最貴是校車,可上網check;
school lunch around $26

For year one, I deposited $1,500 in the student account and there was 100 odd dollars left at the end of year and the cost including swimming lesson, field trips and Chinese books and work books.  For year two so far is similar....for charity, it's flexible....

The cost is reasonable!

Thanks! Start from Year 1?  When will the lessons take place?  During PE class or after school?  How much each month?

Last year I recalled there was one lesson per week for 6 weeks, about $2 or 3xx.  This year, there will be 2 lessons per week for 6 weeks program is $440.  I think it's different for every grade.  All lessons take place during PE.

The swimming class for year one to year three is scheduled in Mar to Apr. My boy will take the class from this week! And it's during class period. Helper for changing clothes is allowed for year one & two but not for year three and above.

Hi folks,

How do you think about the cost being charged for the EOTC activities?

And do you know some ECA activites held by outside orgs ,including ESF Sports, are being charged at appx $200/sessions per hour?

Certainly, there are some sports teams activities (ISSFHK)  in RC which would  only last for 2 months in each acadmaic  year.

(1)  Costs for EOTC is not cheap. But looks like similar programs elsewhere charge more or less the  ...

1. Cost of EOTC ranges from $3800 - $4800 for Year 5- 9 for various locations in HK, costs from 11k- $13k for year 10 going to locatoins in China, Thailand and Malaysia

2.  ECA - there are 4 ECAs being offered in season 3 to PYP students:  rounders, cricket and event management for year 5/6 students only, free but  with limited spaces, SNAG golf provided by outside providers for year 3-6 at $1225/7 one hour sessons, avg $175/hour, 8-16 spaces.

3.  ESF Sports - occupied most of the prime time , Friday after school and Sat,  especially the  secondary gym and swimming pool . Classes charged at $200/hour session

4. ISSFHK - it has 3 seasons/school year which  provides team competitions for 4-5 sports each , last only for 2 months. Most sport teams lack of continuity when the season is over unless supported by passionate coaches or teachers.

1, EOTC : It is a mandatory program and Year 4 - Year 10 students have to take that no matter parents judge that worth or not. But one thing that we can confirm regards the year 10 EOTC prgram is, a premium of over $7000 per student on top of airtkts and accommodation is being paid   to the service provider, APA, for a 6 days trip for a total of 47 students. The cost of the APA service portion is over 60% of the the total trip cost. and the EOTC cost of the year 10 is more than a month tuition of MYP. This has been confirmed by the school.

2.  ECA : I count activities being released by the school 's publication officially. http://www.renaissance.edu.hk/sites/renaissance/files/ECA-S3.pdf

Readers can check in the school news to verify. Certainly there are some on and off activities organized by entheastic parents and teachers.

3.  ESF Sports schedule in RC could be found in ESF sports website. http://www.esf.org.hk/esf_sports/general/schedule_T3.asp

No need to argue. I consider Friday after school and Sat as prime time for students after school activities. Pac rooftop, secondary gym, swimming pool, primary gym , even outside basket court are occupied by ESF Sports on Friday afterschool.  BTW, the swimming pool is occupied by ESF Sports Mon, Wed and Friday after 3:30pm.

4. ISSFHK - http://issf.hk/sports competition sports are bascially for MYP students  and each sports only last for 2 months. "All teams practice regularly " is a misleading statement as my girl has been in one of  the "Black kite" team for last 4 years. Team players are recruited 2 weeks prior to competition  starts. Practice  one week before competition starts by volunteering  teachers, some  only with limited coaching knowledge in that sport.

However, I beleive  the school mgt is trying to make improvement on each of the above areas via the help of entheastic parents and teachers. We have to identify and admitt areas need to be focus before improvement and corrective actions could be made.

Have a good weekend!

Different parents have different expection from the school and there is always rooms for improvement to make our children learning experience in RC a better one. Some would like to stay quiet or act as a guardian for the school but others would like to make  constructive suggestions to fine tune the system, both helps.

RC swimming pool is occupied not by ESF sports but by the school's swim team every afternoon. ESF sports is only using a couple of lanes on certain days. Swim team is open to all and completely free for those who are willing to meet attendance and competition requirements.

Thanks for the info. BTW, if a student cannot swim 50M , or simply do not want to join the swimming team as he/she is not interested in competition swimming, can he/she  still use the swimming pool,  or have chance to learn how to swim ro improve her/his swimming strokes in RC after school without joining ESF Sports organized training classes in RC?

If you mean whether the students can swim on their own in the pool without joining any club or class, I believe the answer is no although I'm not completely sure.  But I think the same applies to most other schools, local or international, who reserve the pool for use by their swimming teams or rent out the lanes to swimming clubs as an extra source of revenue.
I think children nowadays do not count on their schools to teach them how to swim, otherwise the swimming clubs would not be swamped with students.

To my understanding, RC pool is also rented out to swimming clubs like Win Tin and Dali so ESF Sports is not the only option.

Agree with Ciz!
My son joins tennis class conducted by ESL. I pay for it and I'm fine to the arrangement.
My point is - the extra charge is fair in year 1 -3, eg field trip, theatre entertainment, visit to museum and etc.

Having free competitive swimming coaching and practice is good to many but may be  we should also consider using the pool for  other water sports classes , such as water polo, water ballet, or life saving. Contrary to what you said, it is actually quite convenient to most parents if their children can learn sports right after school, this will at least save a trip for them and can just delay their normal pick up time for an hour or two. And that's why ESF Sports is in RC as early as 3:30pm 3 out of 5 school days.

Radiomama,

ESL is having 3 tennis classes at RC  right after school on Friday, 1st class starts at  3:15pm. Many parents would not mind paying $200/hour since  ESL is the only option at RC, simply because the school is a safe and convenient location to most RC parents.

But do you know it is possible for parents to pay as little as $7 per hour for tennis class in RC if we can use the facility free from the  school? I guess most parents would not mind pay 1/30 of the ESL cost and enjoy the same convenience.
