Hi,

I always heard that for entering the famous private and DSS school. Interview performance is the most important and even religion is not really counted.

So, does it mean that focusing only the interview prepartion and no need to pay so much attention on othere extra-curriculum activities or prizes gain is not important during k1 and k2 stage. Can anyone get experience share? Thanks

Yes, i agreeded.

Interview performance is 50%, lucky is 40%, other 10% is certificate.

My kid is study in estate KG and  cantoonese as media, no any activities cert or language cert for application.
He applied some DSS, all accepted.
His get first cert of English after the  P1 place confirmed.

One of Master told me that "Kid's  manner, conversation, thinking and obey of order are smart  and good image in this year.
His language is good, are u take any course or exam"
I answered the Master that " All is trained by us, no any private tutor or course jointed."
She asked my son a question "Why are u applied this school."
My son answered "I like english and learn more culture with different people, I think I can learn it in your school."
Next question is " How many school applied?"
My son answer is "I interviewed 2 school until now."
It is my son told me after he leave Master room.
Finally, I selected this school, and give up other top band or famous school.
Current school is less homework, less  copy write, no exam in P1, activity teaching.
My son is happy and enjoy.
His language subject is good.
When I attented first parent day and met Master on playgroud, she told me performance of my son before my speaking and parent label not sticked.
Her memory is very good.

But I also heard that some famous DSS school might ask you what you or children can do it for school.

I can only think of getting prizes or certificaiton. Please correct me if I am wrong

Yes. you are correct.

My son is asked by some interviewer.
Therefore, all of this school offer is give up, even top band one or famous school.
I hope my kid happy studying in first 3 or 4 year.
Less comparsion in P1/2/3.
Leaning to learn for new knowledge.
Build up good language foundation.
Make friendship with different people, even India, Philip.

no any cert or prizes,
ONLY KG K1 & K2 result.
Plus many photo of family activities.

I think my son is lucky for P1 place only.
no any interview class jointed.
Some DSS will take-out kid who jointed interview class training.

So, do you mean your son has joined not much extra-curriculum activities during K1, K2 and no cert or prizes. So, do u mean just train up interview by yourself and no interview class joined. Then, it really seems that not much preparation for P1 DSS/private school.

Yes, you are correct,

But I prepared and educated my kid 5 yrs for different language, manner, thinking, bedding story, general and common sense for news. Give up all chinese TV programs, no chinese speaking, no private time.

No cert, no prize, no interview class
just Estate KG school cert and home activity photo only.

Lucky, all DSS/private given offer.

I think my son interview performance OK.

I received the message from Master,
my kid is best and smart.
He can answer and discuss the news with points in English.

Now, he is interested in Japanese, Francais and Maths for P5/6.

Sorry, just want to know does your son using english in interview? Otherwise, how come he communicate in chinese?

And if you have not joined those activites or extra-curriculum activities, then how many things that you can write in the portfolio.

Listed is advantage:-
If kid speaks more language.
Recommand letter from some good persons. eg. "Father" & "Sister"
Good Manner is proved by "Father" & "Sister".
Good communication with interviewer.
My kid will say "I am sorry, I am not understanding or I do not know." when he has no idea.
He is never "Dead Air" during interview.

My son can communicate in some language.
Home activity is counted.
He has a photo in "snow"
He answer the feeling with "snow"
He has a photo of "dancing show for elderly home"
He answer the elderly feeling and he is happy in dancing.

But does your son interview in english or chinese and whether your school in same district or not with your home. Any advantage for DSS/Private in the same district. And any advantage or disadvantage ot big boy and girl

All is interviewed in English.
If kid can speak Japanese & France as well.
The district is not important for school.
If your kid is smart & good, school is selected without other conditions.
Big boy is advantage.

So, i have heard that the interview be done in either english or chinese. Even if choose chinese, the teacher will ask you in english.

But if interview in English, if the student can't understand, will the teacher repeat in english or chinese.

And u must be so confident in the children to interview in English. I just think that those who choose in English for interview be studied in Kinder only teaching English & Mandarin. Am I correct.

Is there really marks added to interview purely in English? I wonder the teacher also want to test children chinese ability no matter private/DSS

I think, it is no marks added to interview purely in English.
Most family can train the good english to kid, but the other points are important too.
It is manner, thinking, common sense.

Interviewer will say English first, if no respond, then PTH, if no respond again, cantoonese.
If no respond, then......
Interviewer will repeat the question in other language, kid can answer in english, pth, cantoonese or other language.
If kid answer is good and points, the language is not important. His thinking & manner is more important.
Her parent told me "all answer in cantoonese & pth only", her kid is admitted.
Kids is smart and good mannner.
The language is OK in school not outstanding.
