小女九月即將入讀wkf, 但本身英語及普通話程度普通, 唔知跟唔跟得上? 另外, 不知道入學前有何需要準備? 家長可分享一下. thanks

放心, 我小朋友本是普通英普, 現在二年級, 都跟上.
入學前, 嘗試比多些普通話兒歌, 故事比佢多接觸,便可.

Try to have her to start more reading, then wirte up some topics about her reading.  Simply 5-10 simple sentence as a start.

For G1, there is no copying or sentence writing English homework, kids will start writing up their Journals from the 2 month of school.  (dictation only once every 1 or 2months)

Teacher expect simple writing about your friend or your family or more descriptive writing as a start.

They will then teaching more pattern in writing to lengthen and complex the journals.

Reading is definitely a must in WKF fr beeter English result.

Strengthen the phonic and spelling skills of course is helpful.

For Chinese, WKF start the mandarin teaching right from the beginning, try to let your girl watch some Mandrin program/cartoon for listening skills.  Basic words recognizing is ok, Chinese Teacher does not have very high expectation on their standard in G1 from the school's perspective compare to the traditional school.

Not to worry, kids adapt to new environment very fast.

My son can really talk to you in fluent mandarin from zero when he just started.  But of course, he still can only write simple sentence and not much chinese characters till now.

Also, G1 allow kids to write out the chinese character in PinYin format (that is English with the symbols).  It is so funny that you will see english writing on chinese homewrok, but it is the learning path.

U said ur son start from zero mandarin， does it mean he doesnt understand mandarin when he startes at p1？

Yes, my son only have very little understanding about mandarin when he was in Kindergarten, even he was taught... but not really use it.

Instead, he can at least handle the routine communication in school after about 3 months school.

Don't worry, kids blend in new environment very quickly.
