Anyone applied for both ESF school & RC? ESF school is on waiting list and RC rejected. What will you do then? Let's discuss.

If I were you, I must accpet the RC offer at once.

If we're talking about a waitlist place after a successful interview (for a waitlist place) at an ESF school then I believe there's a very good chance you'll be offered a place eventually.

As far as I know they don't offer many waitlist places, usually 10% of the available seats (e.g. 120 total available seats at CWBS and 12 on waitlist).

It's a different story though if it's a waitlist place BEFORE being offered an interview. In that case the chance can't be very good.

If I were you, I would choose DC.  I've been to school visit to RC and hear a number of children speaking cantonese in the play area.

If I were you I will choose discovery college. The school tour of both RC and DC I also joined before my son admitted to DC. When I go to RC large number of kids communicated with cantonese and most of the children are chinese. In discovery college large number of students  are foreigner and they are communicated with english. The enviroment of the school is also better than RC. When I visited the school with my son. He was wellcome by his classmate with singing the songs. The year five students  bring him walk around the school and give him some explaination on the school facilities. The performance of the students is good.
I hope the above information can help you.

Whatever,

I think that both DC and RC are good schools and RC has a better Chinese curriculum. One of the main concerns is the location and the travelling time needed, and there is no drop-off point in front of DC. Students need to be escorted by teachers and walk about 5-10 min across the park, it would be a problem in bad weather.

Regarding RC students' language used out of the classroom, I think English will become more common at the lower primary because more and more K1 kids come from the real international schools.

If you would consider the growing importance of Chinese now and in the future, then go to RC. In fact, I don't always hear students use Cantonese in the school area. I only hear a minority of students use Chinese when talking to their parents. Even they do, they switch to English and can speak near-native English when talking to their school mates.
But of course, if you just consider English, then DC is a good choice as it gives a totally English immersed environment.

There's no offer yet. The interview we had was only for a waitlist place, which my son passed successfully. We were told that they offered 12 such waitlist places so we are one of those 12 (outside the available 120 seats). I believe there's a pretty good chance that we will be offered a place in the coming months because I imagine a 10% movement rate in the original 120 seats would be quite normal.

In any case, it's not very likely that we will take the offer (if there will be one) in the end as we are so far quite happy with his study at AISHK (school has started for 2 weeks).
