首先要睇吓自己比唔比得起HK$500,000. 如果比得起, 就要考慮有無其他好D學校可以選擇. 如果無, 就焗住要買. 當然如果認為這學校完全唔值, 就另計

As far as I know, a number of IS has debentures that cost exactly HK$500,000.
1. HKIS has non-interest bearing debentures of HK$500,000 each, but the school website said "debentures are currently fully subscribed".
2. Kellet School's Foundation Sibling Debentures and Depreciating Corporate Debentures (both depreciating over 8 years to zero) are HK$500,000 each.
3. Singapore International School's Corporate Debentures are HK$500,000 each.

估唔到家吓D學校除咗鬥成績好, 鬥長waiting lists之外, 仲要鬥貴, 死未?

Saying it honestly, If that is a good school, and suitable much for my children, and as I could afford that, I will.
You can get it back as the children finish school.
I don't see it as "強逼", every school has their own rules and policy. They need this such money for running the school, and as one of the school, some responsibilty should take ( I think so for myself) to run the school that you are in.
In another words, no people will say "putting on school uniform is a Force to".

my friend also bought a few million worth of debentures from ISF, and her son got in the school - not sure if they're "related"
...but she said ISF's debentures have been appreciating in value?? again I don't really know the truth!

As I learnt, the buyer of debentures of ISF should know the seller (old parents of ISF) and the profit would be shared by the seller and the school. It's been an advantage to get into if you hold the debenture of the school. That’s the reason their value would be easily appreciated.
But not all IS’ debentures can buy in free market.

Think first batch of ISF debenture from some years back was about HK$200k. It then keeps going higher and the latest batch is HK$4.5 mil. Think market value is a bit higher from HK$4.5 mil to HK$4.8 mil.
