Any chance for 2nd round interview? Is it necessary to wait for all those on wait list are offered places?
作者: highfive 時間: 10-3-5 20:39
We are on the CWBS waitlist but received an offer today from SJS. We will decline it though mainly because of the location.

Are your kids studying at Abacus?
作者: highfive 時間: 10-3-6 08:59
No, he was in a non-ESF kindergarten. He's now studying at AISHK (their school year started in January).

Parents,
If you are really want to study in ESF school, I would strongly suggest you to accept this offer. I would say the chance of having an offer from CWB is very slim.
I have the same experience in last year, finally, we accepted the offer and moved to Shatin.
作者: highfive 時間: 10-3-9 15:34
We have declined the offer because our son is already studying at AISHK now so CWBS is really only going to be a backup in case we want to switch in August. It won't be a big deal if we don't get an offer in the end.
I agree parents should take the offer though if ESF is their #1 choice.

Hello highfive
Did your kid attend an interview at CWBS before they put him/her on the waiting list?
We were told the interview was for 1 of the 12 waitlist places before we even attended it, meaning if he passes the interview, he would officially be put on that relatively short waitlist. They have 120 available seats but offered 12 more interviews for those waitlist places. Our child passed the interview.

Hello highfive
Is it difficult to pass the interview? We were told that if the kids pass the interview, they are admitted into SJS - i.e. no need for further interviews for those who had their inter ...
I don't know exactly what goes on during the interview as they don't interview parents, but I don't think it's difficult to pass. As far as I know they just want to make sure the child can understand and speak proper English (by their age standard). Because our child already passed the CWBS interview we were offered the SJS place directly without the need for another interview.

Dear highfive,
It is great that you got offers both from CWBS and SJS! You said that you decline CWBS. How about SJS?
How did you consider to choose a right one from AISHK, CWBS and SJS.

No, we only got an offer for SJS, on condition that we will commit to stay at SJS for at least one year before requesting to transfer back to CWBS (we can still go to CWBS if a place becomes available before August), but we have decided to decline the SJS offer and remain on CWBS' waitlist. Main reason is that our child is already studying at AISHK right now and an ESF place is now only a backup plan in case we want to switch in August. SJS is also geographically not convenient for us.
AISHK has a different school calendar than all other schools and their school year starts in January. We took their offer simply because it was the first we received and so far we are happy with our decision. We don't want to switch the child from one school to another unless absolutely necessary, so it's more than likely that we will stay at AISHK.

Hello highfive
We were told that parents would be interviewed by one of the principals, while waiting for their kids. Did you accept the SJS offer?
No, there was no interview for the parents. We just sat in the waiting room with the other parents.
We declined the SJS offer. See my previous post for the reasoning.

I think SJS is a good school. According to other parents with kids in higher grade, they commented that the way of teaching and management of the school are different from previous years. The new principal is managing the school much tighter and the teachers are very much hard working.
I have no regret to move.

UNOTE
....one of the principals?.... but there is only one principal in SJS. So definitely your information is misleading. Parents are not interviewed. You might be invited to a room to talk to one of their mangement staff/teachers to confirm some family backgound etc but it is not an interview or anything close to it.
As someone has already said SJS is a good school. The new prinicipal is good and the vice principal, Ms Dustan is definitely a valuable asset there.

I thought ESF allocation is based on catchment area. From reading the thread, it seems that some parents are offered a place in SJS if CWBS has no space? Can you explain your situation, e.g. Cat 1 or 2, ESF kinder/not?
Does the SJS offer on the condition that you move to Shatin? Can you continue to live in the CWBS catchment area if you go to SJS?
Anxious to hear back...
