請問有無人自己教孩子，
然後約5歲多考Starter試?

我現在買了一本Fun for Starters
準備日後為K2的孩子教授一下，
足夠應付這個幾開試嗎?

煩請有這方面經驗的家長提點一下！

你最好買埋past paper同佢做,把握大好多!

I didn't use any flash card.  I only download the pass paper from the Cambridge website as below:

I am a working mammy. I had used 1.5 months to train up my son and it was quite rush.  If possible, you should start to train your child earlier by using at least 3 months to get prepare. Otherwise, you will be very busy........

I let my son spell 5 vocab in the first week and then add more...........  It is also important to explain the meaning to him.

My son had attended the phonic course at YWCA for 9 months.  The phonic course was useful and helped him a lot on spelling of vocab.

BTW, need to buy some more exercises / past paers?

It seems so many vocabs there (over 100?) ... may take a long time to let them remember =(
I think "spelling" is a problem for a K2 kid...

Dear LoveBear

首先切记不要强迫串字，因为會令小朋友抗拒。
以下是我個人心得，希望帮到你:

1)透過遊戲學習， eg. 玩車時，我會拿起一架車说car,再串出C-A-R三个字母，並要求小朋友跟著串，重覆一两次。

2)当學識CAR，我會教类似生字，e.g.CAT...EAT..AT..EAR...NEAR
TREE..THREE..FREE..SEE..BEE

3)由浅入深,令佢有满足感，稱讚鼓勵，令佢有自信心。

4)利用每個机會，eg., 搭車時，一起数印有Street的街道牌。到餐廳,叫佢自己点餐牌上印有egg;rice;duck;milk...的食物。

5)經常往圖書館閱讀，从中學會很多字

6)Incentive Scheme, 串得好奖贴纸.識串20个字奖一个贴纸....

但想請問在整個試中, 串字的比重算大嗎? 我看過passpaper.... 好像是將相關字母隨機列出, 要小朋友串成正確的生字....
可能最令我擔心的是這方面, 所以多了點問題, 不好意思! ^^

考试分3 parts，其中一part是串字,看围串字(重组字母)

另外一part是需要自己睇题目，所以最好必须明日白生字的意思。

最初我都像你这样擔心，因为他们只是一个五岁的小孩，但不要低估他们的能力。

若他们懂得串字及的明白意思。我相信其他已不是大问题。

What purpose of test for kids?
For P1 places, please use flyer cert.
For testing the english level of kids, please test in K3 with good hand writing.

Starter for K2 kids is normal for kids studying in chinese or estate's kg.
For child study in eng kg, child will take exams
K2 is mover and K3 is flyer

My kids in estate's k3 and pass movers with high mark.
I never take any course or execrise for him.
My family is cantonese speaking at home.
My maid is chinese speaker.
He study by himself and he love english.
No course or training for exam.

I think that stater, mover & flyer can self study and download the sylb & test paper from BC.

Now, he is P1 students, he will take KET in March by his request.
Just use ONE execrise book,$90, from bookstore before examination.

He can done himself.

My kid is used for testing his ability and compared with his classmate.
Not for P.1 place.

He take first exam after the P.1 place confirmed.

除左自己教，你地可以考慮下俾小朋友參加一些補習中心的mock exam(雞精班)。我幫囝囝報了六堂mock exam，專操past paper,亦有鬼佬同佢練speaking，費用約$2000左右，俾小朋友習慣考試模式。個人認為，對慢熱/害羞小朋友有幫助。

我囝囝剛收到starter cert，成績好好。

(ps.我唔係想幫間補習中心宣傳，只是想講下這也是方法之一，唔好問我中心是那間，周圍都有類似的課程，pm我都不會答的，請見諒。)

Can anyone tell me how many version of the past paper for starters / movers?

As I wonder to teach my girl to take the exam in this year, I hope can let her do more practise before take the exam.

How long to preapre the starters? As I found that after Sept 2010, the exam fee will increase. My girl is K2 and will promote to K3 this year. Does it enought to preare exam for 2 months (end of Aug)????

Your kid must be a gifted child for completing Movers all by himself.

By the way, what I saw when i sent my kid to take the exam in June and on last Sunday was that most of those students attempting Movers seemed already in Primary Schools (cause they were very tall.) Perhaps all of those are below average???

I called a few training schools. They say Starters is recommended for primary 1 kids, not below. So the primary kids are not below average. Your kids are above average. Mine is not so I'll have to wait. May be I will do Trinity first cause that matches his ability.
