No, too big kids also failed! SPK did not accept kids born in 2005 this year. You can check another thread (under 幼稚園一覽 - 聖保祿幼稚園) that only kids born in Jan - Jun 2006 are accepted this year. That means kids born in end of the year have no hope at all, even try two years in SPK (small kid or big big kid still no chance!)

Hi MimiMum,

You got the point. My girl was born in Dec 2005. She did not get accepted last year as she was a very small BB. She is on waiting list this year but I think she did great in her interview (after attending pre-nursery school for almost a year).

Of course, I have no connection with SPK or recommendation letter. Too bad...! Really want to know their selection criteria.

those kids were only part of the 180 kids who got accepted this year. it doesn't mean none of the accepted kids were born in 2005...

Oh, there is only one case found! Yes, I totally agree that SPK is a good kindergarten. But just remind those parents have kids who born in end of the year, say Aug to Dec, beware of this important SPK selection criteria. Everyone knows that admission rate of SPK is low because lots of kids applied. For kids born in end of the year (no matter they are big big kids or small kids), their admission rate is even lower than others and this trend is very obviously in SPK! So, think carefully for your kids before apply!

20 out of 180 reported are "big kids", let hope the 21st report their admittance is a small kid/big big kid, if you extrapolate..... only 9 out of 180 kids are small kid or big big kid from the previous year (at most?!)

我個女那組15人, 有3個係超大B(即早一年的年尾出生), 始終係太多人申請,就算同樣係大B都唔一定可以入到, 好講運氣, 但唔試就真係無機會.

Hi, invitation,

Thank you for your information. I read from other posts and know that you have a daughter studying in SPK K2 now and your son has been accepted for K1 in 2009/10. The figures of big kids in your daughter's class reflected the SPK selection criteria 2 years ago, that can be a reference for us though the sampling size is also small. As the birth rate of 2004 (or end of 2003 for big kids in your daughter's class) was much lower than the birth rate of 2005 & 2006, admission to SPK was not as competitive as this year.

This year, owing to the high application number, SPK may already have enough right candidates by choosing from kids born in Jan to Jun 2006. That's why big kids born in end of 2005 or small kids born in 2006 will, if not all failed, have even lower successful rate than before. This is what we can observe from the information available here. Many parents commented that selection criteria of SPK are always a mystery to parents. May be you can share update information with us after the SPK briefing on 30/5. But just remind those parents who are interested in applying for SPK but their kids born in end of the year, they may be quite disappointed for such SPK selection trend and should get prepared for failure to avoid disappointment!

Of course, there is always a chance, but remember it's so slim.....Good luck!

I only consider if the parents do not try, they don't have any chance but I do not think about the disappointment that may caused.....

You are a very understanding person and know why I stress on this point. At the beginning, I hesitate to make such comments as I scared someone will think that I have "purpose" to make "bad comments" on SPK (you know some of the comments here can be very harsh!!!). But it is the beauty in bk that we can freely share our views / information.

I know quite a number of parents had tried 2 years in SPK and hope that their big big kids will be accepted by SPK in 2nd trial. Unfortunately, this strategy seemed not working this year. We can only say that 2005 year end kids are unlucky ones. As the birth rate goes up, it is expected that this selection criteria will probably continue. So, parents should bear in mind and can only accept such SPK selection criteria in mystery! Also, it seems that SPK parents this year are quiet and seldom share their information. It's really nice to talk to SPK parents like you. Hope more SPK parents can share update information here as many parents are eager to know more facts in SPK.

Last but not least, congratulate you and all parents whose kids got accepted by SPK!

聖保祿收生真係一個好有趣的題目

每年的一月至六月BB應係最黃金的階段, 如果偏離這段可能做成好大的差異, 即大大B或細細B。此段時期, 身體發展或理解成熟等, 較理想, 當然會有些出類的BB, 可以超越, 但學校先挑最好最理想的一群, 然後再在小學/中學升學時篩選, 這是保持學生質素的一種策略。

長路漫漫,而家係香港讀書, 真係好辛苦..係大人細路都辛苦, 間間學校都話"一體一藝", 還要考試評估. 我都好矛盾, 我想孩子的童年只係玩, 開開心心就夠, 但眼見別人的孩子樣樣皆能, 參加多項課外活動及興趣班, 自己的孩子唔參加, 好似會無兢爭力, 抱住人有我有的心態, 安排了興趣班比囡囡, 但覺有囡囡會辛苦, 唔可以無憂無慮咁玩.....我好似進退失據..

