Now siblings are of the 2nd highest priority (after ESF teachers). Good news to a lot of families.

Hmm, whats new? Siblings have always enjoyed priority.

In the past, all Cat 1 applicants got higher priority than Cat 2 siblings. Now, all siblings, no matter in Cat 1 or 2, are placed in front of Cat 1 applicants.

Lets say ...

A = Sibling of current Cat 1 student
B = General Cat 1 applicant
C = Sibling of current Cat 2 student
D = General Cat 2 applicant

So the previous order of priority was A > B > C > D

and the new order is A > C > B > D, is that right?

Be more precise, the order should be A+C > B > D.

True, they did not elaborate on whether they will treat all siblings the same or further divide this group into siblings of Cat 1 and Cat 2 students.

There is no genuine need to categorize the siblings because places for them are sufficient for sure.

Just wondering if my elder daughter is current attending ESF SCHOOL (A) and I want to apply ESF SCHOOL (B) for my younger son. In this case,my younger son can still enjoy the siblings priority or not?

It is true that many siblings have not been given a chance for interview, at least in the first round, this year. I guess that is the reason for the change of admission policy.

The answer is "NO". They are two different queues.

I emailed ESF Admission Office yesterday, they confirm that siblings of PIS students will have priority at that PIS only. And siblings of students in ESF schools will only have priority in ESF schools, not PIS (unless they have other priorities, e.g. from ESF kindergarten etc.)
