St. Catherine’s K1 interview is just round the corner, I have summarized the experience shared by BK parents in attending the interview last year.
I hope that those parents whose kids will attend interview will find the information useful.

Parents should bring some food, drinks, or even toys, for your kids as it might take a long time to line up before the interview is conducted.
Last year’s experience advised that the interview took about 1 to 2 hours although some lucky ones (especially those with an early morning appointments) could leave within 45 minutes.

The kids will first attend group interview.
4 kids sit in a rectangular table and play Lego.
Parents sit behind the table.
Teachers observe the kids and write their comments on the form.

Then, each kid will go to another room with parent to take individual interview with one teacher.
Questions asked include:

Kid
1. Ask the kid to tell his/her name
2.Ask the kid to tell his/her age
3. Ask the kid who brought him/her to school that day
4. Teacher took out a towel, toothbrush,and biscuit and asked the child what they are and what they use for.
5. Ask the kid to do color matching (blue,red, yellow) and to recognize the colour
6. Ask the kid to build blocks
7. Ask the kid to pick out a picture which is the same as the teacher's
8. Ask the kid to point out his/her eyes/earsand tell their function
9. Show the kid a cup and ask what it isand its purpose
10. Show the kid a spoon and ask the kid what it is.
Then ask the kid to use the spoon to scoop some macaroni from one bowl to another
11.  Ask the kid to put some beads through a thread provided.
12. Ask the kid to use a spoon to put food from one bowl to another
13.Ask the kid to put 5 small paper balls into a bottle
14.Show the kid with three picture cards and ask the kid to recognize the different one.

Parents
1. why they choose St. Cat.
2. what they would do if their kid fights with another child in the park
3. what they would do if a kid takes your kid's toy and makes him/her cry
4. what they would do if their kid loses temper in the street
5. what they would if their kid does not share the toy with another kid

the duration for first round playing toys are really long, almost 20 mins in a small table. This is to test the kid's attentiveness. some kids will start to go to other tables when they feel bored, or fight for other toys. Each table the toys may be different. Some with Thomas, some with lego only.

May I ask if the Parents part is in English or in Cantonese?

If you choose English to interview, parents will be asked in English too. Also, it's better to train your child to answer in complete sentences instead of a single word. e.g. when the teacher ask your child "what is your name?", it'd better to answer "My name is XXX (including the surname) etc.

Wonder if St Catherine will refer my child to their PN if she didn't do too bad in the interview as is a super small B (born late Dec 2009). I don't think she is capable to answer in full sentence ..etc,. at the interview. She is quite shy too. I think last year the small B got referred to their PN....wonder if it will be the same situation or do we have to re-apply their PN in Dec?

Have the same concern, will you ask directly during interview?
