GIPW 你好! 因為睇咗之前d post,知道你小朋友喺度讀,所以想請教一下,小兒個性較好動,專注力一般,中文程度較英文好,學習態度較飄忽亦不太主動,多數睇心情,kinder老師話讀蘇小可能要半個學期適應,如讀活動教學小兒會較開心,現有蘇小,聖類斯,陸慶濤(這間是最近通知有位),爸爸一直很喜歡蘇小,三文兩語,程度高夠傳統,但作為媽媽的我則怕小兒不受谷,亦怕他的飄忽而影響成績,所以較偏向選聖類斯,因為男孩較遲熟,而且男校老師應該會更懂得教導男生,而陸慶濤則好像課程比前兩間淺,半活動教學但有一條龍英中,婆婆覺得適合小兒個性,由於第一次為小朋友選小學,很怕選錯不適合他的學校,又想盡快放學位給有需要的家長,所以希望GIPW你能給點寶貴意見,萬分感激!!

因為這星期才回港，所以現在才回覆你。

KCS的是一個非常好的學校，除了語言，它也具有較高的學術水平。有人告訴我的父母從今年P6（結果尚未證實），相當多的學生沒有到一些很不錯的中學。東區確實有一些非常好的中學, 所以KCS 在這兒會有一些優勝。不過P5 & P6 的TSA試，十分重要。
KCS P1-P3，工課壓力不大，大部份時間在學校完成大半而他們都十分鐘意返學。

一般男孩的集中力是較女子差的所以不用太担心。但如以你的情況、St Lious可能是一個很好的選擇
1）它是一個男孩的學校，讓教師將有經驗教導男孩。
2）一條龍及歷史悠久及一條龍，家長壓力會小些。
不那麼擔心英語，學習英語比中文容易。

至於LHT, 校舍舊 is one of the concern. But TKO is a new area so there is less 英中。 Compare with St Lious, I think I will like St Lious better.

GIPW 真是很感謝你的回覆, 你說今年蘇浙P6相當多的學生沒有到一些很不錯的中學, 意思是今年派位結果較差嗎? 另外蘇浙在品德培育方面OK嗎? 是不是很多抄寫和背誦? 如讀聖類斯小兒要每朝6:25上車7:15到校, 放學3:15開車約4:30才回家, 你認為值得嗎? 麻煩你再給我一點意見,謝謝。

Sorry 打錯字, 應該是考到不錯的中學.

蘇浙的品德是很好( 其實我想用非常好 ). 同學們, 主要是家長們都對自己的小孩有一定的要求和管教, 所以我見到的都很乖巧。
一年有三測三考. 有中文背默. 抄寫不太多但有很多小測(辭言）。我通常不太管他小測, 讓他自己來. 我覺得可以讓你小孩試一試背默書, 幾行字便okay. 起碼可以考一考他背書的能力

我覺得小朋友應該最少睡 9-10 小時, 如6 時起床那8-9點就要睡, 因為小朋友身體及腦部正在發展, 我個人是較認同小朋友希要在小時侯建立一個強壯的身體 ( English: build your body ).

如果你是在職業媽媽, 時間安排方面可能有些煩, 或你家人可以幫忙.

品德非常好真是太好了,因為很多老師也說小兒很易受人影響,如果遇到曳嘅好快就學咗,你話試下背幾句呢個方法都唔錯,等我呢幾日試一試,真係唔該晒你呀!! 其實我都想佢上到小學仲可以瞓到9-10個鐘,亦都同意你所講嘅build your body,但係現今嘅教育制度令到好多家長同小朋友都身心俱疲。

You are most welcome. 希望幫到手。 I always remind myself not to be 怪獸家長. At young stage is to cultivate their attitude and responsibility. 小時叻不代表大個一定叻, 但對事( like 讀書) 有個正確的態度是重要的. 自小要灌輸

Absolutely agree !! 你一定係一個好媽媽,其實我都有成日同阿仔洗腦,叫佢上堂要專心,做功課同温習要認真,呢d係你自己嘅責任.......,但係每日剩係叫佢埋位做功課都要差唔多一個鐘,寫唔夠兩筆,真係兩筆又口水多過茶講嘢講唔停,唉......一温習又成日坐唔定,又唔主動,一個星期都會有一,兩日好d嘅,平時唔使讀書果陣又好乖,所以先驚如果讀蘇小同佢跟功課温習時會比佢激死!!

