Boys - Westminster (only very few boarding places), Eton
Girls - Wycombe Abbey, Cheltenham Ladies'
Co-ed - Sevenoaks
These are just my personal favorites but there are many others which are equally good.

As far as I know, my friend's daughter is now studying in the elite Westminster. So I think it is a co-ed school.

There aren't many pure boys' schools any more (<10 that I can name off the top of my head).
Many like Rugby has turned fully co-ed, but some like Westminster & Charterhouse accept girls only for A-levels.

Here are some destination U of my friends’ kids. Though it is not the conclusive evidence of the academic performance of a particular boarding school, you may see that there are some linkages on the ranking of schools to their destination U.

Cambridge: Shrewsbury
London U/Imperial : Harrow, Abington, Charterhouse, Winchester, Badminton
HKU/HKUST/CUHK : Tonbridge and Badminton (All of them were admitted by Imperial but chose to come back HK)
U of Cardiff, Hull, Kent etc : Monmouth, Bromsgrove, Espom, St. Peter

CPU, you have always given out good advice, but this time I think you have given out a very wrong message.
Out of all the schools you have mentioned this time, Shrewsbury really is close to the bottom of the pile in terms of academic achievements, judging by their persistent low ranking compared with the other schools.
The fact that some of their students get into Oxbridge is irrelevant.
The percentage of successful Oxbridge candidate is far higher in Winchester, Harrow, Tonbridge, Badminton & Charterhouse.
According to the guide to independent schools, the percentage of successful Oxbridge candidates are:
Westminster  - 45%
Winchester    - 37%
Tonbridge      - 22%
Badminton     - 20%
Harrow          - 15%
Charterhouse - 14%
St Peter's       - 12%
Monmouth     - 10%
Shrewsbury    - 9%
Don't get me wrong - I still consider Shrewsbury to be a good school, just nowhere near the top of the list!

I agree with you that a particular student's achievement may not give the full picture of the school concerend. In fact, Shrewsbury was not my son's priority school due to the trending down of its ranking in recent years.

For Tonbridge, Harrow, Winchester and Charterhouse, they are the elite schools and my friends highly recommend them. However, I didn't apply them for my son since they might be the wrong match with my son.

Thanks a lot for the info. I'm planning to send my son to study in the UK as well. Anyone can recommend schools near London?

The nearest school is Dulwich College (Boys) at West Dulwich, south of River Thames, only 10 minutes by train from Victoria railway station, London. Its ranking is within 100.
