Does anyone know if York will have test/dictation during their 3 yrs of kindergarten? Are there lots of homework? Are their assessment based on test/dictation or class behavious & observation?

Hi Kalau,

My son just graduated from York this year.

They have dictation per week.  One week English / One week Chinese.

Homework : K1 - 1-2 books
                  K2 - 2-3 books
            K3 - Always 3 books, sometimes 4 books.

Examination - 2 times per year
The students have to do the exam papers.  If the child is top ten student, it will be shown the ranking in the study report.
The examination is very serious (likes primary school's exam), not playing, especially K3 student, the parents have to push kid to study and spell the English words.

Hi Fionyiu,

Thanks for your useful reply. Since your son just graduated from K3, did he get into a good P1 school of your choice? Do you know the suitation of other kids P1 placement? My child has short attention span and I'm still thinking whether I should let him study at York or an activity-based kinder.

Hi Kalau,

You are welcome. My son and his classmates also can got a good offer from good school (such as APS, DBS, DGS, Good Hope, KTS, Ying Wah). I think York is suitable for your son if he is not very naughty. If you can push your child to study, it will be better.

HI Fionyiu,

When do they start to have exams & tests? I think the school said 2nd semester of K2? When do you start to take the Cambridge exam & Stanford exam?

I do like York because of good English but I'm don't want my child to have too much pressure n too much exams. Do you find your kid have a lot of pressure or is he happy too?

Hi Kalau,

Re school exam, once per semester.

Re Cambridge exam, as my son is not a big boy, he took the exam in September (just start K3).

Re Standford exam,  I forget.  Maybe December.  I remember it is after cambridge exam.

My son likes to go to school and enjoyed his school life in York.

In my opinion, if no pressure in the kindergarten stage, your child and you will be much more pressure in primary school stage.

By the way, if you want to find a happy school, I think creative kindergarten (啟思) is more suitable.

Trust me, your son must be very happy in York.  You will not be disappointed.
