Last Year, I tried different shops, at different days. I spent a lot of money on this item, and I found no shop satisfactory. At some shops, I spent more than 1 hour just taking photos, but still no one photo was found acceptable. Probably the camera did not like my kid's face.

So I recommend you go to some that particularly focused on interview photos for kindergarten. They have some skills to keep the kids attentive for the camera.

There is one famous one in Shatin.

I wonder if the schools will pay much attention to the photo, or even profolio.

I took the photo at home in front of a clean wall. Picked the best one and then went to a chain store. They cut and printed it according to your requested size.

Very simple and you can take as many photos as you like until you have a good one.

主要問題是孩子能不能數分鐘便"入戲"。多數影樓都不懂帶孩子入戲。壯態唔好，該次拍照便泡湯，映樓又冇refund/retake, 又冇時間和你磿。所以有人說影相不如分幾次影，不同時間，希望影多幾次，能找些好的來用。

善x口吾掂主要是用film，不能即時check 相，如影兩張都唔掂，又不能即時知，你話點算?

所以，小一面試相，一定(最好)係影digital，每次影多幾shots，多些相可選。
如能找些專影小孩會最好，所以我之前說Shatin那間。但不是唯一一間。

A good comment, but no one knows whether it is valid or not. Some say the photos are important, some say no.

But let me ask you, if you were the principal, and you receive thousands of forms with similar background, would the photo quality give you some hint how serious the parents are to the application.  It is a matter of "packaging" -- a key element of marketing!  We sell impression, the first impression.

If you use a regular photo and still got a place in most of the schools you apply, you can then make this comment.  But the fact is we don't want to take risks.  Every parent just want to do everything perfect to eliminate one more factor that may leads to failure.

Similar thought costs me almost two thousands on photos.

If I were the principal, I would look more into the substance of the application, rather than superficial appearance; I would observe whether the parents would spend their money and effort on educating their children and promoting their interests, rather than on trying make their children look better by taking photos in a studio.

Just as one of the threads mentioned, the purpose of taking photos in a studio seems to be just making parents feel better for "having done everything". The effect of the photo, if it carries any weight, is minimal.

Maybe I am a practical person and superficial things cannot impress me or even give me a bad impression. Every person is different and I cannot rule out the possibility that some principals do pay more attention to such things.

I just want to share my experience.

Homemade photo does not mean low quality.  It helps especially for those kids that are nervous with strangers.  When I used up all school photos, I took one at home and my girl was smiling so lovely.

I understand how parents feel because I went through that.  I did push one school to accept my profolio, although they insisted not to at the beginning.  I didn't think that they would read it, just myself felt better.

FYI, I applied for 6 schools, got 4 accepted and 2 waiting.

I did not even buy new clothes for interview.  Better to spend more time with your kids and teach them how to think.

Work hard all K2 parents!  It will be a very good learning experience.  You may find yourself change totally over the process!

Can't agree more. What kind of school it is if they make a decision on photos?

Yes, I took photos at Clubhouse when there was the promotion there at the cost of $15/12 pieces and the quality of the photos were fine.

Frankly, I don't spend much time on searching shops to take photos as I don't think it is an important part that I should pay attention to. I think the interview performance is the most important and then followed by profolio.

No worries as normally schools interview all applicants and they make decision mainly by their performance and very little consideration on other factors. Hope this can help.

Not really. I used photos in uniform just for convenience, as they are taken every year by the kindergarten and the kindergarten gave us as many as 12 photos; of course, the quality of those photos is not too bad. :)
