I think for some of us, as a "worker", it's time for us to get the salary increase (hopefully) and set this year goal and target, while at the same time, I start to receive my son's test results for different subjects, I think that there are ways of improvement so as to better test the kids capability. It comes to my mind that there could be a lot of comment or suggestion on how to better access our kids and even ourselves capability and so to reflect to our salary and academic result respectively.
I wonder if this is a good topic that parents would be interested to share their opinions here on how to better access the kids capability, what should be the test/exam look alike and how to approve etc....
Would it be too serious topic

In the higher class, students need to write composition for both Eng. & Chi. in the test and exam. A suggestion to the school is that we could add daily mark for the composition of both Eng. & Chi. so that it can be more fairly access the students composition capability.
If other parents agree?

There is a problem that not all the compositions are done at school. If there are helps from parents, then the marks are still not effective enough to reflect one's ability.
Besides, daily works are mainly marked by teachers of separate classes. The marking scheme may vary among the teachers. Parents might complain there are unfairness if such scheme is used.
Furthermore, daily compositions are supposed to be a learning process only. Students will learn how to do it better when teachers give comments.
To sum up, I still support the current examination system. Imagine that if daily marks are included, parents might not only be busy during exam period but every school day.

shall "access" read as "assess"?

I tend to disagree any further works or exams to be added to the students since they have sufficient homeworks already. The individual differences in composition is a matter of time and age, I believe, and presume the students are able to improve through the normal learning process in school automatically. Or otherwise you may say they lack "substances" in live, so I would prefer the little ones to learn more such substances through outside school activites, like visits, sports, reading or whatever. To improve, I think the current test and exam system will do.
I recall I opted TSL because I considered it's different from other schools, and I think it's teaching method is good enough to meet my original expectation.
To satisfy some parents' needs, they may suggest the school to run some sort of compositon ECA but need not to make it regular in class.

Amusing_baby,
Thanks for the correction. Yes, it should be "assess".
Sorry for the confusion. My idea of daily mark is just like Dictation, i.e. kids have to do composition in class (not at home), say 3-5 in 1 term and take the average marks as the daily marks.
The reason I raised this is that in the last test of Chi., I found that the topic of the compostion is "too simple" and some very capable students "lost hand" and got pretty low marks. [To be honest, my son is lucky this time.]And so I think if there is daily mark, it will not be too heavily relied on the test/exam result. Of course, I see the drawback is that there will be less time spent for teaching/learning. But I did aware that some schools use average mark of composition in Class as the exam mark and no exam of composition.

Well, if the purpose behind is to see how well the students do, there are 2 schools of thought, day day test Vs only 1 off exam. They all serve the purpose.
"day day test" takes the test results daily and the average represents the ability of a student. This may also average out the incidents of "losing hand" in some ocassions.
"1 off exam" with a very difficult paper may help yo see clearly who is competent and who is not.
They are both fair but the effect is different. One is day day unhappy , the other is just some times unhappy.
These examples may be too exaggerated but we need study-live balance.
