但小朋友應如何決定今次是寫a/an還是寫one呢?

如果是我教自己的小朋友，我會告訴他除非在數數(counting)用one, two, three...，否則全部用a/an表示一的數量，即如

a box/two boxes/three boxes...etc.
an apple/two apples/three apples...etc.

there is a box/there are four boxes...etc.
there is an apple/there are five apples...etc.
