Similar to me. my son learns piano and english. but just drop drawing (coz it was in the afternoon).

My son joins the eng class of kids zone at Mei Foo. It's referred by other bk mamas and i found it's quite good. I'm now considering to enroll another trinity class for him.

I only enroll my son in a weekly English and PTH class in the morning. He just plays in the morning recently. I let him have more fun now as I know that when homework assignments and dictation come, he will be under pressure.

I'm Andrea's mom (I think Miss Chiu may call her Sze Hang). She's formerly KIC (Dorset am class).
Andrea loves Miss Chiu very much as she already knew her when she's K1.
As told, KV may start to distribute the homework this week or next week the latest. A hard life for both the kid and parent :p
Last week, they did:

2 Sep - classwork Chinese "1"
3 Sep - classwork Chinese "2"
4 Sep - classwork Chinese "3"

Good morning 2G parents,
I thought that my son, Alex, is in yellow group.
When I asked if he knew Alvin and Sze Hang, he nodded his head and was surprised that I knew the names of his classmates. = )
My son told me that they wrote Chinese 10 in class yesterday. Besides, he is very concerned about the alphabet card given out yesterday.
Any update from your children?

There are many chop chop on my son's alphabet card. However, he didn't tell me who chop the 'add oil' cartoon chops on it.....

The primary school hunt is so exhaustive. Well, for my daughter, I didn't do much because she got 25pts to enter Maryknoll Primary. This is good because she is shy and lack of confidence, she didn't get any offer from private schools. I only applied for SFA, Kowloon Tong Primary and DGJS for her. Total failure but good experience. She thought that she got accepted to Maryknoll by attending one of those interviews.
Does your son get any point for first round allocation? If you want to join the POA lottery, you should apply for more private schools as backup. However, you have to give up POA lottery 2nd round if you take the seat from DSS such as DBSPD and Ying Wah. Any school that you target for your son's primary admission? I am praying for my son to have all round development in K2 and K3 so that he will perform well at primary admission interviews.

Andrea told me that she wrote chinese "10" yesterday for classwork. Miss Au has talked about the alphabet card yesterday and she's got a sticker on it. Andrea also mentioned about the Maths class. She said they've revised on 1-10 (but don't know if it's true or not 
She also mentioned about watching cartoons with no sound (hahaha)...

As Andrea is my first child, I don't have much idea of what school to target for. Andrea is shy sometimes when she's in a new environment and I really can't guarantee she can perform well in interviews.
I also want her to have all-rounded development too. With afternoon school, it's not easy to plan her lessons.

I'm now seeking comment on SFA & Ying Wah. Just heard it's so tough to study in SFA. Do u have any idea?? And what should we get prepared for the interview? A big headache to me.

Are you old girl from MCS? Nice to meet you.
25 pts should be quite safe yet I was still so worried before the 1st round result was out in November last year. All applicants with 25 pts got admitted to Maryknoll Primary for 2009/2010. Even a few with 20 pts got in during the 1st round allocation. Keep praying for the best.
I really do not know how to help a child to be more outspoken because my daughter has given me headaches for not willing to speak up and to express herself. She could perform ballet on stage and also participate piano recital; however, she just does not speak up. Maybe KV made a shy person more timid.... Anyways, I do admit that KV provides such good training that their graduates have no problem adapt to primary school life (govt and govt aided primary schools).
Let's share more. = )

SFA is tough. P1 students use P2 English book. Maryknoll P1 stays with the P1 books which I think this is more normal. I like govt/govt aided primary schools because they will help their P1 pupils to adapt to primary schooling gradually. Whereas as famous private schools, they tend to push their pupils to achieve very high standard in a short period of time so as to affirm their academic standing. However, if your child is very smart and gets excellent results from KV, he/she will be fine at SFA. It really depends on your child's personality and learning attitude. Old saying, find the right school for your child.
I think we will have more to share during the K2 school year. K2 is difficult and stressful to parents. Be prepared. Relax and love your children more because it's a tough school year. I feel bad that I didn't pay much attention to my older daughter's emotion during her K2 schooling.

I agree that, apart from sound academic development, we should not neglect our children's emotion. Learning with happiness and confidence are also what we are looking for.
Andrea's mom, it would be really nice to get 25 points for MCS as it should be quite safe according to my friend's experience last year. Alvin should only get 15 marks for famous primary schools. Therefore, we would be very likely to try Private /DSS schools. Apart from Ying Wah and SFA, any other recommendations?

