My child is a boy, he's only 5 and is studying in the Prep class. Australian and New Zealand passport holders have priority in admission. You also get priority if the child has siblings already studying there or parents working there. We are none of those so we were really lucky to have got a place as the majority of the families there are Australians.

Hi highfive,

May I ask if the Australian passport holders are also required to take the interviews for the reception class?

Thanks in advance.

I think so, but I'm not certain. It's rather popular school for Aussies obviously. Even younger children (Aussie) with siblings already studying at the school are advised to submit their applications ASAP to ensure their seats as they become available. We were really one of the very lucky ones to enter as a non-Aussie.

Hi Highfive,

My son is also 5 years old and I want to admit him to this school.  Since he is now studying K3 in a local kindergarten and the school terms are very much different from that of the Australian's.  Can I have him started in Term 3, that is, this July, for Preparatory Class, or shall I only apply for P.1 in Jan 2012?

BTW, is it very difficult to get into this int'l school nowadays and what questions will be asked at the interview?    Thank you.

I believe it all depends on whether there's any vacancy. The seats are pretty much always full and there's always a waiting list so if you're interested you should submit your application ASAP.

As for interview questions I'm not really sure as they only interview the children, not the parents. I think the most important thing they look for is fluency in the English language, both in terms of speaking and understanding. I think they also expect the children to be rather independent too ,and be able to take care of their own basic needs. Unlike local kindergartens, there are no helpers in the school to take them to toilet, make sure they eat their own food, clean up their mess, etc. They are expected to do everything on their own.

do they have Chinese class? if so, does it in Cantonese or Mandarin??
作者: highfive    時間: 10-11-29 17:13

Yes, they have daily Chinese class at the Prep level (I think they have 4 classes per week for Reception). It's Mandarin and Simplified Chinese. But don't expect their progress to be anywhere near local schools as the majority of the students there are non-Chinese.
