I think some RC parents can answer you on why the school wants to make Fridays half days. But if you have doubt, I think the best is for you to talk to school directly. Its your child's education afterall.
Personally (I am not a RC parent), I do not see any harm of having a half day off on Friday. In fact I do not arrange any extra tuitions on Friday so that the child can have a full rest. So not bad at all. However, like you, I do not have a helper so extra money might need to spend on baby sitting. As for increase on school fees, everywhere is the same and not just RC.
