From what I know, if you are thinking about transferring your kid to say CIS, GSIS or ESF, then SIS students on average stand a better chance of getting in than students from any other schools (IS or local) in HK.
I do not think so.
It only proves that many parents at SIS believe that CIS, GSIS and ESF are better than SIS, and they took the initiative to apply to transfer.
IF SIS is really that fantastic, why would they even consider leaving at all?
For instance, I seldom hear people transfer from HKIS to ESF, or CANIS to GSIS. These are good schools already and they do not need to consider applying. Even if there are such cases, they are not common. There are therefore very few new students from HKIS or CANIS to ESF or GSIS. But it does not mean they do not have chance or these are schools not as good as SIS.

SIS' students choose other secondary schools for many reasons. One of which I believe is for their proven record to well-known universities, while SIS' secondary department is only recently set up and still takes time to establish.
I don't think anybody here said SIS is fantastic, but it definately gives a solid foundation. There are not many schools around that offer a consistently balanced and vigorous education on English, Mandarin, Maths and Science. Their all round strengths is probably the reason why SIS' students are at a comparatively better position to get into schools like HKIS, GSIS, CIS and ESF.

Do not get it.
You mean ESF, HKIS, GSIS, CIS are not better than SIS?
If they are not as good, there is no point transferring from SIS to these schools.
If they are better, then why not go directly to these schools.

Better than WHICH schools?
Local schools?
Other international schools? Which ones?
My point is still, if your ultimate target is HKIS, GSIS, CIS, ESF, when not enter these schools from day one?

It may well be that SIS + ESF/HKIS/GSIS/CIS = something even better.

Neither Thankful nor JJsMama meant to imply that SIS is better than the other schools.
The reason why many SIS students move to other secondary schools is because their secondary section only comes into operation recently and many parents consider it too new (with no track record for consideration).
Since the other IS mentioned here all have their own long established secondary schools, it is not surprising that their students tend to stay.
In future, once SIS's secondary school has built up a track record, there may be fewer movement away - but a track record will take many years to establish.
As to why go to SIS in the first place, one good reason springs to my mind is that perhaps a stronger foundation in Chinese for their kids is important to some parents.

I think you have taken the wrong end of the stick and jumped the gun a little too fast. I was offering a possible reason of why some parents prefer to move their kids to other schools, and why SIS children may have a better chance of being accepted by the other IS.
Why not HKIS, GSIS, and ESF right from the start? The obvious reason is the lack of a strong Mandarin component which many parents feel is a pre-requisite, at least for the primary years.
