學校收咗我對仔了, 留位費都交咗. 但其實對呢間學校認知唔太多, 只不斷聽人講幾好, 你地有咩心得啊?

are you thinking about going linglian or are you thinking about other offers as well?
my girl is already accepted by mingwai, and i may prefer mingwai to linglian because of school location.
by the way, linglian primary seems less stress on accademic, that is why i feel hesitate.

We'll accept lingnam offer, as thinking it's N1 only, could apply other interviews for K1 later on. But still, want to get some comments from other moms about this school besides just saying"good".

Actually my son didn't perform well in the interview either. He refused to sit down during interview. He cannot speak yet so he didn't say anything in front of the teacher. But he could match the color right. He also said byebye to the principal at the end. I also don't understand why they would accept my son...
Now I'm afraid my son will be too much behind other kids because he's very small (in terms of weight and height and also development)... Does anyone know how 靈糧堂's curriculum will be like for K1? What do they expect from a K1 student?

My son (25 mths old) got offer from both Lingnan N1 (AM Class) and KCS N1 (PM Class). I’m still struggling to put him in Lingnan or KCS. As I lived in Siu Sai Wan (小西灣), the campus of Lingnan is very inconvenient and really far away to my home when compare to KCS. However, heard that Lingnan’s Kindergarten have better chance for being accepted by other good primary school. Though KCS is not close to my home too, but a least closer and more convenient than Lingnan. Guess I need to make final decision in coming April as need to settle the registration/books/school bus fee at that time. Which school shall I pick? Any suggestion?

My twins (23 months old) got accepted by Lingnan N1 (PM class) but rejected by KCS. I have only heard good things about Lingnan - that teachers are super caring and nice and the kids are super happy. The only draw back for me is the location. The path to the school is very narrow. I'll also apply to 2 other schools (interviews in March) so let's see if the kids have other choices. In any case, this is N1 so we have more chances in K1 for other schools.

HI sh_yip, I live in the Central-West district. Lingnan is not close for me but not too far either. I struggle between having my kids enjoy school and the curriculum being too simple. I hear the same thing with Ling Liang Tong kindie. My hope and dream is they will get into Sing Kung Wui kindie next year so I worry they will get too "hair" in nursery. At least you have 1 more option with So Jit. Your thoughts?

Agreed, it’s hard to balance between happy school life and curriculum.
May I know which other 2 nursery interview you will have in March?
I have one in March too (明我幼兒園), however, heard that school is very tough (many homework).
聖公會/靈糧堂/聖瑪嘉利大 is on my target list for kindergarten, sure will apply K1 for 2011 school term.

Twinsmummy – SPN is good but competition is very keen. May I know your twins are girl or boy? I did not consider SPN as St. Paul Convent is a primary/secondary school for girl only. As far as I know there will be limited boy studying in SPN (say 4 boys or less per class, most of the boys will quit after PN or K1 to join other kinder). Victoria is on my target list at first, but after thorough discussion with my husband, we decided to let it go. As comments for Victoria is not positive recently, e.g. their teachers are not caring, the school is very commercial, primary allocation is not as good as before, etc.). Anyway, good luck to your interview for SPN & Victoria. I’m still very hectic about to pick Lingnan or KCS for my son. Both school have their advantage and disadvantage.

Could you pls explain further why your doctor highly recommend Lingnan Kindergarten?
E.g. Caring teachers, happy school life, bright primary route (good P1 allocation).
Frankly, his reputation is good enough to put his kids to 聖保羅男女小學.

我報咗名, 但個家長會似乎係比新生
+ 舊生的家長一同參加, 原來”嶺南小學”係私立, 學費要$30,000+(一年).
而且好多人都話”嶺南”係讀得開心, 但程度比較淺, 因為主要以廣東話教學, 真係有好有唔好。

They suggested not to go with kids for the talk (no playing area will open on that day).

I'll go to the talk on Saturday. They suggest not to bring kids.
My doctor said it's a very happy school. He was comparing Lingnan with 寶山. He decided to send his kids to Lingnan rather than 寶山 because it's much cheaper. But I think he was just joking. I'm sure cost is not an issue for him at all. He drives rolls royce!!! But he didn't explain in detail why he chose Lingnan.

