小朋友好快適應架﹐唔洗擔心。

If you child is going abroad, choose KV, you will not regret it.
Besides good Chinese & Maths, they teach kids good discipline & learning habits, it will lay a good foundation for further studies.
I've a niece & a newphew who both attended KV, and they're doing outstandingly in UK.
My boys are in KV and we plan for them to study in UK during the secondary years & beyond.
English is easy to learn, kids pick it up easily. My sister went to the UK at 7 yrs old, she hardly knows any Chinese but her English is better than her boss (natives)
A NET cannot perform miracles, you'll have to take your child to extra lessons or speak to them in English at home.

Only 9 months? ha ha, then you have plenty of time to train him.
You've connection? Well OK, if you feel you need it. Otherwise try your very best, you'll be proud of yourself. Kids are good learners if adult is willing to spend time on them.
Good luck.

I believed both of KV and Kingston are good schools, but quite different kinds of kindergarten. Thanks all mama to share your ideas, so I got a lot from here. I have a son just finished pre-nursery school and now going into K1 in coming school year in Kingston, also have friend's kids studying in KV. Therefore I would like to take this opportunity to share my thoughts to you.
1. KV conducted in Cantonese with cheaper school fee, which is around $3,000 Vs. Kingston conducted in Mandarin and English (2 native speaking teachers in one class) with school fee around $7,500.
2. KV is strong in teaching Chinese and Math (from comments of what I heard & read) Vs. Kingston is very strong in language (after finished pre-nursery in Kingston, with good pronunciation, my son can understand and communicate well with native speakers of Mandarin and English, in fact, we are using Cantonese at home)
3. KV big class Vs. Kingston small class (2:16 max, 1 Eng & 1 Mandarin teacher)
4. KV is using local teaching method Vs. Kingston is using IB, which is a worldwide education program focusing on critical thinking.
5. KV not many activities for kids Vs Kingston has many hands-on learning activties
6. KV offers interview for every applicant Vs Kingston NOT
Most parents know KV well coz' many of their children go to famous local primary school, while most of the Kingston parents tend to choose International school for their kids after kindergarten, but I also know some kids go to DBS, Maryknoll, etc...
if you could afford and believe 0-6 year is the golden opportunity for children to learn language, you may consider Kingston as you don't need to spend extra money for them in attending addition Eng or Mandarin class outside. Students in Kingston are trained to be more confident and more willing to express themselves even in pre-nursery. About Math, I know the graduates from KV should be able to solve addition and subtraction questions with double digits. Counting is about understanding, different from learning language, so I think kids can be trained about counting at home. Apart from teaching method, Kingston teachers are very caring and professional on the growth of kids. They know well of the behavior of different stage of kids, so handle them well. But of course, it's all about your choice.

I really do think that it depends how old the child goes to the UK/ US. I personally went there when I was 9 and find it no problems to catch up (bear in mind I'm not the brightest).
Its always good for them to learn as much chinese now if they're really going to go aboard.
I agree that international will be more fun for the child but it'll be nice to give them some discipline at a small age.
作者: OxfordTree 時間: 12-7-10 19:33
Depends on... what do you want your children to be?
I think it's not only talking "fun" or less pressure in international school, it's about the training of critical thinking, and train them to be an active and well-rounded learner, (學習模式和思維模式). Children can receive tons of information or knowledge not only from school, but also from their daily life from different channels. To me, in the sense of early education for children, feeding information from school is not as important as training of "thinking". No doubt, both of family and school are playing important role in "thinking training".
As saw and heard from recent news, IB curriculum will be a trend. DBS secondary school started IB curriculum in F.4 last year but only 60 quotas among 240 students. Keen competition for IB quotas is expected since many IB狀元 were born this year.
