Hi St Nic mama,

My kid is newly admitted by St Nic for N1 2010. St Nic is one of the ideal KGs we selected & I would like to get more inputs from you on school details, kindly share :

1. Small class scale : how many kids & teachers per class?

2. NET : how long will NET teaches the class daily?

3. Mandarin : how long is it? From NET also?

4. I like the show-&-tell session a lot which mentioned during school talk. How often is it & how does it be done? Do you find your kids have developed good presentation/expression skills?

5. Any after school activity for kids (e.g. extra-curriculum)? How much is it roughly?

6. Field-trip : how often is it?

7. Is english standard good in general?

8. What is your comment on school & any area can improve?

I am sorry for so many questions but I guess as a mum with kid studies in St. Nic., you can share me the best inputs.

Hi 6321 ~ 我都收到信收呀囡. 我 in 時老師話每班20人係小班教學喎. 全以外籍老師. 好似話連數學都係英文. 國話好似一星期二至三堂,每堂15分鍾倒. 如果想知詳細你可打去問吓. 國語應該唔係NET.

confirmed w/school NET is only 30-45mins daily. Class teacher is local teacher.

20 children, 2 class teachers, both local.

2. NET : how long will NET teaches the class daily?

~40min

3. Mandarin : how long is it? From NET also?

15min, 3 lessons a week.  The putonghua teacher is very good and experienced.

Everyday.  Children can bring toys, books or anything they like every week.  The NET will guide them to say something about it.

5. Any after school activity for kids (e.g. extra-curriculum)?  How much is it roughly?

$1300-$2100, depends on how many days you take a week.

6. Field-trip : how often is it?

For K1, there was only one school picnic in the 1st semester.

7. Is english standard good in general?

Very good.

8. What is your comment on school & any area can improve?

My concern is not only on English standard but a well-balanced programmes on total development of my child.  Much knowledge can be taught by parents in daily life.  If you speak good English to your child and do a lot quality reading with him, he'll probably be outstanding in the language, wherever in SN or other school.  So better choose a school that you agree with their educational philosophy and cooperate with the school so as to help your child build up a good foundation.
