I would like to know any difference in chance of entering st.Catherine for choosing English/ Cantonese in interview. My son like to talk in English , but my husband and me are Cantonese. If foreign teacher interview me, I am afraid they will think we are Cantonese and our English are not native. Any opinion?

I chosen English for interview. Coz my son can say more vocab in eng than in Chinese. My hubby and I are not native English speakers but I think as long as u can communicate with the interviewer and ur son is more confident in answering questions, then u should choose English la...

So what did u indicate on the envelope? English or Cantonese ?

I select English too. Same here, we're not native but my B is taken care by a Philippo maid and her N1 class teacher is a NET. I guess she'll be more confident talking with English ppl... Hope I'm right...

We took English interview too but my friend's picked Cantonese for interview last year but her daughter still got the offer from SC. So I guess the language you used for interview is not really a matter. Remember, the teacher will ask the parents a few questions in the interview. Be prepare for that.

Yes, I also want to know what they will ask in English in the interview? Are the questions the same as Chinese? Several friends chose Cantonese for interview last year and they all sucessfully entered the sc.

如果揀中文 interview，小朋友用左英文答問題的話，老師係會要求小朋友用番中文答多次的。

所以如果大家的小朋友習慣用英文講 car, apple, red....... 之類的話，記得把握呢個幾月時間，快 d 教番佢地 d 中文名稱

先入去 waiting room(課室) 有1-2位老師係度睇住, 幾張枱上有不同玩具, 任小朋友去玩! 有人話係呢間房老師已經係度觀察緊小朋友, 咁我覺得最好係你坐係後排的椅子, 讓小朋友去玩, 最好鼓勵到佢同其他小朋友做到分享, 千其唔好掙玩具 or 見到玩具就太興奮! 跟住會叫名入另一班房家長同小朋友面試見老師! 嗱兩年前可能問小朋友 d 嘢淺 d, 家陣競爭咁多可能會深 d ..

問亞女
1) shapes
2) matching - 幾張動物圖片, match 番一樣樣的圖片
3) show 咗一張玩樂場的圖畫, 指下個遷秋問係咩, 又指下呢問下唠, 又問呢度係咩地方黎0架

問我
1) General 問題關於小朋友 - 邊個照顧, 平時做咩 ...
2) 點解撰 SC

SC Campus 都唔錯, 老師好 nice, 我都好鍾意, 當然 school fees 係貴, 不過真係一間不錯的學校!

如果選英文, 就會由外籍老師interview, 所以家長都係要講英文. 我上年in, 老師拿起支牙刷, 問這是什麼? 我個B答 "Brush the teeth", 老師就說 "It's a toothbrush"老師個樣都cool cool地. 我心諗,見老師個表情,以為唔得. 點知又收到offer喎!

小朋友係工人湊嘅~
平時每朝我地都會同佢行半個鐘晨運, 睇吓d花草樹木
週末除咗會去探公公婆婆爺爺嫲嫲之外, 都會去後山行吓/去附近嘅海邊/遊樂場/太空館/科學館 etc

我當時回答: 小朋友係婆婆同工人姐姐湊. 假期時, 會帶BB去公園, 同埋戶外的地方, 等小朋友可以接觸多D大自然.

其實揀邊個language真係好頭痕! 我個女平時又中又英, 最like專登教佢英文佢就講中文, 教佢講中文佢又講英文...

我覺得佢in 英文無問題, 差在佢肯唔肯開金口, 不過我怕我同老公唔夠fluent, 影響印象... 但係如果in中文, 我又怕小朋友怕中文老師, 因為之前見過普通話同中文老師佢都覺得好surprise咁驚驚地, 可能姐姐, playgroup同學校的老師都係外國人講英文..

You really need to choose carefully. My son interviewed last year in cantonese. The teacher ask about colors. My son usually describe colors in English, so he said "blue". Then the teacher ask if he knew the cantonese of that. Also for some animals shading. So make sure that your kid knew those cantonese which they usually speaks in english (although no one can tell the result even if the kid cannot translate)

Oh...my god, i choose Cantonese for interview... as I've heard from my friend, if i pick English for interview, then we have to sit for one more interview with the mandarin teachers.... both the parents and the kid need to speak in Mandarin...

But my gal only can speaks Eng but not mandarin, so i have to choose Cantonese..... just hope the teacher can accept my gal answer in Eng ..... And maybe, i, being a translator, need to repeat the teacher's questions in eng .....

If the teacher does not accept, then "no way" ....anyway, pray for good luck :)

You will be interviewed in mandarin (2nd in) only if you choose "eng/PTH class". If you choose "eng/cantonese" class, there will be 1 interview only (in the lang u choose).

But if you choose English, that means you wanna to pick Eng / Mandarin class, then both Eng & Mandarin will be tested. But no wonder a kid less than 2 yrs old can really shift the channel so quick... for my gal, she only knows very few Mandarin words (just like ear, nose, head....)....
She can just try best in Eng questions :(((((

小女上年係揀英普interview。佢d PTH都唔係好得，interview 時老師叫佢攞香蕉，佢就比咗蘋果，不過老師教佢講返一次PTH時，佢都會跟住講。而且老師會用PTH跟家長傾談，所以我覺得家長如果選擇用Eng/PTHinterview, 家長點都要識一些PTH。至於選擇用廣東話interview,如果小朋友用咗英文回答，跟據上年d 媽咪所講，老師係會叫小朋友用廣東話再答一次。

Just want to share some experiences with all of you for SC interview:
My girl was born in Dec 06. Since both my hubby and I were using Eng as the mean of communication with my daughter, we have choosen to have interview in Eng.

Interview time was on 0845AM and it was just perfect for my girl as she is an early bird. Please don't go too early as the school would not allow you to go in early. In fact, they have bounded all the facilities outside the classrooms. Just imagine if you are there early but you can't let your child play with the slides, they would get really upset. The most important thing on the interview day is don't get your child upset with anything

Then you will need to line up with your kid for a very short while and be taken to a room full of lego and blocks on the tables.  The teachers (~5-6) will ask the kid to go with them and sit next to a table together with 2-3kids.  Parents were only allow to sit aside to watch.  Just like you were watching movie.  Teachers next to them will talk to them (Too noisy the environment and too far away which I can't hear what she asked).  Then just saw her tick tick tick on a piece of paper.  The whole observation was about 5-10mins then you will ask to take your child to another room.
Now you are in the first interview room and you are allow to sit on the tiny chairs waiting for your turn.  There were two different teachers doing interview at the same time.  We waited for about 2-3mins then it was our turn (During waiting time if you found your kid getting a bit agitated, you may give them a bit of snack to settle them).  She greeted us and asked my girl what is her name.  Then she asked her a couple of questions like colors, shapes. She pointed to a picture and asked her what the boy is doing.  My daughter said: he is eating sandwishes.  She also asked what do you use to eating (spoon/ tooth brush).  Then the NET asked why I want my girl to study there and what is my expectation from the school.  My daughter said to the NET: There is slide outside and slide is really fun.

Then we have been moved to another room for PTH interview. We didn't speak much PTH at home and the only channel for my girl to use PTH was in playgroup, so she didn't do well in this session.  The teacher asked her name and asked her to name several stuff in Mandarin: flower, car and asked her who am I in PTH.  The teacher also asked how were I going to facilitate her PTH learning at home since we are not PTH speaking.
