Hello, my son is going to start R1 in ICS kindergarden in the coming August.  He is born in December 2005, so he will be a big kid in the class.   I wonder whether he can apply local school P1 when finishing R2?  Any previous successful cases?

I believe ICS parents will help to answer if there is any successful case. :)

Theoritically, attending kindergarten is not one of the criteria to join the Primary One Admission Scheme
(http://www.edb.gov.hk/FileManager/EN/Content_1511/poa%20lft%202009%20e.pdf). You can obtain the form from the regional education office of EDB. Further infor can be obtained from http://www.edb.gov.hk/index.aspx?nodeID=1497&langno=1) or you can contact the School Places Allocation Section at 2832 7700 or 2832 774

But it seems that there is not much (if any) chinese teaching in R1 & R2, and the chinese standard of local P1 is quite high. it may be rather difficult for the kids to cope with.

Every child can apply for P1 at the appropriate age.
Each year, a lot of students switch from international schools to local P1.
Since it is kind of like a "lottery" thing and would never consider other things (like how many words he/she can read or write), you would definitely get a place.
But you may have to do the application by yourself since most international schools do not provide assistance with that.
