This is the letter you referred to I believed:

It said: " It was our pleasure to confirm the good news for parents of 2005 born children [who would be due to start kindergarten as a K2 student]... Those children will have priority for an interview in either an ESF Foundation Primary School, or an ESF Private Independent College. The rule requiring two terms attendance in kindergarten before the January 2010 interviews for Year One will be waived for such children."
"priority for an interview" is not equal to "guarantee for an interview". For example if you are in Cat 2, you will have an priority over those students who are Cat 2 but not studying in ESF Kinder or do not have siblings in ESF. But you priority will be lower than those in Cat 1.
For this year, as there are some many Cat 1 waiting for interview in ESF Primary school, then the chances for interviewing Cat 2 students became very slim. I will suggest if you take ESF WKS Kinder, you should apply to both normal ESF and RC at the same time in coming K2 term, as RC will interview most of the kids in both Category, and ESF kinder students do have priority in interviews (but not admission as it will still depend on your kid's capability)

If not school bus, I suggest you ask helper to take your kid on train, but I understand is very tough...

from www.mtr.com.hk, travelling time from Sheung Shui to WKS is only 48mins. (from Tsuen Wan to Heng On takes 55 mins!).
If I were u, I would have left this job to helper and let her to wait for 3 hours in WKS then go home.
Taxi (20% OFF Party) is too risky to travel daily for such long distance connected by highways.

Yes, I agree. If you are not driving, then ask your helper to take MTR with your kid. Taxi is too expensive and dangerous. And ask your helper to wait there for 3 hours.....

I also suggest your helper to take your kid from HOME to MOS by MTR.
My example: Now MY girl is studying at Tsing Yi and I live at MOS. MY helper takes her to school by MTR and wait for 3 hours. Two hours transport time is OK for Kid. It is more safe to take MTR. My husband and I also take some leave to share the duty. It is just less than 180 school days per year.
Luckily, my girl will transfer to WKS kinder for K2. She can go to school within 30 minutes.
For your information, ESF kinder is good. My girl learns a lot. Her English level is improving.
Besides, I suggest you choose the PM session, which is much benefit for the long travel students.

Yes, PM session is a good suggestion, though a lot parent don't like PM session as they think their babies need afternoon sleep or other classes. But it will avoid heavy traffic in the rush hour of morning time, if finally you really need to travel all the way to ESF WKS.

其實佢而家係九龍塘劍鳴返緊n1,她車程都有返咁上下...
我都有考慮過HELPER帶佢返學, 但日等3小時我真係唔知佢係度做咩好....同埋雖然家人無多一位小朋友, 但都多野比佢做。來來回回又好費時....
唉...最好有校巴啦.......
我有想過放棄ESF, 因為其實我估她可能日後會先試下考直資，無心儀的先入返ESF等學校。但始終我想英文好重要.... 想係K1讀一年打好個語言基礎。K2或K3會轉出來。你地又點睇呢??
又有無人住上水粉嶺呢??

How do you get to Kln Tong kinder now? They have school bus?
I think it is hard for WKS kinder to have school bus serving outside Shatin, but I guess as this is the first year of ESK WKS, I think they should be flexible in some way. Call them when the principal is on board, and good luck.

I have quite a lot of experiences in dealing with such dilemma. I suggest u can either:
1. Move closer to WKS (not worthy for merely 2 years kindergarten, but worthy to do that if SJS/RC will be your next target) {FYI, i moved a few times in the past 5 years};
2. Let your helper to wait for 3 hours. It is the ulitmate / feasible option; Going by taxi with other children is good to have but it does not solve the problem.
Are u dare to leave your child alone to other parents/helper (or vice versa) on a taxi which is flying at >100km per hour? even if he/she is reliable but is busy in looking after his/her own child inside a taxi? [if the accompanied child is on leave, your helper has to accompany with your child by train/taxi and she has to wait for 3 hours; [or when the accompanied child off; u off! it does not sound reasonable]
Touchwood to say, just in case your child does not feel very well during the school hour and you are told to take him/her home, how can you do that without a helper? (even if your office is close to WKS, it is really annoying for you to do that)
I think every kindergarten parents should experience such situation in children's 2 year school life in a KG.
My own comment is forgetting some household work. Your child's safety and Endless housework, which one is more important?
Think in another way, you have let her chat chat chat for 3 hours and she is expected to try her best to finish the work she is supposed to do in the day time...
Of course, you can always decide to give up the offer if you have better options.
Last but not least, if u decide to study K1 in ESF and go back to local kinder at K2 (sorry, no K3 in ESF)...I have no idea...if I were u, I would have stayed in local kinda and spent those extra $$$ on extra English courses/Social skill courses (many parents are doing this way). I guess u will "feel" more comfortable as a preparation for 直資.
From my personal experience, my child did not show very good English after studying K1 in IS (maybe other children are smart enough to be a good english speaker...I don't know...).

I have checked the homepage of RCHK. The bus service of RCHK covers almost everywhere in HK. It takes less than 1 hr for those living in Sheung Shui to RCHK (which is just one station from WKS). You can also take the bus service even if you are living in HK Island (but they charge you +7,000 per semster). So I am optimistic about the availability of bus service, if 45 minutes travelling time is acceptable to you.

But the bus travel time may not be suitable for primary school (8:10AM-2:30PM) compare to kinder (9am-12pm or 1pm-4pm). Also you are mixing up your baby with big boys & girls. And most important, who is going to bring her down in RCHK and take her to WKS? Or pay one more seat for your helper?

I sometimes see school buses in ESF TY in the morning session...most of them are "3 or 4 kittens".
The school gate opens on time (8:30am) and the children needs to stay on the school bus and then to be escorted by the school bus auntie at 8:30am (TY parents, Please correct me if i was wrong!)
If WKS runs in the same way, u have no chance to ask any other school bus companies to do that unless if u have someone accompanies.
(In fact, if u have someone accompanies, u don't need a school bus!)