I see. Seems many people agreed that Lingnan is a happy school. However, I'm a bit worries of their programme is too simple and relax. For sure our kids need to study very hard if change to some famous P1 school.

我聽咗3月6日個talk, 覺得陸博士講得幾好(不過好長氣), 亦更加肯定嶺南幼兒/幼稚園係以”廣東話/開心”教學為大前題。 我想仔仔讀得開心, 但真係有d担心佢地係語言上的競爭力。 陸博士話5歲前應以母語教學, 但有好多research都話0-6歲係幼嬰的語言黃金期, 5歲後先谷英文會唔會太遲呢? 有d家庭可以請私人 net教英文更係無問題啦, 但唔係人人可以負擔到嗎?
仲有似乎大部份佢地的幼稚園畢業生都係升去其他小學, 雖然陸博士話今年有52個K3學生交咗留位費, 但肯定好多都係等派位結果而買定個保險. 真係都唔知讀唔讀嶺南好呢?

Sorry for my late reply. Have been very busy at work. Good luck with your son's interview this month also! My twins are girls so they will apply for interview at SPN. Competition will be strong so we are not hoping they will get an interview or get accepted (need 2 of the 60 spots....like winning lottery).
I also went to the talk last Saturday. It was good to understand the school better. I agree the teachers are very polite, professional and caring. I am concern about their curriculum being too easy (naturally, happy kids). They said there's only 1 class per grade which means most of the 140kids starting in Nursery will be gone by K3. 1 class is 20 or less!!!! Where did all the students go? I heard St Paul's co ed does take Lingnan kids. Is that true?

我都有去星期六個talk, 陸博士個教學理念係有距嘅道理, 但都好視乎每對父母想用咩方法培育自己子女; 我同C6 都唔想咁早就谷到對仔咁辛苦, 2歲幾人仔已經咁多工課, 我地想距响開心歡樂嘅環境習慣返學嘅形式, 加上N1我覺得真係集中主力俾小朋友學自理同去習慣群體生活, 而用母語去教學亦係我想嘅, 因為我個兩個仔依家徧向講英文, 第一年我想距地轉番"台"先...咁當然我都有擔心距地程度比較淺, 所以我會繼續報其他幼稚園in K1, 入到心儀嘅我就唔會晌嶺南讀幼稚園咁囉 ~
題外話, 當我聽陸博士講說時我都幾意外, 意外嘅係距個人表達同組織技巧, 有D亂, 講下呢度突然跳去個度, 不過我朋友話唔係距負責教米得囉 ~ 同埋我有D擔心距地嘅英文教學, 個英文主任就好純正英國口音, 但距地有個英文老師係印度人, D英文有好重嘅印度口音, 呢一方面我好有保留 ~

Hi Twinboys, we had the same concern. I asked the teacher if one of the parents can remain talking in English to the kids and she said NO. EVERYONE needs to switch channel. Hmmmm, will try try lah. Honestly, by the time they interview for K1, they would have been in Lingnan for only 2-3 months. Do you think that will be enough for them to be more fluent in Cantonese?
I remember your sons got into So Jit. Will you choose that school?

Hello twinsmummy, my boys didn't get accept by So Chit...as honestly they didn't perform well during the interview; but will try again for K1. I'm okay with LN now is because they'll focus in Cantonese during N1, as I said, my boys do understand Cantonese but tend to reply all in English. I'd like them to switch back their channel to Cantonese first, then pick up English again.
I do agree with Dr Luk that Cantonese is more difficult to learn compare to any other language...
I saw your reply in other post that LN accepted your twins to their PM class, right?

yes, my girls got accepted into the PM class as we applied too late so only PM class was available (silly mommy). I want them to take AM class naturally so the teacher advised me to apply for full-day class as AM class tends to stay full but not full-day. We still need to decide. Will you apply to any more schools?

Most likely I will put my son in their AM Class too (though I haven’t made the final decision to put him in KCS or Lingnan), hope they can be the classmates in coming Sept. My strategy is same as your, may be let them have happy school life in PN first, then apply others kinders for them in coming Sept. In term of P1 allocation, do you think Lingnan is better than KCS (蘇浙)?
BTW, where do you live (guess I did ask you before)?

