Dear all,
Are there any parents were informed by School that their kids were being selected to attend the coming Hong Kong Schools Speech Festival?
Can we join the Festival via School if our kids were not selected?

The teachers would only choose 5 to train. I've asked the teacher to help enroll my son, but the deadline was over (as I was told to return the money and form by last Friday). You may send an email to ask thr intranet.

You may tell the subject teacher of your kid if you wish to join, but I think it is too late now.

Thanks limlimcat & FPLV.
Do you know how they evaluate the kids? A bit disappointed as I expect they will inform the parents when they proceed the selection as same as Choir.

This is a common practice while choosing students to join competition, it's either judged by their observation or by other teachers' recommendation. My son said the teacher asked them whether they're interested to 'recite something' together, some students said yes and they got the application form! For P.1, teachers won't know much about the students. Take it easy!
We can't enter the competition ourselves, must thr the schools or some learning centres which have the membership.
MKMAMA, don't be too disappointed! Cheer up!

Yes, the language teachers did ask the kids whether they were interested to join. But they will not train the kids. Stated deadline was 10/9/2010. Some kids didn't like to join and they won't tell their parents about it.
There was a boy in my girl's class who didn't like this game. The class teacher knew his mum would like him to join. In the end, as the boy didn't request for the form, the teacher just respect him and did not force him to the competition.

Thanks all.
Actually, I'm not too serious on those competitions. I even didn't let my son join any for P.1 application. So, no disappointed la. I just think he can have some explosures when he is in his honey moon period (No test/exam in 1st term ma).
Jen2008, you are right. That's what my son told me a day before: "English teacher did ask us to raise up the hand if we want to join the speech contest, but I didn't raise up my hand because I don't want to join ma".
So, I respect my son's decision.

Teachers select the kids for Mandarin group recital. For the individual recitals, kids raise their hands and tell the teachers if they are interested to join. Most parents have to train the kids themselves, only a few are trained by the teachers.
Don't be disappointed....you can always tell your son to try next year.

Hi limlimcat
You mentioned that you have to pay. May i ask if we need to pay for the kids to join the training in school? or is that just for the application fee of the contest.
thanks.