It's the same in Abacus and the kids have to wait for 5 - 10 mins before all school buses are back then teachers will come out to pick up all of them.
And the RC school bus will drop kid at RC, not WKS, which is still two MTR (MOS line) stations away...
Bring out this concern to WKS kinder, I think it may be "negotiable" since this is their first year, just try. Do you know who is the school bus operators now?

different ESF kinda have different operators. Koon Chung is taking care RC...
Just wild guess, they have a big chance to get the tendor for WKS as long as they have been serving RC.

Maybe true. But RC has 1-2K students as their potential customer, vs WKS will only have 1-200 students, and the turnaround time for the bus will need to count. Since primary school operate earlier so they need to pick those primary kids then kinder one, so may not have enough time to do that all over HK.
Some Abacus school bus is taking both CWBS and Abacus students as they only take care of Sali Kung / CWB / TKO area only.
Hope ESF can make some arrangement for those kid in WKS la.

其實我之前已經打算留位, 諗住點都留左先, .... 寄票中連埋一封信番去, 信內提及我要求校巴... 因為成份確認信都無一個位表示我地需要校巴服務與否。
同埋我係tour時，當日強烈地問及負責人，我需要校巴，如果到時無咁點.... 佢話可以refund...
但在確認位後及信件寄出後，她最後再用e-mail回覆我... 當中態度好像不願再討論，在解釋現階段無人可以答應一定有校巴(我知道及明白),只可以幫我keep住份form先...到有明確picture時才話我知。仲話而家仍有好多位tim....唔趕住confrim....所以我都唔知我算唔算有留位囉... 我只知佢唔會過我支票住....不過已經係2月的事... 不再有其他消息...
我都唔知佢而家的進度係點.... 麻煩2位媽媽... 你地如果知道校長幾時到....又或有什麼新消息... 話我知啦....thanks

The new principal will on board by end of April. So I guess you can have a better idea what is going on after April, and I will suggest you "feed" her some ideas about what the WKS parents are thinking and what you really need. And she was the Head of Early Childhood at the Australian International School from 2005 - 2007 so should have understanding about HK education pretty well.

Just curious to ask : according to WKS website, the occupation permitis due on May. To whom u can put pressure? The government or thedeveloper?
Iguess once the premise has been handovered to WKS, they will be doingthe decoration in full speed...for 200 vacancies, it is talking about>HK$10 million tuition fee per annum.
Most probably, the schoolwill be an "isolated island" at the earliest beginning since theapartments above will remain empty until they are sellable; and noadjacent facilities may be seen (e.g. convenient store).

where is the kinder?
Aiya this is the whole Lake Silver site that has not finished, then I have some doubt about it. The building frame is still there, it will take another 6 months to finish the interior at least for the whole building..... so will the kinder open earlier than Lake Silver itself, depends on where is the kinder, outside or inside? will need to check with ESF if they have any fallback plan once the kinder cannot be hand over on time, I think even they can get it on May or Jun, ESF still have to decorate itself, so hope it can finish soon. Again good luck!

just saw this in ESF Newsletter for May, may be not a good news.... parents should call ESF and ask if everything is on schedule, including the campus:
"In the last issue of ESF News we announced the appointment of Marilyn Clark as Principal of the new ESF International Kindergarten in Wu Kai Sha. Unfortunately, Marilyn has had to withdraw for family reasons and we are now re-advertising the position."

don't be too worry. I am confident with ESF management that everything will be on schedule, as cloning a new kindergarten with reference of 3 already running smoothly is not a big problem[ a few chaos at the earliest beginning may be inevitable]. In return, u are paying the same school fee for 100% brand new facilities. Think positive, right?

If they have summer course you should take your kid to go as your kid can get familiar with the WKS. But where is the summer course? I wonder they are still under decoration by that time?
And for school uniform:
School Uniforms are available for sale at The Aston Wilson Uniform Shop, which is located on the ground floor. The shop stocks a full range of summer and winter uniforms for girls and boys in all sizes. It is open at the following times:
Monday: 8:15am - 11:15am
Wednesday: 1:30pm - 4:30pm
Thursday: Closed

Yes, school Bag, library book bag, hat can buy from that shop. No special rules for shoes, except no Crocs (but still some kids wear Crocs....)

You can buy summer uniform first, no hurry as you kid will grow bigger very fast in this few years.
I have joined Abacus summer course last year, a lot of fun, play & sing in English. But they won't have it this year as Abacus will have big renovation this year. I wonder if WKS will have summer course as even the campus is not ready until August. anyway you can call and see if they have other place like TY that offer summer course, if you don't mind it is a bit too far away.

You can call the Uniform shop and ask how long you need to order the uniform (normally they have ex-stock), then you can go to order anytime, so no hurry. Wait for the school information first la.

You are welcome, hope you will enjoy ESF Kinder. Although you won't need to pay for the few days of Aug, you will also find that say in this Apr after Easter and the term break, there is only 1 week to go to school in April, but you have to pay for full. So anyway you will have to pay for 10 months out of 12 months every year.
Hope they can finish the decoration earlier in WKS so the new school can have enough time to "breath" before the kids move in, just like when you buy a new house with new furnitures. When you are able to talk to the new principal, remind her about this.
And I heard ESF have located a new principal for WKS to replace Marilyn Clark who can't come to HK, but i can't confirm and I don't want other BK moms to say I spread whatever rumor, so please call ESF to confirm this next week.

Go to the uniform shop and they can tell you what you need to buy. And I suggest you only buy what you need in summer first as kid grow so fast so no need to buy any winter stuff first! :loveliness:
