My son is studying Kentville K2 and will choice a Primary School this year. I think the standard of Chinese, English and Mental is very high and like primary standard. The tuitor said boys in Lasalle is studying very hard and not easy . Overall the standard of Primary is very high and difficult . In English, the teacher read a long sentance for dictation and speak very fast.
Student always feel hard to study , right?

The Math standard of Kentville is outstanding. However, sometimes, I feel that whether a student excel in Math is not solely dependent of the school. Sometimes, gender may play a part. I have an elder girl and a younger son. My girl scored high marks in Kentville, always 100 in her assessment. My son always scored 100 too. However, I realise that my son's sense of numbers and arithmetic power is much more talented than his sister. When my son was just 4, he already know how to add sums like 5+9 without teaching him.
God is always fair. My son's strong in Math but weak in verbal articulation, unlike his sister, who is so strong in language. She started to write diary when she was in K3.

For this year (P1 - 2007/08), there are a number of successful cases with 20 marks. Thus, for 25 marks -- sure win. For 20 marks, the chance is around 1/5.

If your son has only 20 marks, I think the chance is 1/6 or 1/7 for the year 2008/09. Luckily, you still have a chance.
Reason:
Firstly, boys admitted by Part A are getting more and more, as parents are more willing to have the 2nd or 3rd child if the eldest son was admitted.
Secondly, the number of boys who are having 25 marks is increasing. Many old boys know the rule of the game.
Thirdly, boys who are having 20 marks are becoming more and more, as many parents are getting more familiar with marking scheme.

LS is a government subsidize school. You have to go through the lucky draw unless you son has 25 marks in hand.

哈，嚴格黎講，根本學校冇分banding，不過ｄ人籠統咁叫，出得band 1學生多o既咪叫band 1小學，收得band 1中一生多o既咪叫band 1中學law。

我個仔過往成績不錯,全級10名內,
但課外活動不太突出,
我個仔當年小一第一回合入唔到,
我們便放棄了,但我今日仍feel sorry for my son,
老爺當年也有点失望,但我一直什麽也沒有做,
今年真的想試一試,還了個心願,
得唔得都好,至少試過!!

記得我囝囝以前o岩o岩讀幼稚園K1果時，因為近LS，屋企人就話第時囝囝可以讀LS，我當時反對，我話唔想個仔讀名校。然後我仔細研究左好多學校，最後好搞笑，我同返屋企人講：「LS真係一間好學校！」所以我覺得有好多家長畀囝囝入LS唔係因為佢o既名氣，而係真係鍾意間學校。

I guess just same as most of the schools, good at academic results, extracurricular activities, music instruments...etc. Achievement in some open tournaments is bonus. Perhaps would consider more about the parents' attitude in primary school.
2) What are the procedures for they to recruit the transfer students?
Write them a letter.
3) what preparation I need to do for the transferral? through direct application? or through "knocking door" or need some famous people's recommendation letter?
i) Make up your mind, ask yourself do you really like the school or not, how much do you know about the school and her policy...etc
ii) Talk to your son, ask for the acknowledgement and understanding, otherwise it would be a torment to the parents and kid.

我知道的很有限，嘗試列舉一些出來吧。相信就像很多其他學校一樣，都有舉辦小一家長會，為小一家長較詳細講解一下學校的特色及傳統等；另外有大哥哥計劃、家長義工照顧低年級學生、讀故事等；至於家課方面，家長可在內聯網查到每天情況，所以不用擔心學生抄漏家課。再詳細一點我便答不到你了，看看有沒有其他家長答你吧。

1) What kinds of boys the school is looking at?
I guess just same as most of the schools, good at academic results, extracurricular activities, music instruments...etc. Achievement in some ...

我聽人講話今年開始既p1都係活動教學, 所以只有30人一班
但當呢班學生升到p3時, 佢地就會轉番做傳統教學, 到時就會每一班都多d人
咁d人係邊到來呢? 咪就係出面插班入來囉!
唔知係呼真, 不過可以留意下

我記得當年, 有900多人第一輪報名去爭111個位,
有30幾人係必收生, 跟住25分全部收晒,
而只有160人有20分去抽59個位,
機會比油天或者屋村名校更高,
但十五分真係無可能係第一輪入到 !
其實第二輪都唔易中, 起碼都有抽唔中呢七百個學生,
即接近千人去抽百二個位(大約), 出年應該更少位,
不過有機會都好過一d機會都無,
唔係掃大家興,
十五分真係唔駛唸,
d人成日都話有人只有15分都入到....真係無 可能架
(一係d人當首名兒子加宗教分都係15分,唔記得加埋係人都有既適齡5分 or 係第二輪大抽獎抽中, 唔關你有幾多分既問題)

9月睇明報既教育在線時見到, 07/08年度, 喇沙係第一輪中共有96個位, 但世襲位已佔去58位, 所以即使有20分, 入到既機會都唔係太高! 但以全期計數, 競爭情況就平均係8.7人爭1個位!
