'ed' added to the end of a verb in past tense, is a syllable or not? My son's teacher said it is. I wonder. Anyone know?

I think what your son's teacher refers applies only to verbs ending with a "t" or "d" as follows:
-ted as in wanted, enchanted, etc
-ded as in decided, headed, etc
In other situations, "ed" will nevertheless give rise to a sound (not necessarily a syllable as defined in the dictionary). For instance,
"d" sound as in remembered, climbed, called, etc
"t" sound as in helped, asked, etc
Actually, one can self learn these pronunciations through phonetic symbols (I did it by myself when I was in F.1).

thank you very much.
It is a pity that this is a listening test and my son can't remember the vocab.
