as above, I want my boy study in a kind of non-stop-shop IS, then study abroad. Should I put him in one at a reception stage?

Your question was should you or shouldn't you put your son in reception year? The answer is of course YES, coz you said you want to put your boy in a school that has reception year to diploma programs.