Hello sh_yip, yes, I've confirmed to put the boys to LN PN as not interested in any more school interviews for the time being. Except for their curriculum, I've never heard of any negative comments about this schoo. Since curriculum is not my main concern for PN, therefore just let the boys to enjoy a happy school life first. More tough years will come anyway. About P1 allocation, I haven't done any research yet, but I guess for KCS also get chances to get into good school around North Point, Tin hau area as there're many famous school also. What are you considering between LN and KCS? I know KCS accepted your son also, then what's your concern? I was KCS alumni but didn't make any difference for my boys....too bad their performance was not good on interview day ~

Hello twinsmummy, I will not apply anymore PN school as I think LN is pretty good for the first year. As I said, will try other kinder later on ~

We like Lingnan's philosophy but we still have interview with Victoria and maybe SPN. If more choices, then we will need to decide. Right now, only 1 school accepted them (1 out of 2) so no choice lah....hahahahh

Both KCS & Lingnan have their own advantages.
I’m greedy mom.
My concerns as below :
-
I likes KCS (PM class) have mandarin & English in PN and a bit closer to my home (take 30mins from Siu Sai Wan to North Point by school bus).
-
Lingnan (AM class) seems have less explore on languages (mainly conducted by Cantonese) and very far away to my home (guess at least take 45mins by school bus).
-
It may be very hard to pick up Primary syllabus if the kinder school life is too free/relax, e.g Lingnan
-
Overheard that some famous Primary do like to pick Lingnan kids.
-
KCS don’t guarantee for K1/P1, but Lingnan does.
Though both of their primary are private school.
Hence, I need to choose in between happy school life or languages explore.
Would it be too silly to give up KCS as it’s quite hard for being accepted?
It’s really hard to make the final decision.

sh_yip, hummmm....on one hand I was a bit disappointed that KCS didn't admit my two kids, however, I was kind of thankful they didn't get accept because I have the same concern as yours, there's no guarantee to go to K1. That's why KCS kind of made the decision for me that no need to choose in between LN and KCS for N1.
Taking LN for N1 to me is a relief as at least I have a back up of their K1 in case my boys can't get into any other good kinder. If we chose KCS, our pressure would be bigger when having kinder interview later this year.
Travel time is an issue for you as well, at the end we don't want a 2 year old kid to travel that long time from home to school and vice versa. Do share with me your final decision !

真係對佢的回覆態度好失望, 打去校車公司問(梁經理)又唔覆電話, cut我線轉去call台.
我問幾時8月幾多號開學, 個老師話仲未決定, 以往係8月第1-2個星期開學, 如果8月唔搭校車, 要自己送好唔方便.
真係煩.

Hi all, my boy will also be attending the PN class in August...I have the same concern as you guys on the language before...however, i relieved so much after I talked to few mommies who have their kids studying in PN class in Lingnan now...they all highly recommend this school....all their kids are "勁開心"...the curriculum are very practical and related to daily life...teachers are very professional and caring as well... Two of them have got offer from 中環聖公會 K1 next year... Thus, I am happy for my boy to attend their for PN.

多口搭句嘴, 其實嶺南都收左我囡囡讀k1全日班, 不過我住九龍, 無校車到, 如果讀就返放學都要搵人帶過海再轉校車, 對小朋友真係幾辛苦(返放學都撞埋人地返放工), 所以應該唔讀喇. 你小朋友返pn咁細, 你要預左再乜頭暈身"興"要即刻接佢走, 要睇下自己係咪攪得掂, 咁遠水路去返半日又值唔值呢? 雖然學校係好, 不過咁細個都係近近地返學好d.

我都明嘅..
但呢間好似好多家長都讚好...而且又唔會太深太吃力..(我想我個女讀PN, K1-3 時係開開心心咁玩住學嘢, 而唔係辛辛苦苦咁日日做功課)...
而我都有搵屋企附近果啲...(但一係貴, 好壞就參半...另一間, 更貴..仲要個個鬧話唔好....)
而我個女係超細女 (07年尾出世(聖誕)), 舊年同佢去interview...除咗呢間之外, 其他都係in K1 (其實我想佢讀PN先, 我想轉佢做大女)....K1果啲都無間收...(一嚟我個女太細, 二嚟, 我個女唔肯答人嘢...)