總之, 大家比心機, 天生我才必有用, 上到小學, 大B細B都一樣.

我只係好彩, 我兩個細路都係大b, 所以考spk係有d advantage. 呢幾年d仔都係一級有7-8位, K2會走一兩個(可能去咗st. Jospeh), 所以K2會有少量插班生.... 我知道有人keep住寫信比學校, 終於K2收咗佢囡囡做插班生.

this is not true, EVERYONE had a chance to interview, big or small b's going for spk (of course you will have to be within the age limit they specified).....

while for spn, only the CHOSEN ONEs have chance to interview

始終要讀多一年, 如果已經讀緊一間幾理想的幼園, 好難決定下一年又轉另一間, 講真間學校點好, 都係要睇家長的投放

另外, 超大b在年紀做成太大差異, 同學間相處亦有問題, 學校亦會考慮這個因素, 何不在小學中學階段再收一些優秀的校外生?

You are not the only one that has been optimistic and has been judged. Our 2nd daugther is baptised, we live in the neighbourhood, her sister study at and walks daily to SPC Primary. And to no avail. ! Our hearts are broken....

We want to share our story too but also felt that it may not be the best interest. These few days has been tough - especially hearing other "waitlisted" candidates receiving invitations or 2nd interviews. And the fact that our daugther having all the benefits of what others perceived as important was actually "refused" a spot to study in the same school that her sister study really makes me feel like puking.

5 mins to pass a judgement on the level of competence of the children is silly.

SPK is at least better than Victoria - running it like a business and like all businesses, it is only as good if you have place the right staff in key processes. My daugther which is born in Canada was interviewed by a PTH-speaking lady (we requested for interviewing with Cantonese/English class). And of cos my child will be ignoring them.

<sigh> This system of "fighting" for a spot is silly. really..

totally aggree with you and I can really feel your disappointment and 無奈.....

even though we are not in the game yet since our daughter is a 12/07 baby.....haha, you can tell what we are worrying about!!

若不是為了生計理由, we would really really not prefer to join this stupid game, having to go through all these harsh interview and selection process .....we will have our daughter go back to Aus. to study as she has Aus citizenship....

just joking, don't be upset, but the reason why they did not pick your girl is......your girl is a small girl!! JUN-born, to them is a small girl when you look at their selected list!!

the whole process makes me think....next time I should 擇日if I want to get pregnant again!!

According to the past record, we already know that SPK used to accept big big girl in the past years. As we discussed before, it seems that big big girls born in end of 2005 have not been accepted for K1 in 2009/10.

I totally share how upset you are! Your family and your daughter seems possess all criteria for admitting in SPK but still failed. It makes parents disapppointed even they tried hard to cope with SPK criteria, except month of birth of the kids that can't be controlled! Also, it's nothing to deal with kids' performance as the interview time is too short for assessment. What we can say it mainly deals with luck!

Some lucky bk parents reported that 2nd interviews for waitlisted candidiates have been done and completed last week. I think it probably prepare for potential vacancies after registration on 13 Jun. That means those who have not called for interview should think of their next options. Think positive, your younger daughter may still have better chance than others if vacancies exist in K2 as other SPK parents said. God bless you.

1. if SPCP is an Eng school or Cantonese school?
2. if it is Eng, then how's the transition from SPN/SPK? would it be difficult?
3. Does SPN/SPK offers Mandarin course?

I only know this school offers "one dragon"... what else is good about this school? I heard they are not academically strong (for primary/secondary school) like DGS or Maryknoll

我很明白你的心情, 我囡囡亦是waiting list, 當初SPK亦是我的dream school. 我寫了三封信給sister, 但音訊全無, 令我心情極之失落。但這幾個月對囡囡將會入讀的學校認識多了, 令我重拾心情, 有信心囡囡在這所學校亦能有很大的得著.

SPK可以直升小學無擬吸引, 但小學是私校. 如果小朋友在這三年內在其它學校得到良子的教育及家長好好的栽培, 亦同樣可以考取到同級或便佳的私立小學, 相反, 就算100%直升, 對一些成續較差的小朋友亦未必是好事, 而且本人比較喜歡基督教學校.

所以請你也不要失落, 你對囡囡花的心思及努力一定不會白費. 共勉之.
