大家多數會去哪兒買書給小朋友？英文書選擇較多, 但可有較平的推介？另外, 哪兒買中文書較多選擇？

來來去去都是大眾、商務、三聯等...有否其他推介？

You may check overseas online bookstores too.

Say, I bought Mr. Men - box set of 50 books from UK's bookdepository last Christmas and it costed about GBP46 that included international delivery to my door. In HongKong, you'll find the same box set with listed price about HKD1,500 in Popular, Commercial Press ... etc.

In UK's online bookstores, it's easy to find much discount on ORT books too but not every bookstore handles international delivery.

At the same time, some books are cheaper in US, say, Amazon. Please check and compare.

For Chinese books, I'll get it from Taiwan and China too. Say, in one of my previous trips to Beijing, I ordered quite some books online from Dangdang.com at night and the books are delivered to me the next morning with much discount than going to the bookstores.

I usually go to Dymocks to buy books for my child. It's a good choice of book shop.

Yes that the books I purchased through dangdang.com are printed with simplified Chinese characters.

For complex Chinese characters books, I have not found any cheap online bookstore. Hope other parents with related experience can share with you.

Besides, a few more suggestions to share here.

1. Taiwan is a place worth visiting for family with children. Say, staying in farms ... etc. Schedule some shopping time for books in your next trip there.

2. If Taiwan is not your cup of tea, please visit Bookfair and make bulk purchase.

3. In Bookfair, you may check with individual publishers/book sellers on whether they may have warehouse sales. Say, King Horn Press will have a warehouse sale in 23-29/9/2011.

Dear BK parents who have requested for PM from me,

I have just received approval from BK to share my little experience by posting my reply here. This will save much effort from sending PM one by one. Below please find my sharing.

For UK, I have used 'www.bookdepository.com' as their price covers international delivery.

(If any people in UK can help you for delivery, please try www.thebookpeople.co.uk too. They often sell ORT books collection at big discount. Say, they did sell a set of 48 ORT Read at home books for less than GBP30 a few months ago. Haven't checked for a while and am not sure about their latest promotion.)

For China, I have used 'www.dangdang.com' when I was on trip to Beijing before. They do deliver to Hong Kong but with charge.

Depending on your own network, you may find other online bookstore, say, Amazon may even be more suitable for you. (Note that due to exchange rate fluctuation, Amazon in UK and US may cost you differently.)

There are really too many online bookstores in the world and no single bookstore can give you the best price or service for all books. Please check and compare. Just like general online shopping, there is risk involved so better purchase from those reputable shops even though they may not be the cheapest. Listen to the comments from your friends who have used the shops before.

Do visit bookstore and book fair too as sometimes good deals can be found. e.g. I found and bought some bargain books (chapter books such as Bionicles and Star Wars) from Cosmos in Wan Chai with discount over 70% a few months ago. Of course, these are not the latest publications but I know my son does like them.

In additional to purchasing new books, please consider borrowing books from Public Library and enrolling your kid to their reading program as well.