我有幾個朋友分別讀tko既唔同學校comment都ok喎. 如果你係咪都做大女, pn讀咩都無乜所謂. 藍田既學校又有無試過? 我唔係話嶺南唔好, 佢係好, 不過係咪好到out weight咁遠既travel distance就要你自己決定.
我之前住深井, 試過同個女去西環返學(已經係巴士轉的士), 大人細路都辛苦所以先多口咁同你講. 如果無直接車到而你又堅持返嶺南, 不如考慮轉全日, 起碼worth the travel time, 我都係有朋友話佢全日班好先報.
希望你可以組得成校車喇

都有d擔心嶺南唔著重英文,不過佢都係得兩歲人仔,我同老公覺得開心學習,老師有愛心,同自理以及自律最緊要喇!

I called the school bus company last Friday again and finally got the answer.
Pick-up time at Siu Sai Wan is 8am and the kids will arrive school at 9am (30mins in advance). Hence, it takes 1 hour travel time from my home to school.
If I put my son in Lingnan AM class, sure need to tune his sleeping time much more earlier (he go to bed at 10pm and wake-up in between 8am-8.30am now).
Guess I need to wake him up at 7am, wash-up and have breakfast (milk), go down to wait for school-bus say at 7.50am.
Sure we are the 1st pick up point for Island East School-bus Line.
How long will it take from your home (Happy Valley) to LN by school bus?
Do you think 1 hour travel time is too long for a Age 2.5+ boy?
I recall the Lingnan School Bus is very small in size (黃色麵包車仔),
seems the Victoria’s shuttle-bus is much bigger (20 seaters with seat-belt for kids).
My main concern is long travel-time and the safety of such a small school-bus.
Moreover, very surprised that the school-bus company will charge full-month for Aug even only provide service for 2-weeks.
In other words, we need to bring our kids to school / back home by self arrangement in August.
Their campus is extremely inconvenient!!

My son will be attending the AM class...I'll put him on school bus as the school location is quite inconvenient...We live in Fortress Hill and hopefully the pick-up time won't be too early...Since there is no school bus sevice on the first three days and I believe my boy won't be ready to travel on school bus by himself, I am worrying on the transportation at the moment. It will be full of parents waiting for taxi when class finishes and there is parking space at all..I was there last Saturday for registration when traffic was very busy.
Regarding the safety of the school bus, I talked to few mommies who have their kids studying in LN... they told me the service is reliable and no concern on safety

I think it should be okay...the drivers would have been very experienced with the narrow road over there... Think it this way...This school has a long history...have you ever heard any car accident with their school buses so far?

chingching8888, I also live in Happy Valley. Hey, you'll start the school bus in August? The school suggested us to start in Sep, as firstly, school will start in mid Aug, but the school bus company will still charge you full for the month; secondly, don't expect our children could ride on the school bus by themselves once the school starts as they need some time to get used to the new enviournment. Besides, the teacher mentioned to us that in case the children keep on crying or want to leave, they may let the kids go early, if taking the school bus, they'll have to keep the child there and wait until the school bus comes...please consider and see if you'd like to schedule the school bus start in Sep !

sh_yip, what's your final decision? LN or KSC? I'm okay with the school bus as at leave there'll be teachers there when they arrive, also to make sure they get on the bus when school finishes. About safety, I believe no matter what kind of transportation we take will have this concern...to be honest, I feel more safe to put them on the school bus rather than having my helper to take them to school !
How's your son doing at Vic PG? My boys will quit after May, so hopefully will see you again at LN !!

BTW, the teacher also recommended us to start taking the school bus in Sep. But I'm still thinking, as I cannot accompany my boy to school for the whole Aug, and don't want to rely on the maid.

