Any sources to review IB results of ESF schools?
Many thanks!

ESF school never post the result on web. Less than 15% meet min. requirement of Oxbridge 39 points. for non-popular courses such as maths in 2009. More than 20% get below 30 points (unlikely to be accept by any unversity)

Hi Matthewdad, could you please share with us where you got your data from since ESF doesn't publish their results? Thanks.

This is a very detail piece of data. Where did you get this information? As far as I know, most ESF do not dare to share their results with outsiders.

I am wondering why you are so friendly towards ESF now. I still remember you were once very hostile towards ESF and their parents. So what changed you?

RCHK:

"Congratulations to our first IB graduates on their stellar performance in the May examination session.

TheRCHK 2009 graduating class was our first cohort to complete the IBexaminations and they have performed admirably with many achievingresults beyond our high expectations. Our average Diploma score of 32is simply outstanding. The world average in 2008-09 is 29.

Over 25% of the cohort scored over 35 points. Three scholars scoring 40 and above.

Distinguishing RCHK is that 54% of our Diploma candidates achieved the highly acclaimed Bilingual Diploma."

Not sure if it's good.  Anyone knows how it compares to other IB schools in HK?

Sha Tin College (traditional Chinese: 沙田學院) is a secondary school in Hong Kong and a member of the English Schools Foundation – the largest independent schools organization in Asia. Established in 1982 as the Shatin Annex for students living in the New Territories, based in KGV School in Kowloon Tong and later relocating to Fo Tan in 1985,[2] the school follows the British system of I/GCSE and the International Baccalaureate Diploma. The school is currently led by Principal David Cottam. Enrollment stands at approximately 1,200 students, drawn mostly from the New Territories and Kowloon areas. Sha Tin College was until recently the youngest of the ESF secondary schools, being founded in 1982.
In 2008, the school achieved an average grade of 32 for the IB Diploma, with a pass rate of 90%.[1] Students graduating from Sha Tin College enrol in universities around the world, with predominant areas being Canada, the United Kingdom, the United States and Hong Kong.[3]

So the average scores of these 2 schools are the same.  Not bad for RCHK being a new school.

For the sake of comparison, the result of  public school (not top tier) in UK :

IB Results 2009 | Print |
This year’s IB results were, once again, quite superb with an average score of 38.75 points. This was the first year where all boys were taking the IB which makes the results all the more remarkable and will surely make us one of the top performing IB schools in the world. Some particularly impressive aspects of the results were: • Nine boys achieved the maximum score of 45 points, a score that was only achieved by seventy two students worldwide last year.

• Forty boys scored 42 points or above, placing them in the top 2.25% in the world.
• Sixty two boys scored 40 points or above, placing them in the top 5% in the world.
• Thirty six boys have obtained places at Oxford or Cambridge.
The results are a testament to all the hard work that the boys have put in and they should be congratulated.

HK still has a long way to go then.

But with "Thirty six boys have obtained places at Oxford or Cambridge", this doesn't sound like an average school.

The league chart cannot reflect the actual situation. I give you another example. A school called Charterhouse which rank 76 (but it is top 10 in England) in the chart with admission rate to Oxbridge is 13%

I agreed your calculation but I think (not sure??) they should take into consideration of other factors which is not entirely on acedemic performance. e.g Wa Yan is much better than DBS/LSC in terms of acedemic performance but DBS/LSC is always considered as traditional elite school in Kowloon.

I am thinking "Should we send kids to those higher standard schools in England at Grade 15 or 17  in order to have better chance to get into good university?"

I see.  But I wonder how many students of King's College School took IB in 2009.  36 of them manage to go to Oxbridge and it seems a lot.  I found in the school's website that there were 124 students  ...
