1. 你欣賞 SMC D mud嘢?

2. SMC 有冇谷學生?

3. 當初揀SMC的原因/理由, 有冇fulfill唔到/貨不對辦?

4. 如果再揀, 會唔會揀smc? if not, which　school you would choose?

學校相對較新，只好儘量從家長口中認識多ｄ. thanks for your advice in advance

Hi Laputa,

My boy in is P2 now. We chosen this school mainly for the foreign languages that it provides, less homework compared to traditional schools, and recommendation from a friend. So far we are happy with the school and we have definately made the right deicision.

1) 豐富英語環境、活動教學、中英數科目按學生能力分班(achieve effective learning)、現任家長對學校正面的評價

2) 相對其他學校唔算谷

3) 暫時未有

4) 仍會選 SMC，雖然我亦很喜歡 Pui Kiu，但距離我家太遠，當時沒有報考。

我囡囡現讀 p.2.

1. 你欣賞 SMC D mud嘢?
我本身的英語不好,在工作有影響,不希望囡囡步我後塵,所以一直心儀英文小學.SMC有很好的英語環境,除了課堂上用英語,小息,放學後,有同學仍用英語溝通.我囡囡不是 native,亦不是回流,我希望囡囡"痴"住常用英語的同學在他們身上學英語,用英語.

普通話愈來語愈重要,SMC 以普通話教中文,正合我心意.

另學生要多學一種外語 (Japanese, Spanish or French),對他們將來工作必有益無害.這些外語不是興趣班,而是課程的一部分,學生必要修讀,學校對學生成績有要求,會安排參加公開試.對某些家長來說,多學一種外語可能看作一種壓力,但我則認為是一個 advantage.

SMC 的 excellent 語言環境,我肯定在坊間逐樣補習都得不來.

在學校的 talent classes 內,學生會接觸多種 sports (e.g. cricket, fencing, basketball, volleyball, etc.),藝術 (e.g. Chinese opera, drawing, etc.), and some more.

學校與家長有充分溝通,一年有三次 parent-teacher meeting.如有特別需要,可隨時打去學校約見老師.

好處還很多,希望其他家長再分享給你知.

2. SMC 有冇谷學生?

暫時唔覺,相對傳統官津校,真的唔谷.

There are quite a lot of good schools.

SMC is suitable for parents / kids that would look for -
(1)  good English learning environment and exposure to 3rd language (Japanese, Spanish and French) in early years
(2)  less copying / writing homework but you have to get yourself prepared to assist them in (a) English reading journal - 15 books a term; (b) theme based English project - once a term; (c) Maths project - once a term and guiding in (d) Chinese reading - 40 books a term. Anyway, you would have more qualitative time with your kid.

The school has been accelerating its requirements on students align with their grades.  Hence, you won't feel your kids being left behind eventually with a relatively relaxed P1 comparing to traditional schools.

Same as many parents, we did make a good choice, i.e. picked SMC for my boy, who now is studying P.2.

His Eng, Chi (including Putonghua) & Math have great progress. But, to me, the most important is HE LOVES SCHOOL & ENJOY SCHOOL LIFE there. He's willing to learn and to read books. When he found some words he can't understand the meaning, he takes initative to check up dictation.

學習係漫長道路，本人覺得最基本要讓小孩愛上學習, learning to learn；而唔係比較邊間學校課程深、邊間學校功課多…etc。如果係咁，小孩ge學習道路就會好痛苦…何必呢！！

So far, we really feel happy to SMC and my son's learning attitude and progress.

其實,絕大部份之家長都如之前的家長所說的一樣,小學部每級約80人,學校雖然不是每一樣都盡善盡美,但每位家長都十分支持學校,

而每間學總有家長不滿意其作風,但於smc只屬極少數,而每位家長都樂意張意見提出給校方參考,在這很難找到不喜歡SMC的現有家長,有的都如其他學校一樣(轉了他校)
而我都很想知道真的有100%滿意的學校嗎?

而有些家長可能因為以面試時不愉快的情況來斷定學校的好與壞實屬不智,因學校是著重辦學,不是攪面試(做SHOW),教學質素才是決是關鍵,若校方將大量資源投放於面試中,損失的必然是學生

Thank you very much for all the sharing from mums and dads. It helps a lot. I was worrying about SMC putting too much effort in Eng but not Chinese. My preference are SMC and Pui Kiu. they all have their strength in difference area, so hard to choose.

They have to bring their own books for reading during class teacher's period or sometimes after lunch.  I find most of them like reading.

My boy was not so keen at the beginning but he loves reading now.