Well, yes, I'm an old girl of the primary section. 
Andrea likes this school as she was in there a number of times before. I keep worrying about the points thing as you know, things keep changing. At this moment, I'm not so sure if traditional school is good for my daughter. I will try also some of those private and DSS schools.
Andrea is that kind of a girl who always asks questions and her time span on work is not very long. Sometimes she's shy and lack confidence and sometimes not. It really depends on her mood 
. She likes performing on the stage and she's also doing fine on her PTH recital. She did have a good comment from her teacher in her Show & Tell. But if you ask her to perform in front of the relatives or friends, she will definitely say NO
One of the things that I'm very much concern is that my daughter always rush towards her work. She just want to get things done quickly, without thinking about the quality, so that she could do some other things she likes.
How about your kids?
Btw, what is SFA? A friend of mine has attended a P1 talk from Ying Wah and said it was really impressive. I've very limited information about primary schools. Are there any recommendation for girls too?

I think you should consider apply Good Hope for your daughter.

Yes, I will also consider GHS but there are some comments that it is not as good these few years.
Andrea said she knows Alex. She told me that some of her classmates changed their seats (as they were noisy wor...). But she said she still remains at her own seat. Yesterday, they learnt a new Chinese poem:
幼稚園裡排排坐,

讀書寫字同遊戲,
樣樣學來樂趣多.
She was so happy when she read it out loudly 
Miss Chiu said there will be homework book distributed today.

Hi all,
Have any of your kids mentioned about the Chinese words' card? I learnt from parents of other classes that they've taught one or two of them already. When I asked Andrea, she said no. I pretend to trust her of course but just want to check with you (in case Andrea keep day-dreaming in class):tongue:
Andrea likes memorising her classmates' names and knows where they sit but she's always careless (actually not concentrating) when working on her own

Let me ask Alex about the Chinese cards tonight then. My son didn't tell me much about school. He doesn't even know the Chinese song/poem as mentioned by your daughter. It seems that he is not interested in going to school. Maybe he misses his buddy in 1G. I also feel that maybe he get bored in class as KV focuses on teaching and writing and he doesn't have much chance to go out to play in the playground and tree house.
Ah, he told me that Andrea was quite talkative in class. He also said that he knew Herrick. I hope that he would get to know more friends in 2G so that he will like going to school soon.

Hi Felicia,
I’ve talked with Miss Chiu before lesson started today.
She said she hasn’t started anything new from K2 syllabus yet.
They will keep on revising those K1 materials + sth new next week.
I’ve told Miss Chiu before about my daughter’s grasping problem with the pencil but she told me today that she’s doing ok.
She also said Andrea could concentrate in class but would sometimes jealous when Miss Chiu was taking care of others (she’s attention seeking I believe).
Andrea is quite an active person with enthusiasm and would asks questions when the teacher is doing sth which sounds interesting to her. Sometimes she would report to the teacher when somebody did sth wrong too That's why she seems to be quite talkative (if compared with the shy guys) . She told me a list of her classmates but I always forget about them.
I hope that she will keep on improving herself in class la...

I feel bad to see my son write so many words for homework. My older daughter kept telling my son that the homework would suddenly become 3 pieces a day. Heavy load of homework at KV was probably a nightmare to my daughter.

Chinese: they learnt "學" yesterday, it will be "室" today
English: they revised "C". They talked about cat, cow, cake and circle
Maths: they counted and chanted
Others: they sang some songs yesterday like "good afternoon", "goodbye", "吹一吹吹個大波波"... She mentioned Miss Chiu told the class that there will be craft work soon.
Btw, Andrea wrote on a piece of paper after she finished her homework. She told me that Miss Chiu asked the students to write on a piece of paper and bring back to school for the teacher to put a chop-chop??? Sounds strange but I think Miss Chiu or Miss Au want them to practice writing at home. Andrea keeps writing from 1-100 and chinese words. Did any of your kids mention so??

Andrea's seating plan might not be exactly as the actual one. There might be deviations.
I didn't force Andrea in memorising the names and to tell me but sometimes, she keeps talking about her classmates. And sometimes, we "play games" such as talking about her classmates' names in exchange of our ex-schoolmates' or colleague's names.
According to my memory, Alvin should be sitting in the middle of Red group. As I could remember, in his group, there should be Chiu Pui Huen, Chloe, Yeung Ho Yan, a kid named "Toogy" (sorry if I got the name wrongly spelt ). I check the rest tonight.
According to my mom just now, Miss Chiu said the purpose is to let the kids practice their writing and drawing (it's also some kind of revision too), even thou it's not compulsory.

Cool! U can conclude the class seating plan. Herrick tells me Chole wore a pair of rain boots yesterday. He always pays attention to the girls
Correct, his last name is Leung and he takes nanny bus to home everyday. I want to let him get along with others so i only bring him to school. (Actually, it's a good excuse for a lazy full-time mom )

She would rather look around and see what others are doing.
That’s maybe the reason why she knows most of her classmates.
I’m not 100% sure if she got them right.
There might be some duplication (esp those with English names and Chinese names).

