It depends on the length of the waiting list and how likely parents are willing to give up these offers.

e.g.
(1) For the most popular pretigious schools, parents may not have many offers because of the keen competition, so if they have an offer from one of these schools, they may not be willing to release it easily even if they have other offers. In other words, there may be very few places freed up for the waiting-list applicants at the end.
(2) For 2nd-tier schools, offers are likely to be released if their applicants have offers from the prestigious schools, so the chance of filling up by waiting-list applicants is higher. (The lower the tier, the faster places are filled up by waiting-list applicants.)

Yes, there will still be some changes even in Sept, that's why many BK parents say you should not lose hope even if you don't have an offer from your favourite schools. However, as I said, if you are waiting for a place in the most prestigious schools, be prepared that there will not be many places freed up at the end.

Yes, you can confirm 2 or more DSS or private schools, but why? Would it be hard to make a choice? If you have done your homework, you should already know the culture and mission of each school you apply for, and whether these schools suit your child. Holding up so many places unnecessarily means other parents have to wait longer than necessary for the places you can release.

Even if you are rich enough to pay all the deposits, please be considerate to other parents who are struggling to have a P1 place.

Yes, pls be considerate. For those parents do not have any offer on hands, it is very worried and cannot have a good sleep at all during the period of time.

你所講的情況，無可厚非。

我相信樓上指的，是那些手上有多間offers，到六月甚至九月開學都不肯放出來的家長，這些家長才是最自私。

就算你六月後等叩門結果，也應該將手上offers留下一個最心儀的，其他放手給其他家長，這才是為人設想的表現。

直資, 其實係唔係一註冊其中一間, 就唔可以再留其他... 如果唔係, 真係可以比d人hold起好多位...

大把咁既人呀! 我呀仔間直資, 到8月31號都仲可以CALL WAITING呀!

真係好鬼心啦! 人就得一個, 生霸死霸咁多個位, 真無品! 就算有10間位, 點都有先後心儀排名掛? 咪只HOLD最心儀囉! 其餘9間又要比錢HOLD...

你這情況，註冊第一間的確無可厚非，不過到了12月你心儀那間小學如果收你，就最好盡早放出之前已註冊那個學位，所以實際上你同一時間只是註冊了一個學位。

所以d人一上o黎就"help", 問點算, 問留唔留好,  真係想鬧鬼佢地...

不過都明白大家都好怕做錯決定...  請大家, 唔好等時間迫你地... 要迫先決定, 往往都會錯...  請大家理智d, 平常心d, 去分析自己小朋友要d乜, 同你地可以比d乜...

我相信大家一定有一或兩超級喜愛的...  咁請大家早日將次選的放手...

我個case都係一樣. 我第二志願係直資學校收左我, 但我第一志願又未有結果. 所以我只好先註冊, 如第一志願收我先放棄之前個位. 因為我都怕冇位讀書.
其實我都報左六間學校有d都未面試, 但既然第二志願都收我, 所以我其他都放棄喇.

我想問如我最後揀私校而放棄個直資留位, 係吾係要先到私校註冊然後再以書面通知直資學校放棄學位?

我覺得一個人最多HOLD兩間比較就算,7月前就要決定放返一間出來,唔好HOLD幾間,累到大家都擔心緊張.(可以既話當然最好只HOLD一間,盡快放返D位出來.)

I understand that all not Kau Yan K.3 students can go to its P.1 class. The school will allocate about 30-50 places for its K.3 students, meaning that they would need to compete (based on conduct and academic performance).

太頑皮及有學習障礙的確唔收.(我仔仔都是該校K3學生)升小晚會校長確有提過.
但只收30-50人及要視乎表現又好似無堤過!

The figure of 30 to 50 (or similar order of magnitude) is my impression after attending Kau Yan's parents briefings (both internal and external). Yes, my kid goes to KY too.

Since the school is a private school, the Vice Principal has explained that the school does not have the needed resources to deal with students with learning difficulties. He reminds parents to send such kids to aided or gov't schools instead b'cos there will be extra subsidies for admitting these students.
