若要到英聯邦國家升學，可試，據聞在美國認受性不大
但據聞考出來分數要高才有明顯用處(想入名牌大學應至少7.5-8.0?)<-請高手修正
另外坊間亦有補習社/補習天王有專門的IELTS補習班，但我想用處只限writing / summary個part，因為同香港公開試既writing 唔同style

First, I am not the master......

IELTS - normally a minimum overall grade of 7.0, usually with 7.0 in each elementhttp://www.study.cam.ac.uk/undergraduate/international/requirements.html

That's the minimum requirement of LSE and Cambridge. Overall, 7.5 is the min., 8 is not uncommon. The most difficult part is "7.0 in each element" according to LSE.

You better check the target universities' language requirements for international students...... TOFEL and IELTS are very common internationally.

Thanks! Seems most talk about IELTS but not TOFEL nowadays

Why not take both IELTS and TOFEL? You can use the higher result to apply for overseas universities. Only few universities (such as Cambridge) would not accept TOFEL.

IELTS 對中學課程有無幫助?? 如果有是否讀左佢會好d!! 聽聞係成績高唔駛讀, 直接考就可以拿到7.0 或以上的grade!! 成績一般才有幫忙!!

Be frank, I am not sure how useful for secondary students......
My boy may just go straight for the test, his senior generally 7-8, and aim for CUHK Global Business, IELTS is a must for exchange programa.

我參加過British Council 的IELTS預備班（10課），可能我離開學校太耐，就覺得呢D班好有用。咁啱教我們的老師是前IELTS改卷員，所以給了很多取分的tips我們。其他老師是否一樣就唔知啦。

When did you take PET? At the same year as FCE? Did you take the PET or PET for School?
Anyway,there is nothing "reasonable" in this case. It is already abnormal for kids to take FCE in primary years. Actually, the earliest I know of anyone taking FCE is in P4 and she did not do that well also.

There may be various reasons. Maybe the kid is not in shape during the exam period. Maybe the topics tested in FCE is too mature for the kid (keep in mind that FCE is originally designed for students of around 15/16). Maybe even he/she is tired of the gap between what is taught in school & what is learnt for advanced exam.

Actually I know of case very similar to yours. The girl of my friend in church took PET in Nov 2009 & got 94. In Dec 2010 she took FCE & got 77. Her dad sat down & discussed with her to clear up her frustration. Treat it as a growth experience for parent/child. Don't put undue pressure on the kid.