男孩通常都是心散. 一些讀書心得, 試試行不行的通

1）prepare a time, a quite environment
2) ask him does he know how to write + how much time needed for writing one line
3) set a reasonable time for him, not too rush against time as we need neat writing as well.
4) tell him if he finish within the time line then he saved some time for watching TV or playing time. Maybe ice cream is a good reward
5) be there with him - remember to keep silent and not response to his question. Remind him of the time.

Tell him you are here to help him. Try this and let me know if this works.

Hi, I was attracted to this conversation and I hope you don't mind I step in to ask a few questions.

Hi GIPW, my daughter is accepted at KCS, would like to seek some answers on below questions, would be very grateful if you could share some insight. Many thanks

1. I personally is not good at reading or writing Chinese, my husband says my level of Chinese is around K3.  Does your kid require a lot of help from you with their homework?

2. What is the English standard like at KCS?  I read from other comments that they teach one level higher. Want to find out more on sort of things do they start to teach at P1, does it include sentence structuring, grammers etc. Is it necessary to send the child for extra classes outside of school?

3. The exams, do you need to spend a lot of time with your child to revise on each exam?

4. Does the school have a system where if  a child does not get a certain pass mark, they have to repeat the entire year?

Hi Chuenma

To answer your question :
1) it is all depends on how willing are you to let go on their homework. If you allow to make mistakes and let the teachers to correct them, then it is fine.  I think your child might need your help in the Chinese dictation. Sometimes doing sentence.
Apart from this, Maths and General Studies are all in Chinese so you could not ignore these subjects.

Most of the homework could be done in school already. So I do not have much worried on this.

2) yup, one level higher for English, they will start using Book 2. But this doesn't mean it is lots more harder. If you have worries just simply buy a P1 exercise book and let your child do some of the exercise then they will be fine.

If you talk to your child in English, no extra class is needed. English is just about grammar , conversation and writing idea.

3). As for exam, I did not spent a lot of time on this. I am a working mom, I will talke 2 half days off to help he through. Well sometimes I think not much I have helped her but just let her know that I am there to be with her during the exam.

4) I seldom heard others repeat but know some parents willingly let their child repeat as their child is 'small child' and want their child to build a solid foundation.

GPIW,

1. Would like to know if KCS they have class or activity in pm?
2. English lesson is taught by net teacher?
3. 3 tests and 3 exams in whole year, will you need to spend a lot of time to help your child for review. Test/exam before or after long holiday

Hi Minnielam

1) After lunch, 2activities + 2 classes.  If no activities, they will stay in the classroom and finish the homework.

2) Yes.  P1 oral by net teacher and English by Chinese teacher.  Starting from P2 both oral and English grammar are taught by net teacher.

3) exam before the long holiday ( that is what I like the most).  The children are so used to tests and exams, to them are like 吃生菜. To the parents, I helped out a bit in the dictations and some Chinese language revision. I sometimes missed out the test dates and just find out they are doing fine.

Up to now I still do not think the pressure of studying is too much. Could update you later if I go higher level.

If both net and local teachers are teaching in P1, will they have more lesson on English? Each day around 45 mins same as kindergarten or more time each day?

In the website, we cannot find update information about activities, can you list some for our reference?

5x2 sessions of English lesson and 2 oral session per week

For activities. I cannot really remember. But not something very impressive just 人有我有. Only the musical instrument activities available starting from P2。

Hi GIPW,
My son is accepted by KCS. After the lucky draw, St. Peter offered a P1 school place for my son. How do you compare KCS with St. Peter if school fee is not a concern. St. Peter is closer to where we live.

My understanding that St Peter is a very good school in Central. The allocation is good too. In KCS, the Mandarin level is higher than St Peter but you could let him study outside for school fee that you save.

I think the main thing you might need to consider is the secondary school. Seems like KCS has a better result in going to the 'English' secondary school. Perhaps there is more 'English" secondary school in Eastern district.

But half day class is very tempting. Not sure if you are full time mum, or you will arrange some other activities to your son, if so then half day is a good choice too.

I do not think I can comment much on 般咸道官立 as I have not much understanding. But from the the secondary alloment, if your kids is a boy, high chance to get into King Colleague - then this will be a good choice
