My kid is attending PN, out of the 3 hours class each day, 30 minutes is in English. I know it will be increased to 45 minutes in K1 and all are taught by westerners. The language balance is OK. However, I do not know if they will teach phonics in KG..........but I don't think it is important as you can easily find phonic class in the market....

As many parents are fancy of mandarine education mixed with some English....so the competition is quite keen for entering this school (KCS), I will say very keen with AM class, but less keen for PM class. More keen with PN and less keen with KG as KG has opened more classes than PN.

For PN AM class, I will say it is very difficult to secure a AM class if you have no connection, like alumni, with this school if you are not a Chinese. My impression is that they will have favourism with the foreigners or the mixed students. There are many non-chinese in my kid's PN class. I think this is to help KCS to creat a multi-national image. The non-chinese to Chinese ratio in the PN class is even much higher than Victoria......so, very multi-national ga in PN (this may not be the case in KG as KG has the international stream).

Based on my observation, if you can get into PN of KCS, you will have a higher chance of admission to KG even though the school claims no guanrantee of KG place for PN students.

As far as I know, the school bus is operated by the school directly, not outsourced. You can check the school's website for the routes.

Ohs....I am "big headed"....Wendy, to me, there are not too many 親子activities in PN, since Sept, only a X'mas party and the KCS big big pinic (which I have missed) so far. Is this almost the same in KG? I am expecting more involvement in school activities with my child though I am a working woman.

Don't worry, K1 有兩次親子旅行(半個學期1次),今年去香港公園+動植物公園,再有1次大旅行係家長會辦.每個月有園藝會,家長可以參觀.

下星期,學校會有親子體操表演,好期待佢地的表演.

school bus serves HK side only, and I have checked with 保母車, they only got line from Kwun Tong to school, but not from other locations in KLN side.
唉, I need to think about ther methods la.....

If cannot find a school bus, by bus route #118 and #112 or by MTR loh.....the best way maybe your whole family move to HK Island. If I were living in Mongkok, I don't think I will apply KCS loh as I personally do not want my kid to travel such a long way to school.

there seems to be more in KG than PN. You will have more chance in these 3 years according to my previous experience.

a bit headache for my daughter now. she also has an offer from HKUGA primary school. Two very different teaching style. But I will incline to go for HKUGA as it has secondary section ...... But she likes KCS primary.

Of course, all children will like their mother school.....I think it is a wise decision to choose HKUGA primary school also if it has a through-train to secondary school. My sister-in-law, who is a alumni of St Paul Co-ed did not apply for St Paul, but has chosen KCS primary school for her daughter as she wants her to learn Mandarin for longer time.

I think it is a must for the parents or his/her representatives to go to this Orientation Day....So, most parents will go. For last year's PN orientation day, my husband (I had to go to work) went and told me it was poorly organised. He even thought of forefeiting the place of KCS after the orientation day as it gave him a very bad impression of the school administration. Hope the KG section is better this year.

The school will give a talk to the parents in the orientation day.  And the orientation is for parents, not children, so, don't bring your kid.  Last year (PN), because the orientation is not properly orgnaised, my husband and many parents ended up missed the talk.
Books - must buy from outside.  KCS just gives you a booklist.
School uniform - you can buy from the school supplier on the orientation day or from outside.  Based on my experience, outside suppliers in North Point are cheaper than the one chosen by school.  But as you are Kowloon people, may not be familiar with HK side, so, to save the time cost, suggest you buy from the supplier chosen by school.
School fee - Yes, pay on the orientation day
School bag - buy from the school canteen

Is the child (your sisiter-in-law)with KCS now? What is her comment? Seems like it is not a bad idea to put kids in a strict environment to start off as this will give them a good foundation.

GIPW, so far, my sister-in-law is satisfied with KCS primary school.  No negative comment ever received and she still highly recommends KCS KG and Primary school to me.........

For me, it is still too early for me to think about primary school.  But given HKUGA as the choice?  I think I'll choose HKUGA.

But based on my observation of my sister-in-law's daughter, it seems her English is not that good......I doubt if it is NET teaching English in KCS primary school (I haven't asked her).  It seems my sister-in-law does not bother too much about this as she plan to send her daugther overseas in secondary school.

Uniform sold outside not only a little bit cheaper and you can get the uniform upon paying cash. For the school supplier, you pay the $$$ and get the uniform some time later. Troublesom in my opinion. But if you don't know any outside suppliers selling KCS uniform, of course, choose the school supplier lah.

I have bought a winter red jacket from one of the suppliers outside...... the colour came out onto my hand......so, throw away after wearing for one time (sorry, I can't remember the name of the shop now). Then, my in-law helped me to buy from another supplier, the colur did not come out, but the quality of the cloth is very rough, even I do not want to put onto my body......I wish there is a shop selling good quality school jacket, I don't mind paying more.

Just return from a trip from beijing. most of the people think the english might not be able to compete with the local famous school. I know one girl who got into DGS F1 (graduated from KCS) her chinese standard is very good but need to catch up in with their English standard.

GIPW, it is a pity that I cannot go to the parents's day tomorrow as I have to go to work......Long week ah.....hate jobs that need people to work for half day on Sat.

In case you miss the call of the teacher during your trip to BJ, I would like to let you know that the teacher told me all the orientation activities have been cancelled. What we need to do on Sat is just go to the classroom for registration only....so, should finish very quick.