Andrea also told me that there is a Mandarin teacher showing up everyday last week. The teacher's name is Miss Yu (余老師). Did any of your kids tell you so

Dear all Ma Ma,
I am so busy so I have not visit BK recently. Anyway, I am feeling super happy about the chat of K2G are so activity.
My daughter who is Evita Cheung. She just told me plays at playground every day. 在操場上玩彩虹圈......... And no more thing she wants to share with me any more....... But I am sure that she is very enjoys her school life at KV.
Last night, they have 3 kind of homeworks already..... Add oil for every kids... They will be very work hard......

I saw the Chinese "Star" book yesterday. Andrea wrote 人, 工, 大, 口, 回. How about 田? They seem to be the words they wrote in the copy book recently. She told me that she needs to revise on those words. There are 2 sheets stuck in the next two pages with short sentences and a drawing at the bottom. She said Miss Chiu hasn't started on them yet. Is that right
Yes. They started 3-pages homework now. Andrea asked me why there are so many homework from school and why she needs to hand them all in the next day. I just told her because she grows older now and should be capable to learn more...

Hi all,
Andrea’s writing is terrible too. She just rushed to finish them all. As advised by her K1 teacher, I tried not to sit next to her to finish her homework. Andrea keeps bringing her own handwriting (on a piece of paper) and shows it to Miss Chiu these days but she doesn’t like to draw. It’s really a headache.
I try to keep encouraging her to draw more.
Ah, one more thing - - Andrea told me yesterday that Miss Chiu said they can’t bring any pencil cover “筆筒/筆蓋” anymore cos Nicky hurt herself/somebody with that yesterday.
Alvin’s mom -- there is no need to write anything on the Chinese star book. It’s just for the parent’s reference for their own revision with the kid. Andrea hasn’t mentioned to me about bringing any photos. I heard from parents of other classes that they just started Show and Tell. I better check with her if the photos are for sharing only or for Show and Tell.

Hi all,
I've checked with Andrea tonight. She told me that only those who received notice about the Show and Tell needs to bring photos to school.
Miss Chiu is teaching fast. She has taught up to page 17 today. 
Andrea said she did craft today. Girls make a girl's face and boys make boys . She said she did some classwork today (draw a line matching the picture with the word). She has also learnt a new nursury rhyme:
Ding Dong Bell
Puzzy's in the well
Who put her in?
Little Tommy put (??)
Who pulled her out?
???
Can any of your kid memorise them all?
There are so much to learn and do within a day... sigh...
One more thing -- about the Maths lesson. Did any of your kid mentioned what they did in the lesson so far?? Andrea said they only counted to 20. The reason why I ask is, as encouraged by Miss Chiu to do more writing and/or drawing, Andrea wrote 1-100 and 101-160 the other day and bring them for Miss Chiu to "review" (for a chop chop). She said Miss Chiu told her to write upto 60. She said it's enough wor

Oh, my son is asleep now and I have to wait till tomorrow night to ask him about the rhymes and the numbering. I think that my son will not tell me much about the number work though. He seldom talks about school matters in detail. Alex told me that he did the show & tell today. We got the notice about the show & tell last week, that's why I got the photos for his presentation. I was very tired especially after she has started K2. I'm a working mom. After I return from work, I not only need to check her homework, I also need to do revision with her (KV's and others outside school) even thou my mom helped me a lot. Sometimes, I feel quite exhausted
Andrea hasn't got the Show & Tell notice. How much time we have for preparation?
From what Andrea told me, they were quite busy at school. They didn't even have enough time for a tea break sometimes.

No la no la, don't turn crazy, take it easy. You are right, they are just kindergarten students.
My life is more 'dean'. My girl is in P1 and my boy in K2. I sat between their little writing tables every evening to monitor them doing their homework... as if working in the office. They like this set up and do homework next to each other under my supervision. My son's K2 homework is more straight forward and easy when compared to the P1 homework lei. So, take it easy.
Yup, I guess not much time to go out and play at recess that made my son not keen on going to school.
About the show&tell, the teacher will give you notice about this and you probably will have a week time to prepare. I didn't really practise with my son, I just briefly told him what he could say about his growth from a baby to a K2 boy. I think the show&tell topic is not the same for some students.

Andrea is really a smart and talkative girl!
When she enters classroom, she submits the homework at once. And then she passes the another book for Miss Chiu's chop chop. She has written several pages!! Herrick always does these in slow motion