Hi Twinsboy08,
90% for Lingnan (AM).
Deadline for KCS registration is this Sat (13-15/5), I’m still struggling to pay for KCS too ($2,900) or just let it go.
Lingnan PN class will start on 9 Aug (Mon).
Mommy can stay with the kid for the 1st week (1 hour for 10-12 Aug, school hour on 13 Aug is subject to kids condition).
FYI, I enrolled school bus for my son in Aug.
I will bring him to school during the 1st week, hopefully will put him on school bus on 2nd week - 16 Aug.
It will be very trouble if my son get used to go to school with me/maid, hence I will try to put him on school bus (from home to school) during 2nd week.
The teachers suggest us to pick him up after school for few more days, so that he can settle-in slowly …..
I felt sorry to my son as he needs to travel long hours on school bus (total approx. 2 hrs everyday).
Hope he can take a nap on the school bus!!
My son seems quite enjoy the Victoria Playgroup.
He loves to stay with all the teachers there (Ms Wai, Ms Law, Ms Annette …).
He sing quite a lot at home now.
Hence, I will attend the Victoria Playgroup till June, may quit in July (sure need to pay for full month school fee but just for few lessons till mid-Jul, their summer holiday).
The challenge for me in coming 2 mths are :
-
put my son on bed a bit early, say in between 9pm – 9.30pm, so that he can wake up at 7am and prepare to school (wash up, milk, get dressed)
-
put my son on school bus asap
Did you arrange any extra activities for your twins currently?
e.g. playgroup.
I found that it’s quite hard to arrange playgroup for my son after the school life formally start in Aug.

Fatman123 – agreed.
We can’t accompany our kid to school for 3 weeks in Aug.
Hence, I enrolled school-bus for him in Aug too.
However, sure the travel time for your son is much shorter than mine.
Guess only take 20mins from Fortress Hill to Lingnan.
My son need to ride on school bus for 1 hour (from Siu Sai Wan to Lingnan).

Apart from Vic PG, my boys are attending another PG at Bambini Republic on Sat afternoon. They quite enjoy it and I believe I'll let them attend the class after they start their PN.
My mother in law said your son is very bright at Vic PG, such a smart boy. I hope our boys could get into the same class with your little one.

Are you very surprised about my decision on LN?
Based on my search in BK / friends / friends of friends about LN, all the comments are good except for the language exposure (mainly on Cantonese), e.g. teachers are very caring, super happy school life and good training on 德育.
For KCS, I like their language exposure on Mandarin.
However, I do overheard that the teachers of KCS local stream mainly stick to the old teaching method and quite pushy.
As I found that my son is lack of confident in some aspects, hence, I decided not to put him in a pushy school at this stage.
I’d like him to enjoy his school life (in order to built up his confident and initiatives of learning).
I’m not sure my decision for LN is right choice or not.
For sure I need to arrange playgroup with English + Mandarin for my son later.
Frankly,
I feel a bit pity to give up KCS.
Am I pick the right choice for my son?
I attended a trial class in “Bambini Republic” late last year (only 2 kids in the class).
However, my son can’t concentrate at all,
he was not willing to sit down for story/music time, he only wants to get out of the room and play with those toys.
I found that the young lady teacher seems don’t have experience on how to dealt with my son.
My son is attending Montessori Playgroup in CWB every Wed & Fri morning.
I’m afraid that he won’t be able to accommodate it after LN school term start in Aug.
Though they have PM class starts at 2pm, it’s too tough to ask such a little kid to attend school/playgroup from 9am till 4pm (have 1.5 hrs lunch/nap break in between).
For Victoria playgroup, my son isn’t that bright.
I do agreed that he is very sociable (he like talking very much), however, he is not brave enough to try those obstacle games/new challenge, e.g. he ask for hold our hand/finger and will cry badly if we are not offer for help.
Anyway, hope our boys could get into the same class in LN!!

Hello, my boy is also attending the PM class in August. I have written to the school for the AM class but seems that it is very little chance of getting in. My son currently goes to Victoria's playgroup and my plan is to let him stays there until July as he enjoys it very much.
I am now searching for some other English playgroup/class for him to join in August after he goes to LN. Any good suggestions please? My son tried Bambini Republic a year ago when they first established and I also found the teacher was not very experience then. Guess they must have improved during the year.

Thank for your information. As my husband & I still not sure how many days we could accompany my son to school in August, therefore we paid the school bus fee for August. The teacher also explained that only N1 will start in August, the school bus is not full, they can take care of the kids well.

As Lingnam is too far away from my house, we will give up the offer (am nursery class). For those interested, please contact the school directly.
