My girl need to apply P1 on Sept at ESF-Clear Water Bay and I also want to apply RCHK. She's study at ESF (Abacus) for K1. But I am not sure need to prepare the portfolio or not? Becasue she is under Cat. 2, when I check with the Abacus, she suggest to me apply more another IS. So I am afraid very difficult to pass the interview. Any
parents can share the experience to me??

1. No need to make any profolio. But you need to make sure your kid can speak very fluent English, and be more active in answering question. ESF only test English ability so far.
2. At least apply ESF + RC / DC, so as a back-up.
3. Looking at what we are this year (my daughter is in Abacus K2, will go to CWBS this Sept), apply 1 - 2 more ISs is not a bad idea.

Normally will be group of 5 - 6 kids, reading story book by the accessor, and then ask question. Then they may let them do some drawing, and ask them what it is. Purpose is not to see how well they draw, but just to see if the kid can express themselves orally in English. May be some singing and playing game.
Key is still English. So training up your kid with an outgoing personality and then English speaking.

Cat 2, CWB!! chance is very slim.... this year, I would say only a few Cat 2 student from Abacus have been admitted by CWB. Some Cat 2 student like my daughter and almost all Cat 2 classmate in her class have been admitted by other ESF school as SJS, KJS. To have offer from other ESF school is not a guarantee. Pls apply other IS as RC or DC or... as backup.
The interview is not so difficult as long as the kid is having good English level. No profilio is required. No testing or any difficult question will be asked in the interview, all they want to know is the English level of the kid and see if they are capable enough to communicate in English. That's all. No worry.
The only worry should be a chance of interview. As the no.# of the letter of interview will be same as available space. So most of us would say, there is more 99% chance to be admitted if you are invited for an interview.

This year because of Financial Tsunami, demand of IS shift, so demand of ESF is overwhelming. Don't want to repeat, try look at our older posts. So demand of CWBS is even higher (for Cat 1) as there are a lot of foreigners in Sai Kung & CWB.
Anyway hope next year will be different, but I think this year at least ESF has tried very hard to put all Abacus student into all ESF primiary school. And most of all, KJS & SJS are good schools too, just kids'transportation may be a headache to parents though.

Are your girl studying in Abacus already?
For ESF school, you need to apply via ESF Center, and they will put you in the list of your school according to placement zone. So when you are in Abacus, so should be Sai Kung, TKO or CWB and a bit of Nam Tim. So it will be CWBS. You can't choose KJS or SJS unless you move to live there.
Also you can apply to RC / DC and they have not limit on placement zone, but they are PIS under ESF.

Yes. U should "prepare" some residental proof (e.g. utlity bill, bank statement" earlier if u decide to "choose" your favorite school.

This is for 2009/10 admission. They will update application period / procedures for 2010/11.

I think you can get an "address proof" easily, but I think the real case is if you apply to an ESF that is not near your house, then bear in mind you will need to figure out the daily transportation of your kids, as most ESF are not close to MTR station, and may need your helper to bring them to school if you kids are too small.

Do you have any suggestion I can apply (IS Primary) for spare?
I don't have any idea, i just will apply RCHK and CWB. But I know this is not enough, could you please let me know which one is better or not too expensive (I think estimate HKD6000-7000)?? many thanks

You can also try ICS, CIS, HKIS, ISF, GSIS..... if money is not your concern.
RCHK - school fee $6xxx
ESF CWBS - school fee $5xxx
They are both under ESF, I will say quality is quite similar. I don't want to go further as you may see there are some RC parents which think they are the only one who can talk about RC, and they think no matter what I said, is badmouthing RCHK..... sigh......

Sorry for my interrupt, as I'm a gossip:
1. Don't ask popolung comments on RC further. She is not a RC parent (Instead, She will be a CWB parent, keep asking her about CWB!) Some RC parents do not like outsiders "talk 3 and talk 4";
2. I will be an RC parent. I will not comment until I'm a RC parent. hor hor;
3. Type "RC" to search this forum. U will find a lot of funny discussion here;
4. I have limited budget, too. That's why I only applied normal ESF(central application)/RC/DC.
I'm not saying that other IS are no good but most of them are beyond my ability to afford (I have 2 children);
5. As an Abacus parent, no need to worry too much;
6. I don't like RC coz it is too far away from my home (nobody can challenge me!). So, I'm thinking of moving to Shatin or MOS 2 years later.

I said many times, I think RC is as good as other ESF School. Just some "real" RC parents don't like people to "speak 3 tell 4" about RC as oooray said.....

be relaxed. everybody made and will make mistakes. BK is just a place for blowing water.
in the world of internet, many people provide info and not every piece is 100% (like wikipedia, always being criticized contain false information but still many people look for info there).
maybe u are very objective in posting viewpoint here, u cannot deny some insider parents here are really sensitive (or too serious) to comment from outsiders.
Instead of criticizing, why not share more correct insider information about the school for other parents? Thats one of the main purpose parents come here! looking for information about different schools.
Of course, 100% wrong information should be criticized.

People make mistake, and I do. So I will apologize if you can point out my mistake, with proof. Saying people " Pain in the ???" will not help. Other will just look down you and think what kind of school parents it is. I will apologize if I have to, will you?
