I always go with my students. I could tell them how to manage the piano with various touch.

I would go with kids in order to improve their articulations and tell them what should pay attention to.

I don't go with my students simply because it doesn't work out. It's already hard enough to book the room that matches the student's time (as kids nowadays have so many commitments), and it's even harder to match the teacher's time. I believe the teacher has more than 1 student going for the exam at the same period of time, so how can she miss so many lessons to go with every single student to try out the piano? Besides, I'm already using a grand piano for teaching, so the kids are quite used to playing on a grand (though different grand pianos have different touches). When the students go for competitions, they won't have a chance to try out the piano anyway. They have to use their ability to adapt to different pianos quickly. However, if they feel more comfortable trying out the piano and getting to know the environment, they are encouraged to book the room without my accompany.

是老師主動提出陪阿仔去(可能阿仔第一次考試啦), 咁咪當轉地點上一堂! 我諗預習過一次, 阿仔正式考試時會定D!

如果家長要求而個時間我亦就到嘅話, 我都會陪同我d學生去考試琴室試琴...可以即場提點&改善...

I always ensure I go with the student at least 1 session at the actual examination room. I do mock exam in there. I teach on only grand pianos as well, but every grand is different, and the room size makes difference, so it's best to go together at least once to give the student confidence!

As for time matching, well, in my opinion that's part of my job. But my students typically book 2-3 sessions, so I ask them to book right away, so we manage to book the time that I am free, or the last student of the day, then I don't have to cancel so many other students.
Students and parents understand because there is always going to be "your" turn.. so the students who aren't taking exams this session are very accomodating in rescheduling with me.

SO to answer your question, yes, would be nice, but NOT absolutely a MUST if teacher cannot.
