Oh that's good. I have another mate here. I think most of the previous kindergarten students all came into the same class. They are all very happy to see all their friends there.

What is the name of your girl ? and where is her seat? My girl sit on the 2nd seat on the 2nd row (count from the entrance of the door) and her name is 何穎姿. The first day at school, during recess time, she has been mad playing with her friends that she forgot to go back to the classroom when the bell rang. When I go and picked her brother up I saw her playing in the playground.

Hope things will be better next week.

I went to school to observe their lunch time. They take their own lunch box and finish at their own desk. The class teacher was also there eating with them. Things are fine

It's quite funny as your daughter forget to go back to the classroom.  How did she response when she see you?

My daughter bring all the books to the school every day, how about your daughter?

What kind of ECA you choose for your daugher?  I join the English club for Kelly but I don't know the enrollment is succeeded or not.

Hi, Can you pm me your girl chinese name, I will ask my girl.

I did not join the English club as the other ECA for Gigi are all in English. BTW, the time slot of English time crash with the instrument class on Monday. I let her join stuff like 摺紙 , music instrument, dancing and etc. Can't exactly recall as I have not dropped it down.

Today, during V A class, they are making laterns.

Yes, for KCS their ECA is less, as they emphasis more on academic. I think I almost choose the same activities as yours.

I checked her student hand book and noticed that there will be dictation today for both English and Chinese. Chinese is 背默. Luckily she has no compliant when I went thru with her yesterday.

Sorry ! I asked my girl and she said there is no dictation at all. Look at the handbook and it said 背溫.

Oh! I am trying to figure out who she was. I think quite a no of children know me as I was there at one lunch time. I went there to see how's the lunch has been arranged. So I helped out a bit there. Gigi has told me where she sit, I will pay attention next time.

I think the food is okay as Gigi said she can finish them. Do you pack for Kelly or you order the lunch from school?

I asked Gigi and she was being picked. She also told me that they will need to memorized chapter 3 as well.

加油 ! Chapter 4 is even harder. I need to go for business trip next week, hope she can handle herself.

She has quite a few: English, Enopia Math, drawing, latin dance, choir, piano, roller skating. I have missed the deadline of the swimming course and will enrol her later

Gigi is doing fine with the dictation - she can do this by herself. During weekend, I start to give her Chinese dictation and she would be able to memorize them and write it down herself - though still with mistake.

That is good. That means she can intergrate into the new environment very quick. These few days are very busy. One one hand need to go thru the lesson with Gigi as test will begin after the National day and on the other time to give something to the son as well. The son starts to be naughty - always say no to you.

Yes. Quite right. They are very happy at school and always happy as well. I thought the homework of KCS is very heavy, but compare with my friend in other school, infact they are not. Gigi can go to sleep at about 9

Yes! The homework is not as heavy as I image, maybe the school arranges an transitional period for the children. The school seems to commence the dictation and test for the children now. I always remind Kelly she has to complete the homework and revision by herself. I am afraid we don't have enough time to complete the homework & revision if she waits for me in future as the homework may be increased.

Does Gigi join the charity day held by The Community Chest today? Kelly wears the casual wear to school today.

sorry for the late reply. Yes Gigi took part in the charity so she wore casual ware to schoool.

I talked with some of my other friends, it seems that their children could only go to sleep at bout 10:00pm and luckily Gigi can go to sleep at about 9:00pm Yes, the school start to commence the dictation now. The strategy that I now adopted is to let Gigi to attend all the ECA on weekday and I will start to learn all the test and dictation with her during weekend. Just to prepare things a bit ahead will make life easier.

Not much for Gigi too. She only had 2 this term and 2 for next term. ECA is weak in KCS

BTW, Chinese has so many dictation and test this week. I feel some pressure on it. Fortunately, I start to understand the pattern of the school. I must prepare those test / dictation according to the schedule in the hand book with Kelly in advance, otherwise, both of us will be suffered.

Gigi so far is doing fine. But I always prepare her things in advance that is why I usually do not have any ECA during weekend. Keep this up. They will soon get use to this.

Well, KCS is kinda one type of the local school. My girl adapt to the school quite well as she likes the school. Though they will have dictations quite frequently, she has no objection to the dictations and test and has become part of life. I think this is a good sign as KCS is famous to give a solid and good foundation to the child.

