I just check the website of ESF
now the school fee is HK$61,000/per year
am I correct?

Before is around HK$47,300......

It has been about the same. 47300 is even cheaper than kindergarten, which is not possible.

ESF has been increasing school fee by around 5% every year in these few years (has increased by 30% from $47300 to $61000 now)!! The ESF management said that they are planning to increase fee again by about 4% this year further even they have large amount of reserve!
Secondary school fee will be almost $100,000 per year and also there is the new capital levy of $25000 introduced starting this year.

No matter how the parents object, they won't stop increasing the school fee every year and govt just approved very easily.

do you mean that we need to pay HK$25,000 more every year?

It is not a subsidized school. All schools receive some money from the Education Bureau to provide education, even DSS and IS do. ESF is no different.

The levy has to be paid by new students when they join the school, not every year. For existing students, they have to pay when they join primary school or secondary school (Y1 or Y7).

For the govt subsidy, govt has frozen the subsidy to ESF since 2003, no more increase in a dollar no matter how many more students joined after 2003. So the average subsidy per student is decreasing every year, much less than the subsidy per student in DSS.

but now........they change....

does your kid/kids are studying in ESF?
how come ESF getting more and more students want to apply without a cheap school fee?
anything very good about ESF?

Yes, ESF's fee is high now and will increase more and more, but compared to other IS, maybe it is still lower.  My kids are studying in ESF schools, when my elder kid joined the first year, we did pay $4700+, then they increased the fee every year no matter the inflation is high or not.  As IS' teaching method and curriculum is very different from local schools, the kids don't like the traditional way of teaching, we have to let them continue studying there.

For expats, they usually let their kids continue high school in their own countries, so they won't bother.  For locals, I think most won't have choice to switch out once they are in.  Besides, many parents work in govt and they got education allowance, such as doctors, nurses, policemen etc.

Basically kids really enjoy school very much, teachers teach very interestingly and the kids develop self-motivation and confidence.  They have assessments regularly on all subjects, but they don't need to study very hard before that like students in local schools.

In secondary schools, they have much more homework and exams, but they also enroll in many activities to develop more all-rounded personalities.  I think the education quality attracts people to send their kids in even the fee is getting much higher.
