二間教學理念完全不同,好難比較,各有各好,只在乎家長囍歡小朋友在什樣既情況下學習,二間都是好學校,選擇時要因應孩子的個性及教學理念是否與學校相同而定.本人確實喜歡"港同"教學理念,在2nd interview時候,也感受到校長對教學既熱誠,不足之處係中學未有公開成績可作參考.

You have received offers from them already?

These two schools are the opposite of the spectrum - RC is very traditional and HKUGA is activity-based. If your child is active, HKUGA may be more suitable; if your child can sit still for long, RC may be a good choice. Both seem to have a reasonably good academic standard.

唉, 成日都比較, 真係好難的, 家長自己去決定小朋友適合讀那一間啦。我係港同家長, 更係覺得港同適合我仔仔啦, 但又點會知是否適合你小朋友呢? 唔係我話係好就好的。

Oh? Why don't they call candidates on waiting list knowing how many have given up their places after registration? Why do they wait so long to call?

Maybe they want to wait until the lucky draw results are announced so that the drop-out list will be complete by that time. This prolongs the waiting time for parents though...not nice.

我以前都以為我女間學校, 係等埋一LOT, 7,8月至CALL, 方便學校行政, 難為D家長等到發霉
而家讀左幾年, 又有同學校D職員8, 至知原來真係無位! (雖然有D都估佢最後唔黎, 但佢一日唔放, 學校都唔可以收生)
希望D家長CONSIDERATE一D啦!

First, thank you for your attention given to my posts.

"HKUGA收你小朋友, 你會否接受"
It depends on whether I have offers on hand and which schools are involved. Assuming I have choices, my son is of a rather quiet and disciplined type, so HKUGA may not be very suitable for him (he might be lost choosing the right activities for himself when he is given too much freedom). Also, even though Kau Yan and HKUGA are both activity-based, Kau Yan pays more attention to academic subjects and their students seem to be more caring and enthusiastic than HKUGA.

I also have sources of info from parents who have elder children studying in both schools. The conduct of HKUGA's students seems to be not as good as Kau Yan's.

I should declare that I received the rejection letter of HKUGA a long time ago, well before its 2nd interview started. :)

Anyway, this is a little off-topic as the title of this thread is "RC vs HKUGA" and KY should be out of the picture. :)

其他學校都係用 waiting list 去補位而唔係用正取生補位?!

I don't think RC should take the risk of over-acceptance, if they are prepared to call wait-list candidates in June. I do think they have a long waiting list though. It's hard to estimate the drop-out rate anyway.

With more children this year, its places can be filled more easily than last year.

It reminds me of something - RC does not allow candidates to take part in the lucky draw or their offers will be cancelled. I don't see why it needs to wait until the lucky draw results are announced in June, because offers made to these candidates would have been cancelled already when they take part in the lucky draw, and they would not be "called back" to accept an offer from RC.

milkonline2, did the school tell you they would only start contacting wait-list candidates in June? It may be true, but it does not make much sense to me.

暫時我知有幾間學校都有超收正取生,其中一間我女是WAITING LIST,我打電話問學校,聽電話既員工承認有超收正取生,所以現階段唔會CALL 後備生,叫我明年六月後再打電話去問.

Maybe the principal is confident about the drop-out rate so he doesn't mind over-offering. Besides, it doesn't reduce (or even increase unnecessarily) the workload of the school's admin staff in preparing offer letters, and they have to be careful in considering the excess offers they make.

RC does not mind bigger classes though, so even if all the offers are accepted, they can simply enlarge the number of students per class. :)

係呀~! 我地去 in RC, 都見佢地約 40 人一班, 我見 09 年係有 5 個班 for P1. 今年佢地預 4 個班...我諗最終佢都係會收多一班. 相信至少有 40 - 45 個 wl 係6 月份會入到去.

我女間學校 - May I ask which school did you refer to? I suppose different private/DSS schools may have different practices.

As far as I understand, RC's drop-out rate is fair but drop-outs also depend on the total number of P1 applicants in HK. This year the total number of P1 applicants in HK has increased by more than 10% from last year, so the drop-out rate may be lower, which means acceptance of over-offers may happen.

As I said, RC does not allow offerees to take part in the lucky draw (2nd stage), so it should not be a factor RC should consider. However, some DSS or private schools may release acceptance results as late as Jan so that after that time a number of places may be released for wait-list candidates. It may call wait-list candidates as soon as accepted places are given up (one by one) if such places are so scarce.

My wife and I went to Praha (Prague) in 2003, before our son was born. It was amazing and my friend there, a local, even took us to taste Czech food. Great memories!

Now we only dare take our son to places with time difference < 3 hours and mild weather. So, next station is "somewhere in Asia". :D

我去過一次了, 今次係特登帶小朋友, 真係見識到a whole new world: d沙地女人著住件袍遊水, 沙漠騎真正既駱駝, 點解架車要兜住個sand dune黎行, 成個城市o係沙上"變"出黎, 齋戒月唔食得野會俾警察拉.......搭咁多鐘頭飛機, 值得!

8間好啦,我今年都是報了8間,去了7間
為何只去了7間,自己心理都承受唔起
但相反我老婆最初打算報3間,我說我研究了2年,我喜歡的,覺得適合的都有5~6間,再加上俾朋友們搞下我才出現了8間

我都好想去杜拜，但適合一家大細嗎？o個度天氣好似成年都咁熱喎。

同意，我都係考8間，已經覺得到左我地承受o既極限，因為每多一間就有好多野跟尾，唔係淨係去面試咁簡單。

我本來仲勇，諗住唔想玩呢個咁痴線o既面試遊戲，一心報自行，唔得就大抽獎 (所屬校網算唔錯)，不過俾朋友搞完我地，結果都係逃唔過呢個魔掌，有時諗番轉頭，花左咁多人力物力財力，值得嗎？

I also apply 2 kindergartens for my son at that time and they all accepted! This year I only apply 2 girl KGs to see whether my daughter will be accepted to become 大女 or not!

Excluding the discretionary place, I have offers/hopes for 3 schools out of 8 applied, so by proportion you should have 1.875 places out of 5 schools you have applied. So it is reasonable that you will receive one or two offers later. Just be patient. :)

I believe if you were I, you will not be patient if no offer in hand! The probability is not applied in this stupid game! I have a friend apply 10+, and only get 1 offer!

Seriously though, I understand your frustration - I was there (no offers on hand) once. The process is painful and offers are not guaranteed even if you apply for many schools (using the case of your friend, 10+ applications --> 1 offer), but the big burden of so many interviews can be mind-draining and physically tiring. My son had 5 1st interviews within 4 days and he nearly got sick on the last day, and my wife got sick for almost one month. Given this, it follows that too many interviews may cause the child to perform worse than his capabilities allow simply because he is physically tired or is fed up with too many interviews.

Maybe you should focus door-knocking on schools you have applied for because other schools may consider it a lack of sincerity if you have never applied for them in the first place. There may be exceptions but focusing on more practical opportunities may be more effective.

根正港同只係小一及小二冇考試, 小三至小六都有考試。小六畢業去了其他小學讀的學生絕對接續到其他小學。
