thank you so much!!!

if you are applying N class for ksc for year 2012-2013, kcs won't accept your application as for 2011-2012, they will only accept baby who was born on 1/1/2009 to 31/8/2009 only. So you can only apply K1 this year for entry next year.

does that mean no matter what my daughter will be one year behind? because I was a 大b as well when I was a kid, and it didn't feel great cos I was the oldest and my classmates used to say I'm stupid cos I "repeated" the year.

I think it doesn't mean your girl will be one year behind, just that for some KGs with PN class (pre-nursery class for 2 yr old kids), they usually won't accept babies born after Aug 31 of the year. For e.g., in 2011 Sep onwards KGs will start accept application for the academic year of 2012/13. If for PN class, some KGs will state clearly that they only accept kids born before 2010 Aug 31.

In your case, if you are applying PN starting school in 2011 Sep, you actually missed the application timeline for most KGs already. Therefore, you can simply just skip PN, but go directly to apply K1 when the application season starts this year. That means if lucky enough your kid can start K1 in 2012 Sep.

For KGs application it has nothing to do with living in 區內 or not.

I think, you may start searching some more KGs info and how the system runs now. May be this link will help:
http://www.chsc.hk/

Also you can search the edu dept website.

Hope this helps.

Thank you so much Angine. That was some very useful and detailed info!

Just a quick question, would you say Victoria Ed. or Tutor time is better?
Because my daughter got accepted to Tutor time play group but I'm actually not sure about nursery...

Thanks so much!

Hi Chucolate,
Just saw your post.
My son attended playgroup in both Victoria and TT.  See if you'll find my comments useful.

TT playgroup is conducted in english and PTH within each 1.5 hr session.  The teachers there can really initiate the kids to interact during classes and they are pretty good at controlling the discipline in class.  My son has been attending their playgroup for a year and he learns a lot from there. Their kowloon tong campuses are quite good and TT Wow is famous for their PN and PG.

For Victoria, their playgroup session lasts for 2 hrs and mainly conducted in cantonese and english, plus a 15min session of PTH each week.  Their campus at Harbour Height (on HK side) is the best among all.  Their PN and K1-K3 program are good as they promote trilingual and emphasize initiatives of learning.  Some students from their K3 classes also got some very good placement in those famous local schools.

Personally, if aiming for PG only, I like TT more as I'd like my son to learn more PTH.  Also, TT has a larger outdoor playground, which is good to health since the kids can have activities under sunshine.  However, if thinking of the future plan of getting into PN or K1 at Victoria/TT, or even other famous K1 local school, Victoria seems better.

My suggestion to you is that you may try both at the same time if it is afforable.  Also, you may have different thoughts after you have a more clear plan of schooling for your kids.
