My twin boys are about 15 months now. I let them learn phonics , Letterland, at playgroup when they were 12 months. They can speak out "a", "e", "h" only.

Learning phonics may take different forms and it to a large extent depends on the age of the kids.  For example, some attend playgroups and some learn it at home setting, while most I think learn in kindergartens these days.

In our case, our kid could recognise the 26 letters and even words fairly early.  Before he was 2, he could read out the following words shown at the outdoor playground (something like "This equipment is designed for children aged 5 - 12 years.  Adult supervision is recommended").

We bought him a set of phonics VCDs and let him watch them on a 15 to 20 mins duration per day basis even before he could walk.

Now at 3.5 years, he is reading Oxford xxx Tree readers (up to Stage 8 or 9 as long as it interests him).  For unfamiliar words, he would try to pronounce them by applying his phonics skills.

So, I think starting early may be good for some kids, as long as it won't cost you a lot.

我覺得不要太早學, 讀小一開始可以學, 因我囝囝在 k2學了1年多至k3, 但上到小學要默時完全用唔倒, 只好再學, 現在學才能夠吸收

As far as I know, most kindergartens in Hong Kong have already provided their students with phonics training during K2. I think it will be little bit late to let your kids learn phonics after K3 as the traditional primary school P1 student should be proficient in it.

I guess it should be around 4 years old as the kindergartens teach children phonics in K2-3.

你地係咁講緊d好有system嘅phonics?

我自己隨便用字母咭拼吓讀吓, 玩過幾次~ 有時見到d陌生字又講d同音節而佢又識嘅字..
e+阿仔見到d未見過嘅字都會自己拼, 試吓讀, 超過一半機會係啱嘅~
咁算唔算教咗phonics?
