As topic. Any comments?
今日收倒學校回覆, 佢地現在不會收Year 10, 因囡囡現年13, 想在今年或出年入boarding.
已問過幾間, 都是入waiting 或唔入住, 我知道Wymondham 每年summer 都會黎HK interview 學生
有人知道詳情嗎? 到時先會收Year 10?

one has replied us no boarding facilities provided for girls.
6 options left..

其實以2xxx間排ranking, 6xx都唔算太差，關鍵係小女成績好一般，與其在香港坐以待斃，不如岀國explore 吓。

There are 4,000 secondary shools in UK. More than 3,000 are located in England. Ranked at 600 is already in the top 20 percentile which could be classified as so called Band 1 school in Hong Kong parents' mindset.
Yet, a good school is not merely made up of good rankings and good grades. More importantly, if the school makes your child achieving more than he ever though possible, that is a good school.
I would suggest you guys study the ofsted reports of your targeted schools. It tells much more than what FT told you.

Thank you for your reply. Totally agreed. I did read their ofsted reports as well. They are informated and useful.
Actually, there are not many choices of State Boarding School near London. I only target for 5 to 6 schools. Hope they have places next year.

The quality of students (in terms of background, personalities, lifestyles) in state schools are quite mixed so you must bear this in mind. Unless your child is determined enough, you must ensure that she behaves considerately over there and not easily be tempted into doing anything silly, if that's what you want.

唔明！妳女兒是否跳級？如果唔係仲有很多學校收yrs10學生。另外妳講話成績一般，即係中或底。

另外UK中學通常yrs10 & yrs11為一個課程，很少學校收yrs11學生。

我也知很多boarding schools 仍有學位, 但係這些都是private schools, 我只target state schools. 成績一般, 是指中間, 她現在是讀IB MYP 課程的

Actually, the ranking various from year to year, last year(2010) this school ranked before 400 and I do not know what happened that they dropped by 200 in ranking in 2011, but this year they might climb up again since their GCSE and A-level distinction rate had reached to a new level.
Wymondham is 82 acres in size and is one of the best performing state boarding schools in England, its status is similar to Marymont or Maryknoll in Hong Kong. A lot of parents want to move the catchment area hoping that their children could go there, as a result the property prices for that area is very high. Wymondham has about 10% admission to Oxbridge which is very good. It also has a very beautiful surroundings and offers large variety of extra activities includiing horse riding etc.
My two girls are going there this year. I applied last August. We do need to apply early in order to secure a place, I know few had been turned down after the interviews.

You mean Wymondham's principal will come to HK next month? You may ask your agent to give you some "normally ask questions" to study.
By the way, my daughter has got an offer from another school! 一天都光晒!

For girls, Stamford High School is good. Stamford is an old town and the people there are majority middle class. It's away from London and the school fee is very reasonable.

Stamford is a good school. However, it's not a state boarding school, money is a concern for many parents :loveliness:.

My school agent has confirmed with me that Wymondham's representatives will come to HK in June, The purpose is interviewing those students who want to admit this September. And their agenda is quite full. For those want to apply for 2013, there is a chance to meet them in the coming October in Hong Kong.

Totally agreed!!! Good point!!!! If you check the A*/A/B chart, you will find it's very competitive among schools.

My daughter is going to UK to study year 9 in the coming Sept 2013. Steyning Grammar School accepts her and asks to pay 800 pounds deposit this month. Wymondham College also accepts my daughter.
Agent said Wymondham is better, isn't it ?
A private school also accepts my daughter which the boarding fee is 24,585 pounds a year. However, Wymondham College only costs me 8,289 a year. A great difference.........
Which guardian company should I use ?

Steyning Grammar is located in a small village, quiet and peaceful.
The school boarding got the Ofsted outstanding performance this year again. The boarding facilities and staff supporting are very good. They are care and concern boarders' need. My daughter is very happy to study there. It is a "happy learning" school. Hence you want your kids to study hard and get very good result in open exams, I think this school would not be your choice. You may ask Tommy for more info about Wymondham then.
Regarding guardian issue, as I ask my friend who lives nearby as my daughter's guardian, not very clear about employ of guardian. Other parents of EK may help you.

我仔同樣申請Wymondham College Year 9 for 2013, 但仍在等待中，未有著落。 To be honest, Wymondham is pretty good, don't miss the chance.

They admit quite a lot Chinese boarder from HK. My experience, they ask student to write 300 words essay after interview. It's quite a good school.
Last year, I heard that they build some more boarding houses and admit more sixth form students. (I don't know if it is true)

聖誕節前，我家收到一份很好的聖誕禮物，是一封來自Wymondham College的信件，他們取錄了小兒入讀明年Year 9。兩個仔好開心，佢地兩兄弟分開了幾個月，明年又可以再次入讀同一間中學，住同一座宿舍，繼續手足情深、互相照應。
