有冇人打算2011年到英國讀YEAR 10, 已經有學校收左, 真的很擔心, 好多學校都FULL左, 阿仔到而家都未有著落.

Which school is your son in at the moment & which schools have you tried?
You may have to lower your sight & try for schools with lower ranking.

我個仔是屬於MID-LEVEL, 現於直資中學就讀, 現在已在試200-300RANKING的學校了, 好多自己喜歡的學校已FULL了, 試都冇機會, SO SAD!

直接問學校來得直接快捷一般都覆得好快而且agent好多時候都唔多唔少有誤導成份

而家係收生高峰期搶手的學校係好容易爆額不過可以試keep住問有時會有學生放棄學位而你的仔仔可能有機會

如果想揀位於200-300的學校可以考慮離倫敦遠少少甚至中部的學校
由於位置所以可能尚有学額而且學費會相對廉宜些不過可能有Ｄ要轉多程機

不過我個人就覺得year10黎講學校係中部城市市郊附近可以考慮一來離倫敦遠以防小朋友掛住玩但近個城市又唔怕會太悶悶襯小朋友

天氣黎講其實全國都差唔多真係除非你上到去蘇格蘭

The college is placed within the 10% amongst all hugh school and can't be bad on academic side. Bath is one of the oldest Roman town in the UK and a peaceful city. Good luck to your son's study in the UK.

如果打算去英國讀書, 最好讀完FORM 2過去讀YEAR 9, 由於英國學校以YEAR 9 及SIX FORM為收生階段, 以我個CASE - 報讀YEAR 10, 便好像申請插班, 學位很少, 我於9月已開始找學校, 但好的學校好多時都已FULL, 所以選擇不多

還有, 有些學校於1-2年前已可申請, 你可以先查那一間學校想報, 再到學校網頁看可於何時報讀, 有些好的學校, FULL到連WAITING都唔收, 早D CHECK會好一點

PRIOR PARK 學費是7000幾磅一個TERM, 1年3個TERM

我女而家中一, 已有中學的offer YR9, 打算9月過去讀, 讀完中一去讀YR9剛剛好, 如果讀完中二考YR10的話, 可能到時好多中學都無位, 仲煩! 除非你想讀完中二才升YR9.

請問year 9 是不是等同香港的中三?? 我小朋友現時讀中一, 想讀完中三後去英國讀中四, 好似 saramaco 講到時是插班生,好難搵學校.

如果當中五會考等於GCSE的話, YR9等於中三.
但英國入學主要看年齡, 當地day school YR9 入學年齡為13+, 所以HK讀完中一過去讀YR9並沒有跳級, 我女兒的小學同學, 中學進了本地的國際學校, 也將在9月升YR9.

有部分的boarding school會接受大一年的小朋友入學, 配合國際學生的要求.

-Year 9 is equivalent to HK Form 3 while Year 10 is equivalent to HK Form 4.

-The places for Year 9 are less competitive than entry for Year 10 since many students studying Year 8 would change to other schools for whatever reasons.

-I don’t think that it is too difficult to apply for Year 10 if you submit the application before July of the previous year. In my case, I could also find a within 100 ranking school for my son for Year 10 last year even though I submitted the application in Dec 2009.

-I think that Year 9 is an orientation phase while Year 10 is an acceleration phase for GCSE exam. So it is more desirable to start Year 9 rather than Year 10.

-In any case, I would ask the following questions before acceptance of offer:
-The ratio of Asian students in the school.
-The ratio of Asian students in the boarding house. (Some schools may only have 5% Asian students in school but these 5% students amount to 99% Asian students in the boarding house)
-Is it required for my kid to go to host family if my kid suffers from illness in school (some schools may not have medical centre)?
-What’s the min requirement to promote to Year 12?
-The academic profile of all school teachers. Some famous foremost boarding schools may have over 40% teachers who are graduates from Oxbridge. This information may be found in school’s website or school booklet which may be released to students only.
-Ask the school how to buy 2nd hand school uniform instead of new one. This may save you several hundred pounds.

For good state boarding schools, they normally admit students strictly according to the kid’s age. I applied one state boarding school for my 15 years old son last year but the Registrar required my son to study Year 11 instead of Year 10. Also, state boarding schools normally do not have weekend boarding facilities. Eventually, I found a public school for my son to study Grade 10.

If your friend's kid studies F.3 now, he would jump one form to Grade 11 and I think such arrangement is undesriable for GCSE year.

Except for the elite Colchester Royal Grammar School (ranked 11 in 2011 and admit Year 12 boarding students only), HK’s agencies do not recommend other state schools except for those very low ranking state schools. But there are about 13 HK students out of 30 boarding places in Colchester and HK students normally form a HK group in the school.

If you can afford, I think public schools are much better than state boarding schools in terms of facilities and qualities of teaching.