So far I think she can manage the thing well. The only thing I do not like KCS but not from her mouth is not much ECA

Yes, they only have them recently. KCS does not too emphasis on sports they push more on academic. What I will do for my kids is let her have some sports during weekend. I do not think my kid has a sport talent so that is ok for them. Hope this helps

我係自行派位到落空,不過呢個都係博吓抽唔抽到,所以都無失望,另外考左高主教,不過就waiting list, 要到6月先知道,不過我老公好中意KCS,想囝囝繼續係KCS 讀上去,我又唔係唔中意既,只不過想讀番天主教學校,因為囝囝領左洗,不過我地就隨緣啦,KCS 都好好,阿囝係K1至現在,佢都讀得好開心,我同老公都唔係太識講普通話,但係佢識講,識聽,有次仲同姑媽用普通話鬧交,好好笑呀!

Yes PTH is definately the strength. What I observe from my kid is she cares a lot of her study - she wants to get high mark, want to complete what the teacher says or wants. They are the 乖乖 type. She is happy in school and does not want to miss the school day.

Hi KCS parents, I wanted to let my kid study at KCS P1 next year mainly because I want him to be fluent in Mandarin. I don't need him to be top student in class (average is good enough). My question is would the teachers at KCS dislike kids with average academic marks? Honestly, both I and my husband are not those pushy parents. Thanks!

Hi Bobee

Had been quite busy recently and had not been able to reply to your question. I think the teacher is okay with the academic with average score. But you have to bear in mind that there will be 3 test and 3 exam in the whole year. But personally, if the kids are brought up in this type of environment they will have no pressure in coping with the test and exam.

Whether the kid will want to score high mark, the motive sometimes comes from the children and not parents. My girl would always like to get high mark in the class. She does not like being scored under 80% and would be glad if she could socre 90% or above. So sometimes she will automatic go for study before a test or exam. Of course I will need to help her out with the dictation and she will want me to sit besides her for revision as well.

I do not think teacher will dislike student with average score. But definately they will like the students to be polite and 遵師重道. so displince is very much emphasis but not straight.

Thanks GIPW for your detailed answer. My boy got alloted to a so called "very good" local school in the 1st round but I think KCS will be much better for his future development. I'm now facing a lot of pressure from grandparents and friends of giving up that spot and go for KCS. I think I will be "killed" if...anyway, as parents, I know I have to be firm on my belief. I hope I haven't choose the wrong school for my kid. BTW, the main reason you chose KCS instead of the gov't school was Mandarin? Or some other reasons?

My girls has about ( I think) 6 offers in hand at that time, the main criteria that I consider is the medium of instruction (Chinese esp Mandarin is super important in the coming future), traditional or active approach, history of the school (how many students can go to band 1) and school campus.  Of course, I would prefer a mixed school rather than a unisex school, but this is not a very strong belief as I will give way if I could really go into the top few girls' school.

So after screening all the offers in hand, I chose KCS is because
1) My girl could adapt traditional way of teaching.  I think this will help to build a good foundation. (I will try to do more stimulation thing after school.  She like the mind mapping game and she always asks me to play with her again)

2)Mandarin is very important.  IA lot of people told me (including a publisher ) told me that KCS has a good level of chinese standard.  I will need to focus on her English after school.  Having said so, their are currently using book 2 in P1, so they are 1 year higher in English standard than other normal gov't school.

I think I pretty much make up my mind but will see for another month or 2.

My girl is doing well. She got quite a good mark in the last 2 exams. English is taught by local teacher and oral class is by nat teacher. The school thinks it is easier for the students to understand if things are explained in chinese, esp for the grammar. Oral is by nat teacher. Their english book is 1 level higher. In P1, they are currently using P2 book.

English to my girl is not much of a problem. She dares to speak to anybody even the expat in my office. I send her to ECA class that is mainly conducted in English so she will have more opportunity to speak in English. I mainly focus on her English stuff. PTH is the job of the school.

My son is resisting Chinese and getting worse and worse. I am quite worried I will make the wrong decision forcing him to local school (but it's too late for me to send him to international school). Hopefully KCS can change his attitude towards Chinese.

You are most welcome. I think they will just get used to the environment very easily..... provided that they do not know they have a choice, then they will just stick with what they have. One thing very important that never say Chinese is hard in front of them , do not build their fear on Chinese. Give them encouragement

Hi, surprise surprise.  No time no talk la.  We are preparing for the test (this week) then we will have holiday.  Gigi is adapting good - though traditional school lots of tests then exam.  I am now training her self-learning ability.  As the higher level they go,the more they will need to depend on themselves.

Luckily, they can finish most of the homework at home so I will give her revision when I come back home.

Wah, your girl is going for competition again- what level is she at now?  she must be very  smart and good at music.  How is she coping with the school now ?

