I did the phone interview yesterday and I am worrying about the teacher saying that my girl is not talking much in school.
At home, I noticed that she is able to talk much more than before (at least when comparing to 2 months ago), and has started to talk in complete sentence.
However, I know that she is still a bit shy in front of adults (good to communicate with children) and I always encourage her to talk and communicate with different people.
I recall when my girl started her 1st term in the nursery, her class teacher also said she was a bit slow in understanding teachers' instructions due to language constraint (She knows English more than Chinese); we then talk to her more in Chinese at home and very soon, within 1-2 months she picked up quickly and participate actively in class.
Am I worry too much or is it normal for every children at this age (she was born in July 2008)? It's true that she is a bit slow in responding compare to those classmates who were born in Jan / Feb.
Any advice for you, parents?

Hi, ireneroybama
My girl was also born on July 2008. She doesn't talk much according to the teacher. Our NCC teacher said no worry and it's normal because it's only October and the children will adopt to school life later.
I would ask my girl what did the teacher teach but she can't tell much. She can only tell me something she is interested in. For example, the songs, the Teacher is sick today, which classmates did not atend the school and what did she have for the snack time. I would try to ask something I know about the class and lead her to talk.
Maybe her daughter understands English better than Cantonese. But most teachers and children are talking in Cantonese and therefore your girl can pick up Cantonese quickly.

Don't worry too much. I think this is absolutely normal as the children will need some time to adopt, to a new environment. Basically there are so many things happening a day it is difficult for them to recall all of them when you meet them at home. Sometimes, if you can take a half day off, see if you can pick them up from school and you may have different experience.
It will certainly get better when they start to get used to the school life. It is also easier for them to make sense of things to tell you in a organized fashion.
