Not that my kids will do IB any time soon, but I am just wondering if a student who hasn't got a clue what he wants to do in university or as a career, is there a combination of IB subjects which will give him the widest flexibility assuming he has no particular preference or weakness in any of the subjects. I mean is there a combination of 3 subjects from Groups 3 and 4 that would satisfy all or most of the university courses' requirements.

You may need another consideration - his strength, like languages or Maths....
Go for flexibility vs chance to score high......
My 2 cents - flexibility based on strength.

Thanks, ANChan59. I guess his 2 language and maths choice are more or less settled. The only thing I am not sure about is the other 3 subjects from Groups 3 and 4. Anyway, it sometimes amazes me when kids of 17 year old know exactly what they want to do in university or even what career they want pursue for the rest of their lives. I wonder if they all truly know what it is like to work as a lawyer, a doctor, an engineer ...... etc.

We are also struggling this issue. My son loves science, but he does not decide by now which direction exactly for his university. So he would like to take all three science courses, Phy, Chem, and Bio. However, it is very difficult for him to take all in IB. We do not know if universities in US have requirement for a specific course taken in secondary school similar to the universities in HK? Anyone knows?
In addition, it seems the content and the depth of Maths, Phy, Chem, and Bio are less in IB than in NSS, am I right?