GIPW,

好高興睇到你既回覆啊! 你囡囡普通話咁好, 又響番KCS直升, 適應上應該無大問題吧!

我女小一響GH時, 學業上就好快適應, 但社交上就出咗D麻煩, 佢勁唔慣D同學成日郁D就話: "我唔同你玩!"..." 你行開啦, 邊個話同你玩啫!"...."你要同XXX玩, 咁我唔同你玩喇!"....云云....所以小一時成日都唔開心! (我仲想過好多次, 想同佢轉校添!) 幸好升到小二, 學校係將全級大兜亂咁分班 (話係用電腦隨機編班)....今年比較好彩, 分到班比較識得體諒, 接納 & 分享既小朋友....今年總算開心番D!

PIANO方面, 剛過去既十月畀佢考咗三級鋼琴試, 幸運地攞到DISTINTION....之後琴老師叫佢參加"第十六屆亞洲鋼琴公開比賽"...呢個比賽響聖誕期間進行咗初賽, 又幸運地入到決賽, 所以唻緊農曆新年(年初七)又要去比賽了!...完埋呢個比賽, 就專心練習校際音樂節...今年會彈GRADE 4既Sonatina in G, OP,168, NO.2....已經進入背譜階段, 另外老師亦都開始咗同佢逐句細執...希望阿女練得切老師所教既嘢吧!

GH逢星期二三四都有功課堂畀小朋友在校做功課....阿女都好識諗, 快手既話, 可以響學校做晒功課返唻; 有時慢既, 都做咗八九成...返唻做埋少少手尾, 所以花響學校功課方面既時間都唔算太多....通常每日五點前都可以完成晒所有功課的!

另外, 我地每星期都有中英文默書, 數學小測就玩突擊, 評估方面: 全年兩測兩考, 無分比重, 所以我當佢係四個考試咁唻溫....我地測驗D卷就會派番屋企畀家長睇, 但考試既卷就唔會派, 所以考試錯D乜, 老師有無扣錯分等等, 都不得而知啊!

Glad to see that your daughter has adpated well in the school now also has such a great achievement in piano.
In KCS, as usual Chinese Dictation is their usual homework. 3 test and 3 exam - I am now quite used to this so as Gigi. She now joined the school school swimming team and need to pratice twice a day so quite tiring. She also joined the school speech festival this year and had won 2 1st runner-up. They just finished the 2nd term test and now having their new year holiday. In mid March the 2nd term exam will start again.

三測三考真係幾惡啃的, 但三測三考都有個好處, 密密測密密考, D嘢就唔會堆埋一次過至溫, 其實都幾好的!

我地今日開學喇 (初八啟市, 哈哈), 下星期開始, D默書又會返番唻, 三月最後兩個星期會做下學期測驗....六月中就大考了!

噚日(初七)參加完個PIANO決賽, 雖然無獎, 但真係好開心, 因為見識到好多好認真練習, 認真比賽既小朋友, 仲見到好多國內參賽者彈琴既技巧添! 真的大開眼界呢!

你哋開學未呀?!

Ha KCS re-opens last Friday. What I like from them the exam syllabus will never be too long. Any other ECA you have taken ? Apart from piano?

"國內參賽者彈琴既技巧添! 真的大開眼界呢!" - they must be really super to win your applaude. I always think I should be the 虎媽媽 type approach or take it easy approach. But 虎媽媽 type approach is very 傷身，傷感情 and 勞氣。

原來你哋遲一日開學, 都好, 有多一日玩吓!

音樂方面, 上年十一月尾加多個CELLO畀佢, 阿SIR話下堂開始教二級嘢喎!...另外就一直KEEP住三科公文式! 其餘無乜特別喇!

佢哋讀傳統學校, 太鬆太緊都唔得, 我哋做阿媽既, 最緊要學識收放自如...不過呢樣係一個大學問唻, 真係邊學邊做咋!

Gigi has more other ECA after, about 13 all together after including Sunday. Might need to cut some out when she is in P3. Just spoke to the Piano teacher today. She told me that Gigi can try to take the level 2 exam next year. What a slow progress for her

嘩, 讀到傳統學校P.2, 仲可以KEEP住13樣ECA?????? 好厲害啊!....TT升上小一之後, 我第一時間CUT咗BALLET, 而家KEEP住7樣! 但逢星期二 & 星期日都FREE的...平日我留一日畀佢HEA吓, 做吓自己想做既嘢; WEEKEND點都留一日做FAMILY DAY啊!
