Letting your child participate in competitions is good for his/her development. Having an award is already worth much appreciation from you. IT's good to have a top prize, but even if it is a participation cert., it still shows that you as a parent are willing to expose your child in different aspects and thus your method of developing your child can be seen.

不要本末倒置，參加比賽是令小朋友建立自信和鬥心的方法，這比是否令你孩子的個人檔案更亮麗來得重要。如果你讓子女參加比賽只為拿獎項，對你和小孩都是很痛苦的。

I understood that I should show some cert on the student's profile when applying the DSS/private primary school.

What if my kid get the cert but it is not the highest marks (say distinction) or rec ...

BTW, 坊間好多 '文' 比賽, 咁 '武' - 即運動如游泳, 體操除YMCA, K2人仔可參加邊D比賽? 請教路.

有d公司會搞運動會架,例如恩格斯.不過,train過d小朋友容易欏獎好多,如果未train過,不要寄予厚望,玩下就好啦

我之前有給亞仔學英文朗誦,因我覺得他比較慢熱+怕醜,想給他增強自信心,又可以有英國及澳洲的考試証書,最重要有得參加朗誦比賽,真的可有機會讓小朋友單獨上台自己對住台下的觀眾朗誦一首詩,雖然沒什麼名次,但已可達到我當初的原意,而額外的是取了一些cert 及拍亞仔上台的照片

完全同意 thomasha 既說話。我識 d 同學仔既媽媽，有比小朋友參加比賽，又有 distinction，咁又點，最終考幾間直資私校都唔收。我個女係有參加比賽，but 唔多(2 個音樂比賽咁大把，只有 merit).亦有攞左 d cert 係參加其他既活動。我沒有把 cert 放在 porforlio (一張都無)，只是有個表話比學校知攞左咩 cert。最後，我個女有兩間學校收左(係我心中呢兩間都係一線學校)，而其中一間仲要係唔收 portforlio 既，另一間就只收 2 頁紙。

所以，唔好諗住猛谷小朋友比賽，大人細路都辛苦，而且亦未必係你想像中咁有用。最緊要係 enjoy 個過程，因為雖然時間過左，但在你同小朋友心中，個 happy moments 先係永恆。

My daughter has no real certs at all but luckily, she was accepted by all DSS and private schools we have attent for interview. So I guess the schools care about the interview more.
Dont' worry too much to prepare the cert! Relax! :)