For Chinese book, the school recommends to finish 40 books in about 2 months time (of course, not the very thick one).  I found some of the kids could not finish 40.  We didn't finish in one term last year.

There is a designated format for the English reading journal.  They have to write down the name of the book, author, illustrator and publisher.  They will be asked different sets of questions - such as which character do you like most and why, which part of the story you don't like and rewrite that part, ask the characters a few questions...  They have also to state two new words learn from the book and make a sentence using the words.  I recalled for the 1st term last year, the teacher said this is on best efforts to finish 15 but no less than 10.

So, no worry as you will have the transition period.

中文 reading journal 的要求今年開始有了改變(從前只需記下中文書籍名稱40個，現在需要完成15篇 reading journals，問題設計跟 spiderlily 所提及的英文 reading journal 大致相同)，一年需要完成90份(15 x 2 subjects x 3 terms)，這數量對我來說是頗吃力的!

囝囝一向不抗拒閱讀，但不是手不離書的一類，我不知道大部份同學是否會在 recess or lunch time 閱讀書籍。他曾高興的向我展示由學校 library 借回來的一本 chapter book，他告訴我很多同學皆想借該書籍，我不肯定他是否真的看懂，但他會逐頁翻看，可能是多人爭看的原因，他會特別珍惜。

The school is progressing every year.  Don't know whether this is good for us (as parents, the kids are not concerned).

You may consider taking each Aesop's fales as a story.  They are usually 2-3 pages per story.  If the kid can read all the words and understand the meaning behind, they learn.

These together with chapters of the kid's version "三國演義 " made up our report last year.  15 book reports in 2 months time is not a small amount of work, particularly for working parents.

If both SMC & Pui Kiu are your perference, why don't apply these 2 schools for your kid and see the result?

兩間學校都有其強弱之處，反而本人覺得應該著重你小孩ge優點，看看此兩間學校，那間更貼近你小孩所需。

Right. My son also loves reading. He usually go to library during recess or designated time slot to find some interestings story books (no matter Eng or Chi) and borrow them.

He also used to check up dictionary when he found some difficult words.

See, it's a good practice for children to learn how to learn. Not bad

You boy is very self-motivated. My boy just comes to me and asks if he finds some words he does not know.

We have to work hard on all those reading journal after the exam. We didn't do any in last 2 weeks.

謝謝你的回覆,

當天面試, 因她不太識應,而且學校是座lift去interview,她有點怕,所以不太願意跟老師去,所以學校職員安排了第二輪才去interview,而在等待的時候,她亦開始不太開心,因她覺得自己做得不好,我們是沒有說她什麼不對或不好,只是說沒緊要最重要是開心跟老師去玩及參觀便可以了

其實我知再寫信去的機會是等如0,不過心內還是希望學校可給小囡多一次機會
但亦有朋友跟我說不如等升小二時才去考插班可能機會大一點,因可以好好把握小一這一年考好成績給學校看..

我現在還好猶疑.....

你可以今年照樣寫扣門信, 爭取睇下明年可唔可以有多一次面試機會, 始終差一年小朋友既表現又會唔同, 宜家有時間補好D佢既中英文語文能力, 將來INTERVIEW一定有用. 試過唔得小二可以再試考插班, 總有機會, 唔洗灰心.

haa... 佢係覺得查字典有趣。其實好多時都要用遊戲方式去教佢，令佢覺得學習係件趣事。好似 check up dictionary 咁，就要同佢玩比賽，睇下邊個 find out the meaning first。

你都試下同你仔仔邊玩邊教，都幾有趣兼促進親子關係。當然期間都有火火位，尤其我仔仔 d 大頭蝦 & 唔小心…

毅力我是不太有的,不過這是關乎小女的將來,怎麼也要為她努力一試,

雖然我身邊有些朋友及家人說只要小朋友自己努力及叻在什麼學校也是一樣不用煩，這說法當然是對,
但我覺得如小朋友自己努力及叻在加上學校教學模式好真的是會事半功倍,

當然現在說小朋友叻唔叻還言之過早...

小女現在有聖母收了及德望/優才waiting,還有一兩間學校未知,
原本早前已安排要再去一兩間學校interview不過最後放棄了,因心想已有聖母在手及德望waiting,不如努力向心
儀的小學出發,

真的好感謝你們在這裡的家長,用心給了我們很多議見及資料

其實我都覺得 SMC d 家長，個個都好好，好肯share 意見。家長ge本質亦反映小孩ge本質，從而睇到SMC 學生本質都幾好架…呵呵

When we attended the 2nd interview, Ms Lee (Vice Principal) said around 5-6 primary 6 students did not go to primary one due to further study abroad. Rest of them went to Primary one.
